Hi Im new here, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents as well! :)

  • Whole Milk
  • Soy Milk
  • Extra sugar and heavy cream in my tea and coffee
  • Milo - chocolate drink mix  (if you can find it, sometimes in the Hot Cocoa section of grocery store, sometimes in the Ethnic Section near the Mexican stuff)
  • English Muffins with Land O Lakes Margarine
  • White Bread = more natural sugar in it, less fiber so I dont get full too fast
  • Hummus mixed with  shredded cheese and olive oil on bread or fruit
  • Cheese sticks
  • Gnocchi Pasta with Alfredo Sauce
  • Cheese Tortellini with Alfredo Sauce
  • Chicken Tikka (in a cream-based sauce) - usually I mix the store-bought tikka sauce with heavy cream, dark meat chicken (thighs). Serve with buttery rice!
  • Add green peas to the rice, mix but dont mash them in
  • Chickpeas
  • Almonds! 1 cup almonds = 800 calories! :)
  • Soft Batch Cookies

My new favorite thing I found is drinkable yogurt shakes.  They're lightly fruit flavored and come in 32oz bottles.  One bottle is 760 calories!  If you're a mango lassi fan (indian yogurt drink), you'll love these.

woah! what brand are these yogurt shakes? though 32 oz is a lot to drink at once, that's only 190 cals per cup. I do love mango lassi's though :)

maybe a good yogurt smoothie idea would be to get the high cal greek yogurt and mix that with fruit. I get the greek gods plain kind that is 260 cals per cup, and more if you get flavored. I love the fig flavor too taht comes in a 6 oz cup for 270 cals! Throw one of those in a blender iwth a banana and some milk, you've got yourself about 500 cals in a smoothie, add in protein powder or even peanut butter and you can go higher.

I seem to really like Boost, Ice Cream, Peanut Butter, all NUTS, Avocado, Bananas, mango, Sweet potatoes, Meat, CAKEEEEEE

Nutella :D <3

I Love Hazelnuts ^^

- Fish (Salmon, Trout, Eel, Mackerel, Sardines, Tuna, Escolar, Sable Fish, Chilean Sea Bass)

- Free Ranged Meats (Although they have less calories then their grain fed counter parts, they still are pretty fatty but their fat is so very good for you - Omega 3 fats! The ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3s in Grass-fed Meats is about .75 to 1 which is IDEAL!!!)

- Egg Yolks

- Hemp & Flax Seeds

- Oil & Macadamia Nut Oil

- Olives

- Sun Dried Tomatoes packed in Olive Oil

I mentioned this in another thread, but thought that I would go ahead and post it here since it qualifies!

Food For Life

Food For Life is a company that puts out wonderful carbohydrate products such as bread, tortillas, english muffins, pasta, cereals, etc. They even have hamburger and hot dog buns, and I believe they make bagels. I have experiences with, specifically, their Ezekiel 4:9 products. They are sprouted and cooked at very low temperatures to help preserve precious enzymes, so they are insanely healthy and packed with vitamins and nutrients. I think it should be a real staple in any recovering anoretic's diet because they are higher in calories than most breads and bread products as well. I also feel better knowing that since it is sprouted, it doesn't digest like other breads, but, instead, digests as a vegetable, which makes it easier for me to eat without guilt. It's been an incredible blessing in my experience.

where can you get such high calorie drinks?

Thanks so much everybody for all of the great ideas for foods!  I myself have taken to eating a very large bowl of ice cream (vanilla from Edy's) topped with an outrageous amount of Hershey's chocolate syrup.  I usually eat it before retiring for the night while watching tv in bed.  I also love the strawberry Boost...yummy!  I have noticed that they are getting quite expensive now though...hmmm.  My doc also told me to drink a strawberry shake each and every day (I prefer Jack-In-The-Box...they put whipped cream on top).

I love to eat meats...what is the type of meat with the most caloric intake?  Also...how should it be prepared?

I'm not a meat-eater myself; but it depends on the cut. The ones with a higher fat percentage will have a higher amount of calories. In other words; you don't want a 99% lean cut, you'd want maybe 97% lean. Other than the caloric differences between beef and poultry, and lean percentages, its all in preparation really. Beef has more calories per ounce than chicken or turkey. Just ask your deli-man what's a lean cut and what isn't. Lean = less calories. And if you're a hot dogs and burgers kinda girl, the turkey counterparts are pretty much equal calorie/fat wise unless otherwise specified.

How it should be prepared is however you like to eat it. If you like grilled, use marinades and barbecue sauce to up calories, maybe some olive oil. If you like baked, try breading and butter or making a casserole. Stir-frys with olive oil, nuts, and sturdy vegetables and rice.

My contribution to high cal foods:

Casserole (baked ziti, tofu-pasta,etc)

Bakery muffins/bagels

Granola/muesl

Whole-milk Greek yogurt

Cran-plum juice (160 calories in a cup!)

Eggplant Parmigan

Ratatouille

Italian food in general can take a lot of "Extra" - extra cheese, extra olive oil, extra sauce.

Polenta (made with milk or cream - not just water!)

Avocadoes

Thai curries

Coconut milk/shredded coconut

Winter squashes and potatoes

Creamy soups and stews

Dried fruits, candied ginger

Tinned fruit cup

And of course there's a million condiments you can add to things to make it more high-calorie. My favorites: jam, honey, almonds, hummus, marshmallow fluff and chocolate chips.

Found a good Enchilada Casserole Recipe. It's easy to put together and only takes 30 mins to bake :)

Enchilada Casserole

SERVES 6

INGREDIENTS

* 2 garlic cloves, minced
* 1/2 small onion, diced
* 1 1/4 pounds ground turkey
* 5 Tbsp chili powder
* salt & pepper to taste
* 2 dozen white corn tortillas
* 1-2 (29 oz) cans mild enchilada sauce
* shredded mozzarella cheese
* shredded cheddar cheese
* aluminum pan for lasagna
* non-stick spray

INSTRUCTIONS

Saute the garlic and onion in a large pan coated with non-stick spray for 30 seconds. Add the ground turkey and cook until the meat is no longer pink. Season with the chili powder and salt & pepper to taste. Set aside.

Spray the lasagna pan with non-stick spray. Lay down a bottom cover of sauce in the pan. Follow that with a layer of tortillas; then spread the meat over that; follow this with a sprinkling of both cheeses over the meat; then a layer of sauce; tortillas; meat; cheeses; sauce. Top with a light sprinkling of both cheeses. Cover with plastic wrap, then tin foil.

Bake in 425 degree oven for 20 minutes. Then pull the plastic wrap and foil off and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. Let cool in for 30 minutes to let the casserole set up.

Does Ensure help with weight gain?

Anything can "help with weight gain" if you eat enough of it.  3,500 extra calories will make you gain 1 pound.  8 oz of Ensure Plus is 350 calories.  It's a very high-calorie, well-balanced drink.  So, if you drink IN ADDITION to a fairly large meal plan it will help you gain weight.  Just a warning, though.  It's VERY expensive, about $8 for 6 bottles.  And, many people have problem digesting or keeping it down, probably because it's so dense.  Personally, I think it's better, if possible, to gain weight with real food.
