How often do you jump on the scale?
Just thought I'd throw this out there for fun! How often you do you all check your scales?
I have been working out and watching my diet for almost 3 months now and have only checked the scale twice - once when I started and once last month.
I almost have a phobia about checking because I don't want to disappoint myself. Of course, I know this is silly because how else would I check my progress....but...it's still nerve wracking! Sometimes it's nice just to "imagine" I'm close to where I want to be! ![]()
I weigh once a day, but it's impossible for me to weigh myself at the same time every day, or even at the same time on the same day of the week. If I don't open that morning for work, I weigh myself after I've gone to the bathroom to eliminate any extra weight from waste. =) If I do open, I weigh myself right after I wake up and take a shower.
I weigh so often because I like to keep track of my weight daily, but I only compare results weekly. Every Monday I look at the previous Monday and figure out whether or not I lost any weight that past week. =) Usually I'm right on track with CC's estimation of me losing about 1.5lbs a week.
I used to weight myself every day, but I'm losing inches and haven't lost any weight, so I quit.
I used to weight myself every day, but I'm losing inches and haven't lost any weight, so I quit.
I also measure myself, but I only do that on a monthly basis. It gives me a clear picture of how fast I'm actually shrinking. =) I suspect that I may have lost a bit of girth but no weight these past couple of weeks, even though the scale stayed roughly the same for quite a while. I hadn't even realized I was in a plateau, as the over all trend was still moving downwards. It took until my husband mentioned that in the recent pictures I sent to him, I looked like I had lost a bit more weight (true, but this is the first time he's made a comment about my progress in a little while, and I've sent him pictures in between now and the last time) for me to realize that I was even stuck on the same weight but may be getting smaller.
Next monthly measurement is August 1st. =D I still hope to lose five more pounds by then, but hey, if I don't, that's okay, too, as long as I lost a couple of inches.
I weigh myself once a week.
usually once a week after I sleep in. But a lot of weeks I forget, haha.
Sometimes I'll hop on at random times during the day, but I never take those weights seriously- it's more just for my own knowledge [unless, of course, that weight's lower than I have recorded ;)
I just focus on how i feel. The scale's unnecessary imo.
I'm the type of person who would panic *or get really reaaally angry with myself* if the scale numbers went up from one day to another..*even if its water weight*... >.< , so I just do it once a week. xD
I weigh whenever I go into the upstairs bathroom, the scale is right there by the toilet, i just like to watch. I only pay attention to the first weigh in in the morning when I wake up before I hop in the shower.
I actually don't track my success by my weight though, I track it by body fat% which my personal trainer only takes once per month. I watch my weight because I used to have 10-20 lb fluctuations in a month because of hormones, so I have to make sure that doesn't happen (I'll literally change 3 lbs +/- over night, but I'm a tall girl so I probably have more places to hold on to water) When that happens I know I need to really cut back the salty food, and drink an extra glass of water, and that always helps.
The thing I'm really happy about is that I got a dress the other day, and it was a size 8, I havn't worn that size in probably a good 6 years.
I purchased the Wi Fit program and it weighs me every time I get on the scale and records my weight along with my BMI. I try to do this once a week but sometimes it gets a little difficult because I have to go through a setup procedure. I find it useful to me because it records accurately my progress while taking into account the time of day or night I weigh myself. I can also see my hi's and lo's.
It shows when I weigh myself vs. the end of day and lets me know that the measurement taken at the beginning of the day, after hygiene has taken place, is much more accurate.
So, I weigh myself once a week due to the fun it can bring. I would like to day it daily but as stated, its a task to setup the Wi.
I checked once when I started in April.
Again when I got sick and went to the Dr.'s in May.
Then again when I went back to the doctor's office in June for a follow up.
The next time I check will be on July 21st, when I go in for my yearly physical.
I kind of like not checking too often cuz then I can be super proud of myself when I look at the scale and I've lost 5 lbs since last weigh in... :oP Plus, I can focus more on weather or not I'm eating healthy instead of obsessing over loosing/gaining a pound.
I'm more visual with my progress. The scale is more for amusement than anything. I usually just step on it before I go for my workout at the gym. Currently 218.
I haven't stepped on the scale since I read the book think yourself thin, about a month ago. The scale only intimidates me and makes me feel like a failure. I'm 5'9" and weigh about 160-165, last time i checked. I've never weighed more than this, or this much until recent years. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on weight loss and often times expect to be lighter every time I get on the scale, and when reality hits and I still weigh the same or even a few ounces heavier I become really disappointed or depressed and throw everything out the widow. So until I feel like I've lost weight and getting on the scale will help my self confidence, I won't step on it.
You can always tell when you're losing/gaining weight by the way your clothes fit or with the measuring tape.
I also get disappointed at myself if the scale doesn't go down. So now I get on the scale on the 1st and 15th of every month. ![]()
I am with you maryg2, I get on a scale as little as possible! I used to be an every day weigher (scale addict!) and would get so upset when the scale went up (even though I knew it was normal water weight fluctuations, and that the week before TTOM I was ALWAYS 3-5 lbs heavier). When I decided to lose weight this time, I didn't have a scale at home so used my friends just as a starting marker. While I was actively trying to lose, I would get on whenever I was over my friends for a visit (maybe once every 3-4 weeks or so). I knew I was losing because my clothes were getting loose. My friend has since moved and the last time I weighed myself was Easter! I know I have lost since then (how much, I guess is really doesn't matter, its just a stupid number anyway right?) because clothes I bought right before then are now getting a bit loose again!
I kind of like the liberation giving up my scale addiction has given me. I have also been able to stop religiously counting calories and still maintain/lose VERY slowly. It makes me not worry if I have a not so good eating day or have a treat because overall, as long as my clothes fit the same what is +/- a few pounds. I guess if I found myself heading in the wrong direction (translation, clothes started getting tighter), I might have a weigh-in just to get me back on track.
Like a lot of the people here, I weigh myself more or less every morning, first thing after going to the bathroom. Mostly that's because I'm a big nerd and I like knowing that the green trend line on my weight graph is as accurate as possible: more data points=more accuracy. ;c)
It's also had a few other benefits, though; as a couple people have pointed out, it helps me make sure that I have a realistic picture of my weight, rather than a distortion based on one day's bizarre fluctuation. Plus, I like watching the range go down - somehow it's more motivating to go from 149-151 to 147-149 than from 150 to 148. Dunno why. And finally, my periods have always been really irregular and difficult to predict ... but now, when I spike up 3 or 4 pounds overnight, I have a good indication that TTOM is nigh!
Of course, the key to the whole weighing-yourself-daily thing, if you're going to do it, is not to take any one number too seriously. My partner, who's a lot more anxiety-prone than I am, is a weekly weigher for that exact reason, and apparently finds it a lot less stressful. *shrug* Whatever works, I guess.
I only weigh myself in the morning, right after waking up and peeing. That's what they did in the hospital while I was weight-restoring, so I know it's a good technique of getting accurate weights. I used to weigh all the time throughout the day, but now I've found that I don't freak out as much if I only weigh in the mornings. And if I forget, I don't do it until the next day, so that I can get an accurate reading.
I feel like if you are dieting it is reasonable to weigh your self every day. But since I am pretending to pull a life change here I only weight my self every 6 weeks or so. I have really enjoyed that because I see these huge 16 to 18 pound losses and I always motivates me to make it that much or more for the next time I weigh my self. I see so many people get discouraged by weighing them self's once a week so I figure why set my self up for failure when I know I will lose at least something every six weeks? Even if I only lost a pound I would be happy because lets remember this is a life change so I am in no hurry to get down to normal people weight.
At least 3 times a day. Gotta stop and check once a week. Once in the morning and twice after my workout and shower.
Daily -- AM after getting up and using the bathroom. I record my weight, lean body weight, and fat %. I will weigh every morning for the rest of my life, but once I hit maintenance, I'll no longer record.
I weigh once a week, Thursday mornings. I figure it's just far enough from the weekend where I'll have time to work off any weekend damage I've done! Sometimes though if the number seems really off, up or down, I'll do a double check on Saturday. It helps me see if it was a fluke, water weight, etc. I bought a scale for myself but decided not to keep it at my house for fear of weighing everyday... so I leave it at my boyfriends. Can't weigh myself if I'm not at his place!
AHHH..I weigh every morning..did anyone ever see that commercial where the scale is chained to the persons ankle...LOL...that can sometimes be me, a little obsessive!Keeps me motivated though and on track.
