what are your favorite brands and flavors? and how do you like your oatmeal?

my favoritie the high fiber cinnamon swirl and the strawberries and cream by quaker.

kashi ones have impressive nutritional values with protein and fiber, but i find them to be a bit bland!

I'm a freak for oatmeal - I'm not going to lie. I could eat oatmeal for every meal of every day. Ohmygosh.

But, I like variety too. For a long time I always ate my oats the same way: cooked up on the stovetop with cinnamon and raisins.

It got boring.

Anyway, then I discovered chocolatecoveredkatie.com/chocolate-covered-r ecipes/all-things-oatmeal/

Seriously oh my GOD. Best oatmeal recipes EVER! It's a vegan blog too, but never fear if you're not a vegan - just use regular milk instead of soy milk etc. Of course.

But GO VISIT THAT SITE if you like the idea of Brownie Batter Oatmeal... Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oatmeal... Peaches-n-Cream Oatmeal... Snickerdoodle Oatmeal... and seriously, check out the comments in the endless combinations link. Fantastic inspiration right there! I've become way more creative with my oats now. For example, the other day I had Choc Chip Pumpkin Cheesecake Mousse Oatmeal for breakfast (I know it sounds super unhealthy but it was packed full of nutritional goodness and not a grain of sugar in sight), today I made my mum Blueberry Cheesecake Oatmeal and I ate Mocha Choc-a-Chip Oatmeal. Another fave of mine that I improvised is Carrot Cake Oatmeal.

I'm excited because tonight is my breakfast for dinner night (I do it once a week, yay!) Anyone care to guess what I'll be having? I just have to pick what KIND of oatmeal now! :D

Oh and, if you're interested in my own oatmeal recipes I'm posting them to my blog vegansixteen.blogspot.com very soon :)

I also love oatmeal It is my everyday breakfast.

It makes up 800 of my calories everyday.

In my oatmeal it is usually

1 cup cooked oats made from a Cup of Milk , with 2 tbsp of peanut butter, 1 Large banana chopped in it, with .25 cup of almonds.

I love oatmeal too and make it with all kinds of grains and sweeten it mostly with some stevia and dried or natural fruits.  I was curious to check out some of  these sugar free recipes but disappointed to find, in the few I checked, they all had one or more added sugars including:

Chocolate Chips (semi sweet are about 50% sugar)

Tsp's or Tbsp's of added sugars, powdered sugars etc.  (100% sugar)

Soy Milk (your regular soy milk is 25-30% calories from sugar)

Marshmallow topping (had to look that one up, never heard of it nearly 60% sugar)

Graham crackers ( about 25% sugar and the rest of the calories from white flour, basically the same thing as sugar to me)

I didn't add it up but I wouldn't be surprised if many of the recipes I checked were 25-35% processed sugar, hidden in other foods of course, in addition to the natural sugars in some of the fruits used.  Don't want to rain on your parade or anything but also don't want you fooled into thinking many of these recipes are "sugar free" when the sugars are hidden in some of the ingredients.

I eat old-fashioned oats you have to cook yourself. My standard is:

1/2 cup dry oatmeal

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup low fat milk

1 banana, sliced

a pinch of salt

a ton of cinnamon

I cook it until the banana and softened and begun to break apart and the oatmeal is creamy, then I top it with a spoonful of nut butter.

I also sometimes switch it up by using a chopped up peach instead and it tastes like peach crisp.

I LOVE oatmeal (plain too)! I eat old fashioned oats quite a few times throughout the week. I have not tried too much of a variety with the toppings/add ins yet, but here are a few ways I have enjoyed them so far:

1) 1/2c oatmeal, 1c water, 1/2 banana (or more) mashed & cooked in OR melted in the microwave and stirred in after, with either peanut butter cooked in or topped with just cinnamon and raisins

2) 1/2c oatmeal, 1c water, 1 peach (warmed in the microwave & chopped) then mix some yogurt (I use vanilla) in with the cooked oatmeal and top it with the peach chunks

3) 1/2c oatmeal, 1c water and then just top it with some blueberries and a generous scoop of almond butter

BTW, I second who-ever recommended Chocolate Covered Katie. I have browsed her website quite a few times now and I must say, she does have amazing oatmeal creations (aswell as other delicious looking recipes). Many of her recipes (and other oatmeal recipes) are high on my "to make" list.

is muesli the same as oatmeal? because i know most poeple have oatmeal warm right? i wouldnt know as im british and its american.

i was just wondering. is oatmeal the same as porridge?

Muesli is not oatmeal.  Porridge is much closer to oatmeal although I suspect there are many more ways to make oatmeal than porridge but I could be wrong...lol.  Porridge is usually made really wet too and oatmeal can be soupy or it can be rather dry depending on how you make it.
