How often do you weigh in?
I weigh in every other day just to check that things are progressing the way that I like them to. Log it on the weight log, but then on my official WI on monday I put in the weight then and delete the others from during that week.

to mech, every time i see it and am alone...
i log every 2-3 days but my official is on Mondays. I note on Mondays in that section "week1, week2, " etc...
Every weekday. ^^
I weigh in every morning, but I don't sweat it if my weight fluctuates day to day.
I just watch the trend line on my C-C weight log and as long as that continues on the downward slope, I'm happy.

Every Single Morning. My friends all tell me that is bad. In fact, no one has ever told me that that's a good idea. But I feel completely comfortable with it. I like to know exactly where I stand, each day. Occasionally, I'll weigh myself in the evening as well, but that's mostly out of curiousity... because of course, it will always be more than in the morning. For instance, last night, I weighed in at 203 and I thought to myself "Hmm, that's pretty low. I've got a good shot of being 201 in the morning, if I'm lucky." :D I got lucky.
The only behavior of mine that I think might border on neurotic is the need to weigh myself after taking a shower and then drying my hair. It can be a whole pound to pound and a half lower than when I weigh myself right out of bed. So that's kind of neurotic... but as a scientist, I like to think of it as keeping the parameters "consistent." :)
Yeah, thank goodness for the trend line. What a life saver.

is there a best time in the day to weign in? I usually weigh myself everyday right when I wake up (I've found it's the least I weigh all day, so its less likely to make me want to chuck the scale out the window...haha) but is that really giving me an accurate weight?
Chrys -- I do that too! Maybe not every morning but at least every other day. I like to track trends.
I think as long as you weigh yourself under similar circumstances (like in the morning, or at a certain time in the evening) it'll be accurate enough.

daily in the am
its what i did when i was thin
and its what i didnt do when i was obese.
also coming across articles on people that stay thin or keep of weight they lost includes daily weigh ins.
i dont think its bad to weigh daily at all.
its just a detailed reflection of your loss.
water weight can make you flux by up to 10-15 pounds and i see that clearly now that i keep tract daily and i dont think i gained actual weight. i can see it from TOM or salty foods or not not enough veggies.
anyone that tells me it bad i consider the source.
and the source is usually a overweight person that doesnt diet and doesnt care about being overweight. (at least in my case)
health nut friends dont even bat an eye at it.

10 - 15 pounds?! That's a ton. I thought it was more like 3 or 4. Shows what I know.
Also, what's TOM? I've seen it several times in the forum, but I haven't figured out what it stands for.

The most I ever weigh mysself is twice a week. Usually I only weigh myself on sat, which is my logging day. Occasionally I weigh myself on wednesdays for a mid-week peek. I don't want to be confused or downheartened my natural day to day fluctuations, so I never weigh daily, no matter how tempting it is.
yeh the 10-15 is more for females and people that exercise (water flux)
TOM = period - pms times

I used to be fairly compulsive about it. I've settled in to once per week and sometimes once every other week. I want to make sure I'm in control but not be obsessed... it's been easier on my psyche than I used to feel when I did it daily or more.
A lot of research suggests that people who weigh themselves once a week are the most successful at losing the weight and keeping it off. However, if you're a chronic scale-stepper like I am, this is a hard rule to stick to. There's always that little voice in the back of my brain telling me that just MAYBE I've managed to lose 20 pounds between breakfast and lunch.
daily for me too.
Daily. But I keep in mind, it's going to fluxuate 1-2 pounds each
day. I just think, that's ok, it's the water that makes it
fluxuate. Once I really lose that pound of fat, it will be
fluxuating down a step from that.
I've also found that my weight changes a lot during the morning. If I weigh myself when I first get up (after going to the bathroom), then weigh myself a couple hours later, but before I eat breakfast.. I may drop a pound during that time.
So I think of my weight as a range.. not a number. And that range as a whole, is gradually moving downward.

i do the same thing someone mentioned earlier--i weigh every day and post every day, but keep my eye on the green trendline. i used to only log once per week, but my trend line was never accurate. so i started logging every day and now my trendline is right there! i usually consider the trend my "real" weight. i just feel that if i only weigh in once a week, i might catch myself on a "heavy" day, and then not really know where i stand. i like tracking the progress over the course of the week and watching for general movement downward.
i became a little obsessive for a while, so now i ONLY weigh myself once--in the mornign after workout and breakfast. once i get to a maintainence level (or hit a plateau or whatever) i'll probably move to once or twice a week. i've heard the same thing that people who are the most successful at keeping off the weight they've lost weigh themselves regularly just to monitor.

I weigh in every day in the morning and I think it's the best thing for me to do! I have learned to accept a gain and not jump to conclusions thinking I ate too much the previous day. The trend line keeps going down anyway and I know that if I keep doing what I'm doing in the end I'll lose a lot of weight. Just because people weigh themselves daily doesn't mean they feel they HAVE to, or are obsessive, though of course some people are. I don't think I'll care to weigh myself as often when I'm maintaining!
every day! I'm actually going to make a chart to see how my hormones effect my weight loss. because if you're anything like me, you drop a pound, gain half of it back, drop that half, gain it, lose another pound. It's like a giant wave of frustration. So instead of getting frustrated, im graphin it!
I used to weigh in every morning, after I got up and used the toilet (sorry if TMI!) I found though, that this made me slightly insane. I'd freak if my weight went up a half pound "overnight." Now I weigh in on Thursday and Sunday, and although I still have the urge to weigh in every day, I find that weighing 2x a week makes me 1) less crazy and 2) better able to see progress.
The only downside to this is that I get anxious right before I weigh in on those two days, but I'm trying to be more zen about that!
