Oatmeal Recipes

Quote  |  Reply
I've heard everyone talk about how great it is but I don't think I will like it. I like oatmeal cookies (sans raisins) but that has a completely different texture of oatmeal. So, I was wondering what everyone's favorite recipes were. I probably wouldn't like anything with fruit in it but feel free to list them so everyone else can see them. Thanks.

heh, really oatmeal and infact all hot cereal is one of the best foods you can eat. i find it hilaroius that simple peasent food ( porridge) is the healthiest.

i have a few serving ideas, they arnt exactly recipes.

i like to put flaxseed meal, maple syrup, bananas and chopped nuts or peanut butter in mine. i like cinnamon alot, and i usually make the oatmeal with at least half milk.

the tastiest way to eat oatmeal is some cinnamon, brown sugar, honey, etc. with a pat of butter on top.

I haven't tried it yet, but if you like pumpkin, I've read if you mix in a couple of spoonfuls of pumpkin, a little bit of brown sugar or sweetener, and some pumpkin pie spice, you have incredibly good pumpkin pie oatmeal.

I also second the maple syrup (there are good sugar free brands out there) and bananas.

I love oatmeal, and I've found that buying it at my local farmer's market is the most economical.  That led me to trying another whole grain cereal called seven grain.  That's got a bit more texture to it than oatmeal and my husband likes it better than oatmeal.  I also love to eat oat bran since it cooks up to be more like Malt-O-Meal.  Again, I get that at the farmer's market so it's not so expensive.  As far as recipes, I just cook with the basic instructions and add whatever fresh fruits are in season to my bowl.  Right now bananas and a few walnuts with a trickle of maple syrup is hitting the spot.
Totally listen to santonacci - oatmeal with pumpkin is. friggin'. awesome. I put in 1/2 cup canned pumpkin, some cinnamon, and a bit of pumpkin spice. You can also add some vanilla protein powder or chopped nuts, such as walnuts or cashews, but they aren't necessary. ;)

This site has a ton of recipes that I'm dying to try: http://www.mrbreakfast.com/subcategory.asp?ca tegoryid=4&subcategoryid=7

I like oatmeal with bananas, a bit of vanilla extract and a half a packet of Splenda.  My daughter likes it with honey and a little milk.

I third the pumpkin oatmeal. I usually use cook the oats on the stove and when it is almost done add 1/4 can pumpkin, some vanilla, and some cinnamon while it is still cooking. The oatmeal becomes thick and orange (tastes better then it sounds). Then once i transfer to a bowl I add 1 tsp. brown sugar, splenda, and pumpkin pie spice. Then i put in 1/4 cup of golean crunch just cause. Also, try cutting up an apple, sprinkle some cinnamon and microwave for about 1 minute 20 seconds until they are soft. Then add those to the oatmeal when it is almost done cooking.
I use the steel cut or Scottish oats, which I think have a better texture than the rolled oats {which remind me of paste}. It takes longer to cook but it is worth it. With the steel cut oats I soak them the night before. {add to boiling water, shut off heat and cover. the next morning it takes ten minutes to heat thru [less if you use the microwave}

I often use fresh fruit, honey, almond milk but I've also found adding some dried fruit {if large pieces chop it up} in the boiling water with the oatmeal is a great treat. The hot water plumps up the dried fruit making it soft and sweet and also flavores the oatmeal.

I love cinnamon and a tiny bit of honey with my oatmeal. I also love almond or soymilk {for extra sweetness use vanilla flavored, I personally get the unsweetened to cut down added sugars}.

I've also added a bit of no salt trail mix. I wasn't crazy about crunchy things in my oatmeal, but it tasted okay.

Walnuts are great, in oatmeal.  I've also added a teaspoon of hemp or flax oil to my oatmeal, if I know I'm running low on fats.

I've even had oatmeal for dinner more than a few times.

This may sound strange, but I have a friend at work who liikes to put peanut butter in hers.  Not sure how that tastes, but my brother used to add jelly to his when we were kids.

SO EASY

im addicted to oatmeal

cook like regular, then once its done, add vanilla soymilk, cinnamon, and splenda.  omg heaven.

Ingredients needed:

  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 1/3 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons milled flaxseed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Splenda Brown Sugar Blend
You just combine the milk and water in a small pot and cook over high heat until it boils. Meanwhile, combine the dry oats, cinnamon, flaxseed, and brown sugar; tossing to coat. Empty the dry oat mix into the boiling milk and water and pour in the vanilla extract. Continue to cook for a few minutes, or until done.
I make mine before hand with 2 tbsps of Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup and I put it in fridge overnight, it comes out tasting like pudding. I love pudding with sugar free maple syrup as well as smushed bannanas, cinnamon, and other assorted syrups & fruits.

I eat it plain or with some cinnamin tossed in.  I hate oatmeal but I eat it all the time.  I just don't care about how lousy it tastes anymore.  Same with whey shakes; just water & the protein powder.

One day I am going to write my own diet book, based on eating mostly crappy tasting food and occasionally eating something that tastes good, maybe twice a week.  This way you won't be overeating or snacking because all of your food sucks.  Some of you will say "nobody will want to stick to that."  But they will, solely because they can brag to their friends that they are actually sticking to the diet.

Instead of adding milk to my oatmeal, I like to make it with yogurt. I just cook about 1/3-1/2 a cup of oats with water (sometimes in the microwave if I'm lazy... actually that happens a lot..), then add a few spoonfuls of vanilla or fruit-flavoured yogurt and then a pinch of cinnamon if it's not sweet enough for my liking.

Works for me most mornings. :)
