So I have a HUGE sweet tooth. I crave sweet all the time. I tend to overdue it with sugar to the point of where I feel sickFrown. Starting today I am going an entire week with out eating anything sugary. No candy, cookies, no junk. I know it will make me feel better but it's going to be hard. Has anyone else done this? Have any tips and advise? Thanks friends!Laughing

I did it for two weeks back in January, and then again for 40 days before Easter, because my mother was giving up sweets for Lent, and she wanted someone to do it with her. So I did it. I lost about 10-15 pounds for the 40 days without sweets. I was at 115 pounds, and I'm still maintaining that, with junk food in my diet.

It really does make an amazing difference. I lost weight, my complexion was perfect, I felt healthier. However, I adore sweet. Cookies, cheesecake, ice cream, mmm....

A lot of people say they lose their craving for sweets after going "cold turkey" for whatever amount of time. However, I did not experience that. I still eat sweets often, probably too much, haha. But whatever.

As for advice, just get through the first few days. It gets so much easier after that. I also think you should maybe aim for two weeks. But even if you just do one week, thats really amazing!

Good luck!

In August I gave up sweets because I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. It was extremely hard at first because I ate sweets all day (it's an addiction) well after 2 weeks I didn't crave them anymore and after a month I didn't even like them anymore. After that month if I ate a sweet I would always think "why in the world did I eat this before?!" Your taste buds completely change.

After I fully got rid of the addiction I can now have sweets every so often and never fall back into them. I have ice cream at least once a week at the moment and it's nothing to die for anymore... it's summer, so I just feel like ice cream recently.

I did however buy a whole bunch of sweets last month because I was having family down who basically only ate sweets, so I had to buy some. Well I found myself eating the sweets out of habit, and not because I actually wanted to eat it. After a week of that I was feeling HORRIBLE. It's that feeling you get when you eat sweets all the time except I had forgotten about that! I was getting addicted again, but as soon as the family left I threw it all in the trash and had to cut it out cold turkey again. I am back to normal again and really despise sweets now. I have never felt so crappy than I did that week. I felt psycho, stomach sick, depressed, exhausted, sleep for like 12 hours a day without noticing, lacked energy. Sugar is just all round bad for people, especially those like myself with insulin problems.

I've done it before, but since then I have fell off the wagon.  I'm getting back on though!

Somehow I lost my sweet tooth. I think it's because I gradually got healthier and healthier to the point where sweets were completely out of my diet and I don't even crave them. At first I cut out soda from my diet which was VERY hard for me since I had soda at least once a day. After that I decided to cut sweets out from my diet. I have probably only had sweets like 3 times in the past three months. I don't even have a problem refusing them and I don't crave them... I guess I'm just lucky!

So maybe you shouldn't cut it out all at once. But maybe have it every other day, then twice a week, then once a week, then it might be easier to cut out of your diet a little bit.

I'm gonna do this too. I was reading another thread about "have your taste buds changed?" and mine haven't because I'm still eating sweet things, fatty things, starchy things, just less of them. So I'm vowing to make the effort to go healthy, not just low cal!

Why only a week?

I have given up sugar - I gave it up 8 years ago and never will I return to it! I feel wonderful and healthy and energetic! Sugar is the bane of all of our existences and should be kept to a minimum if kept at all!

Welcome to the club... for the next week: but I have a slight feeling you might stay in the club a bit longer... or even maybe forever because you feel worlds better! Of course every so often you can allow a TINY treat - but that's it... (I don't even do that, my treats are salmon & cherry tomatoes! ha ha)
