Well deserved.

LOL what? is this a joke?

Yep.  Just heard it in the early morning news.  Wonder what made him more deserving than, say, Hu Jia, a chinese dissident and democracy activist.  Strikes me as more of a "grand gesture" than anything else.  Meh.

The leader of a country that has actively fighting military wins a peace prize? Did I miss something?

Hmmm oh well.

he's trying to pull back, and is undoing a lot of damage caused by the previous administration -

closing guantanemo bay,

not installing more nuclear projects in Europe (that ALONE deserves the prize),

promoting diplomacy with what was previously known (childishly) as 'the axis of evil'.

etc.

There's a lot to be said for steering a course for peace, and I think this award is to applaud him (and I think those who elected him) for his efforts and to encourge him to continue.

I say it's well deserved.

edit: typo

um, i'm not so sure about this. sure he has good intentions and all but a nobel peace prize, i dont know.

I agree.  I'm not saying he isn't doing great things toward improving world peace, but as yet, not much as changed.  I think there are others out there that have spent years doing good works to try and ensure peace in various areas that would have been a bit more deserving.

In a couple of years, I could see this, but so early on, I'm not quite sure he was more deserving than others.

yeah i mean just respect for the others, i think maybe he should not accept it & tell them to give it to someone else.

not to mention i can see some people (certain fox news people) having a field day on this, which im not looking forward to hearing about. i think ill go bury my head in sand for awhile.

wow. kudos to obama.

People keep thinking that the Nobel is supposed for long service, but it's supposed to be for "the most influential worker for peace" in the past year - years of doing good work is simply not supposed to be a factor, only what you did last year. Which is why Kissinger got it, for example.

Drawing down the missile shield alone was worth a prize, along with the Cairo speech.

Personally, I can't wait to see the size of Glenn Becks' ulcer and see just how big of a childish temper tantrum Bill O'Reilly can throw over this to demonstrate yet again how they don't actually understand any of the subjects they make a living commenting on.

right. i am sooooo listening to rush today. hes getting really lispy, btw. haha

Oooh, yes, Rushbo, that contemptible overgrown man-child, Examplar of hypocrisy; agitating for life-with-no-parole for "drug-related offenses" while sending his housekeeper to score hillbilly heroin for him. And when that particular pigeon came home to roost, he couldn't plead "special circumstances" and "don't judge me by my own standards" fast enough.

Be interesting to see what exercise in hypocrisy he can come up with.

well you guys can watch those fox idiots if you want. its not even funny anymore, i'd rather go live with the polar bears and i hate the cold or being eaten alive.

It's not that cold here, and we don't usually have polar bears in the streets, you know :)

 Concur.

I don't mind Obama getting it, per se, there are others in the past that have done similar works and never gotten it for their past year of service.  The fact that they had more than one year of service even and still didn't was what I was poorly alluding to in my first post.

I'd be curious to see the criteria - like why Obama now and not certain others in the past.

well i suppose if you take the general use of the word influential, his name has been on just about everyone's lips. not sure if that really qualifies but... what do i know.

now if we can just get some more actual results for obama, i think its time he stops p---yfooting around with trying to bring together the 2 parties, and just start getting his plans & promises in some measurable action.

His pedestal gets higher and higher and what has he done exactly apart from talk the talk and walk the walk!

It a disgrace and insulting to those who have received it for what they have already done!

While I also question why it was given to Obama, I don't think Jimmy Carter or Nelson Mandela are picking up their medals and saying "Oh geez, this thing doesn't mean squat now...why in the world was I such a do-gooder...."

I'm guessing, and I am not American or live in the US, that he is promoting peace by ousting George W from the White House.

Actually the expression 'talk the talk and walk the walk' means that this person does a good job and does what they say they will do so I'm guessing you're a tad confused there, takin ginot account the rest of your comments.
