OCD affecting eating habits?

Quote  |  Reply

I've had OCD since I was 11 or 12. It's fairly bad. I never thought it affected my eating habits until recently. I started my diet and I notice I take things to extremes. I can't get away from it....even when I eat!! I was wondering if there were any other OCD sufferers, and if so, do you think it affects your diet?

I have had pretty severe OCD since I was about 11 too, and I feel that it has both helped and hurt me in terms of weight loss(Besides the fact that after I suddenly went off Prozac I gained 60lbs in 6 months! But that's another story...). I get pretty stange about numbers mostly, so this whole calorie-counting thing is just adding fuel to my fire-- but it certainly does keep me on track, as I have become rather compulsive about knowing precisely how many calories are in the 1/6th of a brownie I just ate, etc. On the other hand, I can't stand being on a number of calories that isn't rounded-- it drives me nuts! :) For example, if I am up to 730 calories for the day, I must immediately round it off with something that is exactly 70 cals in order to make it a round 800, even if I'm not hungry.
i dont have severe ocd but i do have it, and yes it has affected my diet. and like ceyx said, it can be both good and bad. one one hand, it really keeps me disciplined with my diet! it also distracts me a little from being obsessive/compulsive about other things. but also like ceyx said, it really fuels the disorder.
