How often should one weigh?
Some things say everyday and others say once a week or twice a week. I'm doing the everyday thing and it's really starting to aggravate me rather than motivate me like they say it should. The once a weekers say your weight fluctuates everyday and that's why it gets so aggravating. It's the fluctuations that are making me steamed.

What's ya'lls opinion?
If the fluctuations are bothering you when you weigh everyday by all means don't weigh everyday. Some people just can not handle seeing that. Once a week is ok or even less often if you like. Just find what works for you and does not drive you nuts. Me on the hand weighs in everyday because I like the fluctuations.
I can't handle the everyday thing. It would drive me nuts, for sure. I weigh-in every friday morning. I just like to see the results of a week's worth of work.
I probably won't weigh again for a week or two... just because your weight can fluctuate and water weight and yadda yadda.
Like Bobby, the everyday thing would mess with my head and depress me. I weigh on Fridays since I started on a Monday. The one time I weighed myself after a weekend without working out, I saw I had gained two pounds (was probably water) but it sapped my energy, lost it in a day or two, but it was not worth the mind game. (I am doing all of this for what!?)
That's exactly how I feel. But I think I'll start to weigh on Mondays. I joined a bowling league (which is loads of fun just stay away from the beer lol) and lots of walking on Saturdays so maybe that would work out good. It really does play with your head when you see you've lost four gained three, lost five gained two more lol It just makes it feel like 3 steps forward and two back.
I hate the scale! I've been known to go up/down up to 10lbs in 12 hours!!! I will weigh in occasionally, and only log the weights that I like, haha!
See, that's what made it so hard! I weighed yesterday and was 11 pounds heavier than I was the day before and today it's down eight pounds. I feel like I have a scale out of the Garfield comics lol
Your scale is evil. I would have to throw it out the window immediately, if I were you.
I have a window with that scale's name on it! lol But there has to be something I'm doing differently. No wet hair, no clothes, same thing everytime. Though some days I drink a lot more water than others. You know what I notice is the less water I drink the more I weigh. Is that about right because there isn't enough water to flush out your system? Hmmm
Probably, but that is a huge fluctuation. What is it, an $8 dollar one from Wal-Mart? I still think I would invest in another. Then again, I have a Health-O-Meter that is a piece of sh$t. And I only weigh myself once a week. Water is definitely a key factor though.
*sheepish grin* It was actually 10 dollars at Wal-Mart
Yea, you're probably right, I should get a different, more accurate one. It did that to my fiancee too. One day he was 305, two days later he was 318, two days after that he went back down to 308. *shrug* So who knows what's really going on lol
It is the evil scale. Either have an exorcism or get another one.
13 pounds is a huge difference! Mine weighs under (which is great, until you go to the doctor) but it is accurate pound-wise. If it says I put on 8 pounds, I have put on 8 pounds. (and not 13 in two days!)
My dad was a doctor and his advice to me was to weigh no more than once per week, preferably always on the same day and approximately the same time. Best time is first thing in the morning before you've eaten, in order to get the most accurate weight.
Your weight DOES naturally fluctuate daily, so daily weighing does not give you any worthwhile, accurate information.
For instance, I weigh every Wednesday morning as soon as I get up (after I go to the bathroom). I totally ignore the scale the rest of the time.
If weekly is too often for you, you can certainly extend it out - do it biweekly or monthly. Whatever works for you - as long as there is no less than a week between weigh-ins.

It's true. Just like your body goes into starvation mode when you don't eat enough, your body goes into a dehydration mode when you don't drink enough. If you don't get enough then your body will start to store it instead of using it, but if you do get enough, your body will grow used to that as well and let it flush everything out of you quickly. I'm trying to drink at least 2 liters a day. I have to go to the bathroom a LOT though. I've read that that will go away after a couple days when my body gets used to all the water, though.
Does anyone know if that is true ? Does your body get used to a lot more water ? I am really struggling to drink a lot ... I am having to go to the loo every half hour which isn't convenient when I am working so I have had to cut down again.
I weigh once a week. Tried to do it more often but got too disappointed ... up and down daily by as much as 5 lbs but as you are saying, it may be the scales. Time to invest I think !
i weigh once a day
I like to weigh myself once a day because I like watching my weight go up and down and trying to figer out why. I've discovered that I lose weight during the work week but I can't see it because of the amout of water I drink at work (makes it look like I've gained 5 pounds) but after the weekened I usualy discover I've lost about 2 pounds over the week
I weigh every morning, my scale is sensitive so I can see half pounds, maybe I shouldn't do it so much.
I suggest always weighing in the morning when you do weigh, it is most accurate I hear.
I weigh daily, first thing in the morning, always in "socks and underwear", just to keep myself focused, but I only "count" my Sunday weight and the week "average weight" for progress tracking. This way, I have a better "big picture" for the week, and if my weigh in day happens to be my "retaining water day", I'm not thrown by a single day, I know the overall week has been at X pounds. For me, a couple pounds fluctuation is normal: if I have a lot of salty stuff like soy sauce, I'm up the next day. also, I have about a week "that time of the month" when I have guaranteed 3 pounds "gain", but it will go away, so I allow for that, and that week doesn't count for weigh in, but it does count for staying on program. it's the overall pattern and trend that is really important, not the daily. For the record, I started my diet (hate that word, really it was eating style change and lifestyle change) on Labor Day 2007, and have lost 17 pounds.
i had to stop weighing myself everyday because it turned into an obsession which turned into an eating disorder...
those 5 months that my scale was broken were probably the best months ever because i never had to worry about a stupid number... my mood improved because i wouldnt get depressed if the number was up one day
now my scale is working and i have to fight with myself everyday to not step on it, because i am better off not knowing... but it's seriously like an addiction if you get obsessed with the numbers, you can't stop... my doctor made me stop
i only weigh in about every 2 weeks or even once a month sometimes
