Get off your butt - tip?

Quote  |  Reply

I am trying to get back on track after my daughters and my birthdays. They are one day apart. One of us turned 8 the other 40  something!

How do you get back into the swing of exercise and eating right?  I guess I made the first step by coming back to calorie count. I just can't seam to make the next step to exercise.  All those going out celebrations have taken me back 5 pounds. I feel positive and great - I know I would be even better if I could get moving!

Does anyone have a "Get off your butt and exercise" tip?

It's really hard to get back to exercise after being away from it for a bit. Try starting small.....a 15 minute walk 3 times per week or what ever you can fit in.

I find that when I'm in that situation, and I frequently am, fitting exercise into an already busy schedule can seem very overwhelming, I start small.....

Hope this helps

I am in the same boat...I just turn 46 and believe me is hard to start doing excersise after been inactive for so long...I started yesterday with few excersises (jumping jack, sit up, wallking, and taking the stair instead of the elevator.  I kind of sore but I have to keep going...

I agree with the other posts.  Start off small, and work your way up.

I have been following the 12 week exercise plan on this website.  I started off walking for 20 minutes three days a week, and after 5 weeks, I'm up to 40 minutes four days a week plus two days of strength training.

Also, find a time of the day when you won't have any excuse to skip it.  Last year, I tried afternoons and evenings, and missed it more than I made it.

This year, I've been waking up early to do it.  I know, GROSS!  But, it's becoming a habit, and I'm actually waking up before my alarm goes off.  I have three big benefits by doing it in the morning:

  1. I don't miss it because I'm too tired, worked late, and one of the other hundred reasons I missed  exercising last year.
  2. I'm on a self-esteem high all day because I feel good about myself for getting up to exercise.
  3. I'm motivated not to over indulge food wise because I think "I didn't drag my carcass out of bed early in the morning and work my but off for an hour to cancel it out for 2 minutes of yummy."

Good luck find your motivator.  Honestly, I lot of it is just bulling yourself into doing it.  Personally, I do not like to exercise (hard breathing, sweaty, YUCK!), but I know I just have to do it.

I'm in the same boat as you!  I just can't seem to muster up the motivation to get going and keep going  :)

I'll take a 30 minute walk today if you do...what do you think?

  1. Did thar work? Did you go for a walk?

I am on vacation in Nashville now. Lots of walking but lots of eating too.  I am motivated to do well while we are down here.  Walking is great! Thanks for the tip! I will let you know how I did.
