I love my oats with:

Chopped green apple

Canned pumpkin

Blueberries

Grapes

A tsp of cocoa powder with splenda (7 added calories, and a rich chocolaty taste!)

Anybody got any new ideas? I've decided on oatmeal for dinner and was wondering how it would be on a sweet potato...? (I'm weird, i know! :-D)

Yum!

I also eat oatmeal every morning the same way. I keep thinking I will get bored of it and try something different, but I crave it!

Oatmeal cooked in microwave with water only, then a sprinkle butter buds, tsp Splenda and 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries.

My husband and I got some steel cut oats to try. I can see having them occasionally, but they would have to be SUCH a big change in taste to make them every morning instead of 2 minutes in the microwave!
My favorite breakfast- 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 cup water--cook together and top with 1/2 cup low fat vanilla yogurt.  Very yummy
I eat oatmeal a ton of different ways.  I eat it for lunch some days too when I haven't got a dish prepared to bring in.  (Yeah, it's a lot of carbs, I know.)  Here are some I have enjoyed.  They are not all fancy but all good IMO.  I make it with 1/2 cup dry oats and enough water to cover them, so my oatmeal is usually very thick, I like it like that.  I use 5-minute oats, I like steel cut but haven't had them in awhile.

  • 1 diced small apple and 1 mini box raisins added before cooking (special favorite)
  • 1/4 cup craisins/dried cherries/dried apricots added before cooking, 1 packet splenda stirred in after
  • 2 fresh strawberries and 1 packet splenda pureed in the food processor and added after cooking
  • made with OJ instead of water and 1 packet splenda added
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa and 2 packets splenda added (a little pat of butter helps but I am doing vegan)
  • 1 medium very ripe banana mashed in after cooking
  • 1 tbsp shredded colby cheese and copious black pepper stirred in after cooking (havent made this one since going vegan)
  • 1/4 cup canned (drained) black beans and 1 tsp hotsauce stirred in before cooking
  • 1 tbsp diced onion, 1/2 tsp minced garlic, 1/4 cup diced mushrooms, sauteed and added with copious black pepper after cooking (special favorite, a lot of trouble though)
  • 1 apple diced and added before cooking, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg, and a squeeze of lemon stirred in after
  • 1/4 cup Libby's Solid Pack Pumpkin, added before cooking, with 1 packet splenda/1 tsp cinnamon/dash of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp grape jelly and 1 tsp peanut butter, mixed in after cooking
best oatmeal ever is with soy nut butter and salt!
I should mention the brown sugar slenda is a blend ( browns sugar and slenda)..........1/2 tsp has 10 cal. .... and 2g carb.... and 2g sugar ....................I think I did see somekind of no sugar brownsugar though when I was looking . ( but for price's sake bought the splenda blend)
oats, cinnamon, raisins and packet of splenda! its awesome, unless it explodes in the microwave at work (ihave done that 3 times in 2 weeks!)
i've been adding 3T pumpkin, 2T sugar-free maple syrup, 1/4 cup of eggbeaters, dashes of cinnamon and allspice to 1/3c oatmeal and it's like eating pumpkin pie for breakfast. i cook the oatmeal 2/3 of the way, then add the other stuff & cook it the rest of the way. even better with a sprinkling of raisins cooked in with it. mmm.....
Hey ellybelle!! Someone else who agrees with orang juice is nice! W00. Try adding some raisins to that too.

Everyone keeps saying pumpkin. I'll a little nervous to try - is it that good? I dont have canned pumpkin around, so for me to try it, I'd have to go out and buy then cook and mash pumpkin, so done wanna waste it

I like adding a few raisins when the oats are cooking...gets them nice and plump. I add cinnamon, nutmeg and about a tsp or so of honey and I'm good to go.

I also like to mix in some natural applesauce (no sugar added), a tsp of brown sugar and a pat of Smart Balance spread....yum!
thank god I get to boast some oatmeal recipes of mine!

1) oatmeal tropicale - a few sliced diced pineapple, diced banana, splash of fruity juice and some slivered almonds or shredded coconut to top it off

2) pumpkin or apple pie oatmeal - equal parts oats and either pumpkin puree or applesauce, cinnamon, maple syrup and nutmeg (add apple if youd like!)

3)key lime oatmeal - a little limeade in place of water, some nonfat lime yogurt after oatmeal is heated and top it off with a bit of ff coolwhip!

4) classic everyday oatmeal - crasins, chopped almonds, a chopped banana and maple syrup

5) brownie oatmeal - chocolate soymilk, walnuts and a sprinkle of slimfast choc powder or cocoa powder

6) my new favorite obsession is stirring in a light and fit yogurt after oatmeal has cooked. wow. amazing.
Hi..
Can i just ask a stupid question? How do u make oats?? I'd rather use quaker oats... not the stachet kind, but the instant oats.. how do i cook it??
steel cut irish oats are some of the best tasting oats and oatmeal in the world. nothing like a dollop of whipped cream and a dusting of brown sugar.
Happysarah there should be instrucitons on the pack

You just tip it in a big bowl, add about twice that quanty of water and mcirowave, stirring every 30sec to 1 min

But get rolled oats - the no name brands very cheap, better for you than instant, but take almost the same amount of time. Instant oats are proceesedd chopped up versions of this, but with each step in processing you lose nurtients. Oh, also I add literally a pinch of salt, if I'm having it plainer. It brings out the falvour. Too much and it tastes salty. No need if you're adding sugar tho. But if you're putting fruit on top, it gives it a nice contrast.

Steel cut is better but takes agesss.
thanks :@)
Steelcut oatmeal with frozen raspberries & non-fat milk!  I cook a batch of oatmeal up on the weekend in my ricecooker (1 part oatmeal to 2 parts water) and refrigerate it.

i like to use my oatmeal as a side dish, like rice.

stir in:

minced garlic, shredded carrots, frozen green peas and diced cooked chicken or ham

diced tomatoes, green onions, monterey jack cheese and cilantro.  or, instead of diced tomatoes, try adding your favorite salsa.

sautéed chopped portobello mushrooms and toasted chopped pecans.  top with crumbled feta cheese.

yuppee!

Blapity, I do the savory oatmeal thing too, except I do it as a whole meal.  I call it my "oatmeal vegetable casserole" and it is fantastic.  I stir in steamed broccoli and cauliflower florets, carrots, peas, corn, garlic, and parmesan cheese.  Then I bake it in the oven.  It is delicious!
I'm odd... I mix my coffee into my oatmeal... granted I sweeten my coffee w/ coffeemate (not the fat free kind but the yummy flavored ones). I've been putting in ten spoonfuls and mix it up. I was tired one morning and thought.. hmm coffee and oatmeal? I think I might start adding more of it see how it turns out haha.

God I'm weird.

Whipped banana oatmeal from katheats.com is the BEST oatmeal ever. I add things like pumpkin, raisins, pecans, almonds, natural nut butters, frozen berries, or trail mix to it. I eat oatmeal every morning unless I don't have time. YUMMM!
