Just off the Reductil and totally depressed...anyone else?

Due to being very overweight and a familial prediposition to diabetes I was precribded reductil in November 06. I had already lost approx 3 stone (46 pounds) by myself but had plataued for over a year so I got the prescription. I have to say it worked well and I lost another 25 pounds, bringing me just 1/2pound over the 'normal' range for my height.

I thought that I had adjused to the reductil over time and when I stopped taking them in November last year it would not make much of a difference.

I've piled on 10 pounds since then and am so depressed. I know I over ate a little at christmas, but not 10 pounds worth! I walk 3 miles a day and attend an exercise class and I stick within 1500-1700 calories 6 days out of 7 but nothing seems to be working.

I'm hungry, moody and putting weight on again and I can't go back to being that big again and I don't know what to do! Has anyone else been through anything similar or have any ideas?

jenna, i don't know what reductil is but you don't have to handle the 10# add-on by being depressed.

I spent most of my adult life w/chronic depression. it does lead to weight gain and it really has to do w/low self-esteem and probably not being able to effectively find outlets for ones creativity...

Anyway, you can FIGHT IT. write things out in a journal, talk to everyone and anyone @ what is going on...professionals are sometimes helpful, too. read, read, read about all of it, too... depression/exercise/diet/nutrition...

good luck and, well, stay away from meds. you'll get your 10# back! sharon.
Hi Sharon, thanks for the positivity. Reductil is a generic appetite depressant- I think the drug is salbitrumine (sp?).

Jenna,
congrats on the weight loss so far...I battled depression for 6 years and come from a diabetic family..so to speak.  My family and I have totally cut out gluten no enriched wheat flour, no pasta, no bread...I mean there are lots of gluten free pasta and breads but I choose to opt out.  Anyways, since the fam and I have decided to be "gluten free"  not only has my crazy depression gone away, my entire familyds diabetes has improved immensely.  I would suggest a 1400 -1500 calorie intake and cutting out gluten...I mean if you are willing to try I would be 100% interested in the results.  When I first had to do this I cried everyday but now I realize it is for my health and I am sooo much happier.  I hope this works!  Stay happy and healthy!
Alicia
