Obama has not attended church since he won the election, how do you feel about that?

Quote  |  Reply

I saw the headline "No church after election".  It would appear that Obama attended church before the elections but, since walking away with the presidency, he has also walked away from church. The article states that The Obamas have refrained from public prayer for fear their large retinue would disturb the church service.

What are your comments on this?

Doesn't matter to me at all.

Oh Lordy,

Are you surprised given the microscope his current church as well as his priest went under?

Any Church that man chooses will be put under a microscope.

Moreover, a president's actions are nearly all public. Other presidents such as Reagan and George W. Bush had to give up going to church while president.

So... I have no comment on this but that I'm not surprised and I hope he finds a DC church he feels comfortable going to and sending his family to.

I don't go to church, so I don't really care.

But that seems like a ridiculous excuse to give. There are probably plenty of churches that would be honored to have him, disturbance or no.

HOPEFULLY he's just busy doing other things.

I don't care in the slightest.

In fact, I'd prefer we have a president who isn't religious at all, though I love Obama.  Laughing

And ... I think they're right.  The Obama family attending church would cause a spectacle.

Well, I'm guessing he has quite a lot on his plate right now.  I'm a firm believer that faith & beliefs do not need to be in a building to be strong.  So, it doesn't really matter.

i don't give a flying fig.

besides, of course it'd be pandemonium once he showed up. hell, i'd go to church if he were there! and if he kept going to the same church, every week? you know how dangerous that is?

i imagine he's pretty busy.  and from what i've heard, the correlation between church attendance and living as a good christian is pretty weak.

why don't you tell us what you think, misskady?

I haven't been to church since he was elected either.....

Good for him!

The religious practices of the Obamas is of no concern to me, but more importantly, it's none of my business.

I agree with yachtracer! I'd definitely prefer to have a President who isn't religious.  I think whatever he's doing instead of going to church is probably a better use of his time.

Umm.. not to deflate a bunch of ballooons here, but.. the fact is.. whether you prefer a president who is or isn't religious, you (collective) have elected a man who is religious and wants his children to go to a good church.

Ummm ... no balloons deflated here.

In 2 months, he will be president.  He can't attend a public church.  His family?  Maybe they can, with a huge Secret Service detail attending as well.  But he can't.  That's dangerous.

Well, obama probably is okay since there are enough of us praying for him to lead this country out of its current mess to make up for him not going to church.

I'm sure there are any number of pastors in the DC area that would be willing and honored to conduct a private weekly service for the Obamas and their friends and family.

The thing about church is, from what I remember, is that it's not just about the Sunday service.  I remember a lot of functions, fundraisers, and parties too.  Now, I'm sure Barack and Michelle will have no lack of involvement in that regard just with their new roles, and I'm guessing they would probably find some kind of similar outlet for their girls - but it wouldn't be the same as being a fully public member of a church.  However, I seriously doubt this is something they weren't already expecting.

i'm quite certain that Obama is going to burn in the firey pits of hell.

 Well ... duh.  Laughing

The excuse isn't all that thin. They have had to shut down an entire city block in Chicago where his current residence is. It sounds like logistics to me.

Church isn't the only place to worship, who says he isn't teaching his children at home and worshiping in private during these past few weeks. I'd say it would be a good thing for him to spend some quality time with his kids on Sunday morning, especially after the hectic schedule they have just had. How he worships or if he worships is his business.
