how often is 'occasionally'

i know people who eat chips with lunch then ice cream after dinner, every day, ten others who i never see eat treats. a small thinga da keeps the cravings away? but wouldn't that lead to a binge? i know everyone is different but does it matter as long as it fits into calorie allowence? i don't think so?

btw if i eat nothing but healthy, whole foods but lots of it, i go for an hour walk every day but gain very slowly, does me beinga 14 year old make that okay? i mean i was on camp this week and pigged out all week everyday but only gained say 400grams. i take an hour walk most days,my birthday is march next year and i heard you stop growing by then.....so im 57kg now and want to be like 60kg by then, at least 6 pounds....comments please....

Your aim is to gain weight and the best foods to choose for that are healthy, wholesome foods in good-sized amounts.  So you're already on the right track.   If 80%-90% of what you typically eat is 'healthy and wholesome' and 10-20% of what you eat is 'food for fun' like ice-cream and crisps then you're getting a good balance and you're enjoying a normal diet.

Everyone stops growing at different stages.  There are no hard and fast rules.  Best thing to do is to ask your parents, in particular your mother, at what age they stopped growing since, genetically, you're more likely to follow their pattern.  And see how tall they are as well.  Statistically, girls are likely to end up slightly taller than their mothers but shorter than their fathers.  The other thing to remember is that you may stop growing in terms of height but that there are a lot of other developments taking place externally, internally and mentally that progress you from having the body of a 'little girl' to a 'young woman'. So good nutrition is important every step of the way.... in fact, for life.

Thanks :) i thin the only reason i crave food is tha i recently recovered an ED, so my body is still kinda carrying on that hunger.

thing is i want to maintain 60kg after 15years old, and not exceed a max of 66-67kg through until im 18 and hopefully stay at that kinda weight for good....

Have as many treats that feels comfortable for you, there is no right answer that is best for every one!

If you abuse chocolate and decadent foods then they will become less of a treat and you will stop enjoying them as much if you make it a regular habit - just think how sad it would be if a treat no longer had the same appeal!

Just use common sense, eat well most of the time like Gi - Jane suggested, and allow yourself a little of what you fancy now and again, you can get away with a square of chocolate a day if you want it, or you could save up for a little more but less often, it is up to you to find a balance that enables you to enjoy eating the most and that you can maintain for your whole life

Your body can crave all kids of things when you recover from ED ‘s so you can’t always trust it at first as it can be a little out of whack! So, using common sense again, feed yourself healthy foods and eat well balanced meals, when I was recovering it helped me to always make sure I was satisfied by eating regular, healthy meals.

I ate enough so that I never got too hungry and put myself at risk of making bad decisions and eating too much due to letting myself get s hungry that I couldn’t control my s elf

in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with one small treat a day; a fun-sized chocolate bar, a sugar-free fudge bar, sugar-free hot chocolate, whatever.

I actually have been thinking about that as well.

The point of losing weight is to keep it off. However, you have to realize that we only have one life so you have to enjoy it as well.

I used to only let myself indulge once a week when I was losing weight, but I have realized that it's not really something that I can do for the rest of my life.

Now, I have a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner without having sweets or desserts, but every night at around 9:30 after I finish my homework from school I treat myself to a 150 or less calorie dessert.

The desserts that I use are Fiber One granola bars in caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, etc... and I heat them up in the microwave for about 25 seconds so they are like a real dessert. I also buy the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain in Apple Cinamon and heat it up in the microwave so it tastes like a 400 calorie apple pie at just 130 calories.

Basically, at night is when I can't stop thinking about how much I want a cookie or etc... so I buy the granola bars (any brand under 150 calories is fine) and eat them as a treat for finishing my homework, etc...

Then, once a week it's Coldstone's Cake Batter in a Like it at 430 calories. That's my once a week treat that I can't live without or Pecan pie!

What a great idea, the Nutri-Grain Apple Cinnamon bar! I've never heard of that before, thanks for the tip. And mmmm the Coldstone Cake Batter. I agree with you there, it's a perfect once a week treat.
