Should I be offended or not?

Quote  |  Reply

I personally took this as a complement,

I went out for a friend at work's 30th bday friday night and one of the other girls that went is someone I used to work with and is married to someone I work with currently.

So he says to me today, "So my wife must have thought you looked really good friday cause she is convinced you've had lipo. I told her you had just been working out but she said no she had work done."

I told another friend at work and she acted like that was the rudest thing.  I mean I suppose I could have taken it that way, and thought she was hating on me, but I dont really offend easy, and other then he dis-acknowledging all my hard work, I figured I'll just take it as a complement.

I said, "tell her I said thanks"

I guess you have two kids and ppl think you can never get it back....

lol! that IS kinda rude, but hey if someone thinks you look THAT good then yeah, I'll take it!  Youve obviously worked really hard and some ppl can't fathom that so they just assume you took the cop out.  good work!

I'd take it as a compliment!! YOu look so good you HAD to have had something done! WTG!

What the wife originally said translates into "there is no way I would have the self motivation or self discipline to lose weight the safe and healthy way; I would take the easy road and do lipo."

Rude yea kinda, but still a compliment none the less... hold your head up high on that one.

That's pretty much how I took it, that she thought no way she did that on her own.  She a lucky (well some times I think lucky) stay at home mom, she has two kids as do I, hers are older as well.  I work full time then, ya know do the mommy think after that.  I just think that she thinks there's no way I had the time.  But trust me if she saw me at work fri with bags and dark circles under my eyes she would see I drag my but outta bed in the mornings ha ha!  So thanks guy's I'm gonna go ahead and feel good about the funny complement all day...shoot maybe I'll hold on to it all week as motivation to roll outta that warm **** bed Laughing

I would take it as a compliment because she thinks there is no way you got those result on your own.

Even if she is hating on you that just translates into jealousy, which means you must be doing something right.

HAha well congrats on the weight loss :] Apparently you're kickin ass! Take it as a compliment, who cares how she meant it ;]  I wish someone thought I'd had lipo! hahah

So totally take that as a compliment.  That is awesome that you look so good it had to be professionally done.  It was professionally done by YOU and you are rocking it! Tongue out

Tell her you did have lipo done..........that should keep her in her happy place.

well take your pick of reasons that are not "i started eating healthier and exercising"...lipo or being sick

I got a few people who asked me if I was sick when they saw me slimmer.  I was offended because I assumed they meant ED sick, but they probably meant something like cancer sick or the like.  I would have preferred lipo to that.

I think she was hating!

I remember loosing weight 2 years ago. I'm back up like 40 pounds btw. Pregnancy Tongue out

But anyway, the lady that used to do my hair kept saying how I got a lipo done.. and I keptsaying no but she kept saying "yes, you did".

Like wtf.. how you gonna know what I got done? lol

I was still fat then too.

I mean if Id get a lipo I would at least look extra fine and thin.

I don't think it was necesarily rude, just out of touch.

to be polite would have been just to say you have looked great and the rest is really none of their business, it just sounds unpolite to me, but it also depends in how well you know them, it is different if you are close friends than if you are only co-workers.

HUGE compliment! She basically implied that your weight loss and exercise routine produced results similar to that of professional liposuction!

Of course, the compliment may have been unintentional. Is she normally a bitch? Are you rich? Did she ever see you working out or hear about you dieting? Did you lose the weight very suddenly? Does she normally say things like that? It is all circumstantial.

Yeah, I could see how she would be saying, "She could never lose the weight on her own, she had to have had lipo! That fat pig... MWAHAHAHA!!!" But then again, she may have just been theorizing.

the reason the wife said this, is because if her husband thought you lost the weight on your own, he might expect his wife to do the same!!

by being convinced you've had lippo, she is giving herself a get out clause for not doing it herself.

its a comment to make the husband turn to her and say ' i love you the way you are, don't have lippo honey '.

she is insecure, jealous, and is projecting this onto your sucesses.

So be proud of your sucesses, and let it go. if she mentions anything like this again, you might like to point out that she is not only belittling all your hard work, but implying that you don't have the strength of character to work hard on your health and wellbeing, and would she mind not being so rude, but for now, i thinks its ok to let it go.

And a massive well done to you by the way, great job Smile

Elizamary,

(just found your post)

Pretty much I think it is always rude to give a comment on someone else's body.  It is such a personal thing to comment on the body of another person and most people "botch it".  But you know what, you can take it any old way you want to .  I would take it as a delicious little boost.  Sounds like maybe someone is jealous of you, but you must be looking good to make them feel threatened, so girl enjoy knowing that others are noticing.   And yes, I guess there is no way to get around it, it is being rude.  Maybe this is the only way this guy knew to give you a "safe" compliment since he is married.  If he says you are looking good by using his wife as his scapegoat, so be it.   Don't give it any more space in your head.....just put a big grin on your face, give yourself a pat on the back and move on.....frankly I would dance naked in the streets if I lost so much weight people accused me of lipo.......dance on!!!!!!!!!
