Obsessed with eating

Quote  |  Reply
I have been pretty good tracking my calories, and trying to eat the right things, however, sometimes I feel bored and want to eat more, even if I?m not hungry.  Does anyone have any tips on not thinking about food?  I feel like I am obsessed with eating.

i always allow caolries in my day for not hungry eating. a snack bag of 100 calorie popcorn is good for that because it lasts a while and isn't that high in cals.
But I'm thinking about food when I'm not even hungry, just bored.  How do I get my mind to change?
Go exercise, go running. It will take your mind off food, and you prob won't want to eat after running. Also, chicken broth, water, fat free hot choc, or apple cider are all great things to def. fill you up. Diet soda is good too, but aspartame is bad, so try not to drink more than one a day. Try sugar free mints, or gum also.

This is actually one of my biggest problems.  Especially at night.  The kids are in bed, dishes done, and my husband and I sit to down either watch TV or read the paper and I want food.  The first two nights I just went to bed but going to bed at 8PM got old real fast.  Last night I got out the sewing basket and fixed a few items that needed heming, etc.  I have no idea what I am going to do tonight.  But I guess that is the answer to your question. I just try to keep busy and hope it passes.
also fruit has lots of fiber to keep you full. After I eat an apple, pear, or some grapes I usually am good to go for a while.

I too have a problem like this. My fix has been gum. It sounds simple, but it works for me.

As for the obsessive mindset, I don't have good advice because I feel the same way. But it is nice to know there are other people out there. :)
When I'm bored and I know I can't eat anymore I usually have a diet soft drink or a cup of tea with a little sweetner.

Somehow the sweetness gets rid of my craving... somewhat.
lorilie, I was the classic example of what you describe --

I came upon my cure quite accidentally.  Now, I only think about food when it's time to start preparing a meal.

I believe the cure is satiety.  Being physically full (engorged is the technical term, but it sounds to vulgar) is important, but satiety is the psychological equivalent of being full -- it literally means, enough, I am satisfied.

the particular combination of foods and volume of foods that I eat is what has produced satiety -- lots of whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, low-fat dairy, and the occasional meat -- at the end of my meal, I am satisfied,  I do not "want" more food, and I don't think about food again until it's time to start prep for the next meal.

Gone are the cravings.  Gone is the mindless eating.  Gone is the constant thinking about food.

I think everyone can find their satiety level --
Are you hungry or thinking about food? Maybe I'm crazy, because when I'm food obsessed, I'll pull out my stack of Cooking Light or Eating Well magazines and plan out something fun, different, and calorie conscious. I've been know to plan my week's menus while doing this - which puts me in great shape (pun unintended). And since I can't eat and flip pages while writing a shopping list, it works for me.
i'm obsessed with food too! I watch the food network. I know you would think its bad but for some reason watching it helps lol.
I haven't found the 1005 answer for me, but I have found the Yogi Tea "Fasting" works very well for me most of the time... it has a lightly sweet taaste (kinda like red licorice) that takes the edge off of any sweet craving I have (which they are always sweet cravings with me) and the liquid makes me feel full :)

now to find something to keep me from hitting the junk food that makes its way into my house from time to time...
Dear Lorilie,

I think you're obsessed because you're depriving yourself too much, of something.  EAT IT.  But -- eat it today ONLY, count it toward your weekly calorie intake, be sure to ENJOY and SAVOUR it -- and then?  Then be happy you are still losing weight without depriving yourself! YAY!   ;-D

Lately ive been making this one wrap, and it seriously keeps me SO full you have no idea lol

its a low carb whole wheat tortilla wrap.. like 80 calories

i take 3 slices of smoked turkey breast ... i believe 45 calories

then i take some lettuce.. and 8 almonds and scatter them throughout the wrap so when i bite i usually get 1 in there haha.. idk how many calories that is but not that much.

and thats it.. its sooooo good. sooooo filling. and not many calories at all for a meal that keeps you full for literally hours
