i LOVE oatmeal, but am not big on sweets. so my secret tends to be pretty darn simple: cinnamon, just sprinkle, mix, and sprinkle on top. have a little milk moat and you're all set!
when i was younger, my mum would make me a big bowl o' regular oatmeal and i'd make little milk waterways and sail my raisins in them...
oh *sigh* when things were that simple... ;)

Nice list!
But, for me, I just usually grab a flavored one!

Love the list!! Thanks for posting it.
Definitely endless possibilities!!
I wonder how oatmeal would taste... with non-sugary things... ie: cucumber, or even carrots.... haha my weird ideas!
(just need ideas to incorporate those veggies into my diet!)

great list... another suggestion is just sprinkle with salt. It's deilsh.
peanut butter? really? does it get sort of melty and delish? sounds interesting and i just may have to try it this morning! but i won't say i'm not a bit wary
I never thought it would happen, but I'm addicted to oatmeal now. I've only put in bananas, apples, blueberries, and mango (all with cinnamon) but your ideas sound insanely good. Tagging this. :)
c_jamie, I love savory oatmeal. Once a week or so I'll make a casserole with oatmeal, chopped veggies, savory seasonings (like garlic powder, Mrs. Dash, etc.), and parmesan cheese, baked in the oven. It's total comfort food. Oatmeal is a grain, just like rice or bulgur. For some reason it's just got this "breakfast" stigma attached to it.
same here. oatmeal is my comfort food. and i find the best time to have it is at night... weird, no?
i also posted in the recipes section- "Not-So-Sinful Brownies" with oatmeal. About 100something cals/ square. Not bad I think!

Great list! I'll add more later as I lvoe oatmeal and my cheesecake oatmeal isnt there (low fat cream cheese, dash of lemon, splenda, wheat germ)
wooow.
this is no joke. haha you guys really don't fool around!
i've tried maybe five or six of those? but let me suggest another. i've been doing this since i was a toddler when my mom would feed it to me; melted chocolate chips.
my mom is german so of course she found a way to sneak chocolate into every dish. :) she says her grandma would put cocoa powder in it when she was little too.

jessinca - I love that you call it a "milk moat"!!

haha, thanks, believe it or not i don't try to be this cheesy and literal, it's just my blessing/curse.
picklepug, i totally get what you're saying about the europeans and chocolate- esp. for breakfast. although my family is scandinavian (and therefore EVERYTHING tastes better with garlic and dill, which i happen to believe adamantly!) we frequent this 'german village' center which has all sorts of european shops/eateries- the best place to get bloodtongue. it's amazing the ways that they find to incorporate chocolate into everything. but we've gotta remember, they often linger over/enjoy their food so it takes longer to eat and they feel more satisfied. also, europeans tend to walk more. if that's all it takes to justify chocolate in my oatmeal then i'm sold!

I never thought that I would end up addicted to oatmeal, but I AM!! I rarely go a day without it, it is so warm and filling!! I do not, however, like sweet foods so I put a sprinkle of Molly McButter in it with some salt and pepper...YUM!!!!!
This morning, a breakfast accident became a breakfast miracle... I was half asleep and put a pack of instant cinnamon oatmeal in a bowl with blackberries and blueberries (which I would normally add after microwaving), and not enough water. I microwaved, and when it came out it was a sticky pie-like substance- like blueberry/blackberry crisp. I'm gonna do it on purpose tomorrow.
I haven't had oatmeal in the longest time but have been thinking about trying:
PB2 + baking cocoa + sweetener (or maybe a diet swiss miss packet)
for a chocolatey-PB oatmeal. Has anyone tried this, or is anyone willing to give it a shot?

ratinhat88 -- thanks, that sounds delicious!! I didnt know there was actually a name for that meal! And it would probably work in the microwave too eh. So, I could basically use it as rice... very handy cause I dont have a rice cooker!
This should definitely be THE oatmeal thread!!
Haha a bunch of random oatmeal questions:
Do most people find oatmeal more filling than... say, cereal, toast, pancakes, etc?? How much do you guys usually eat each morning? Do you measure it?

yes. oatmeal MUCH more stick to your ribs goodness.
i eat it at night, actually, but had it this morning in a hurry for school with sliced nectarine, vanilla yogurt, and cinnamon.
nah- use the packages to make life easier, but sure, you can measure- remember it EXPANDS when cooked!!

Oh, Thank you - all of you! I already ate dinner, but this is still making me want to have some oatmeal right now. I'm tagging this thread for sure! I do use the packets mostly, so I can take it to work and eat at my desk. But I foresee a more adventuresome weekend breakfast coming soon.
