So I have been without a period for I think about 2 years now. I have recently made a huge step in getting over a phobia of needles (something that has made me stay away from doctors) so I'm going to try and set up an appointment asap. BUT! I was reading the posts here and it seems like this is only happening to those that need to gain weight! I'm quite obviously obese and I'm afraid that my ovaries have crapped out on me or something! I don't plan on having children naturally (I plan to adopt) but I would rather not have part of my body die without me knowing what the hell is going on!

Can anyone help me? Does anyone know anything about this?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much :D

I agree... you should really go see your doctor asap. It sounds like you're way overdue for a checkup, and that's really what you need.

yep checkup is in order- the gyno appointments are nowhere near as scary as everyone makes them out to be, no worries :-) there's a fair chance you won't even need needles. but if you do, here are some tips: don't watch, don't have the nurse tell you when or talk to you, just don't pay attention. read a magazine, look at a poster on the wall, anything to help distract you. I hope I helped!
Definitely have the checkup, but in the meantime you might want to read up on polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is associated with obesity and can cause missed periods.
This happened to me when I was between 170 and 200 lbs (I went without for about 6 months while losing weight) Turns out my fat intake was too low (and is in fact still too low mopst of the time and I still have a 2-3 month cycle with increased intake of fat). basically, yes, go see your doctor. if you go more than 6 months without you should get something that induces a period. and, you need to make sure it isnt something else altogether.
Obese women very often have irregular periods.  Fat contains estrogen and having too much extra estrogen in your body can make your period messed up, just like having too little can.

Sometimes an obese woman will continue to have her period, but is not ovulating (because of the estrogen imbalance).  You can find out if you're ovulating by taking your first morning temperature throughout your cycle. If you have a spike of .4 to 1.0 degree, you probably ovulated.  But if you haven't been having a period for a long time, then you're definitely not ovulating.

It's definitely important to have your regular annual checkups, so I hope you'll get that appointment right away...

:)

i definately agree with everyone that you should see a doctor asap....

and one *possible* condition you could be suffering from is PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)--i have it (according to my doc) and a common symptom is very infrequent periods, occuring mostly in overweight women...but i'm no doctor---see a professional!!

 Best of Luck!

It sounds like you have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) - you need to see your OBG as soon as possible.
Thanks so much for your help everyone! I really appreciate it! I looked up PCOS I do match with a majority of the symptoms =/! I'm going to make an appt. first thing tomorrow morning (I have work during office hourse today) and hopefully we'll get this thing figured out! Has anyone else gone through this, or something like this? I'm pretty nervous about the whole deal!
Don't let it stress you out. Even if it is PCOS (and that's not guaranteed), it's a condition that is well-studied and very treatable.

See your doctor, and don't be nervous! :)
oohhh thank you so much! That has helped to reassure me <3!!!
