How often do you weigh in?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm curious how often everyone else weighs in.  I really try to keep myself to once a week (Saturdays)...but it's a struggle every time I pass that darn scale.  Especially because I know I fluctuate throughout  the day, and seeing a higher number, even if it is just my lunch,  is a bit disheartening.

So, what about the rest of you folks?  Care to chime in?

Hugs!

Sometimes everyday, sometimes not for a few weeks. I don't obsess with day to day or week to week fluctuations -- I look at the month as a whole. If I'm less than or the same as the month before, I'm going in the right direction.

My weight fluctuates way too much day to day to worry about it.
I use a software program called WeightWare which gives you far more interesting analysis if you weigh every single day, so that's what I do, although lately I've been lazy and missing days here and there.

The more data points you feed it, the more accurate it's trending projections are. I've been trying to maintain for a few months now, without counting (and not quite getting the hang of it!!), and for example, the past three weeks it's telling me I'm on a "modest weight gain" trend eating approx 130 calories per day too much, which if it continues, will result in a gain of 14 lbs per year.

It also tells me my average scale weight for the month, my moving average, 30 day trend, and more. All kinds of charts and graphs! The idea behind the program is that theoretically you don't need to count, if you weigh every day the computer program will figure out how many calories above or below you ate.

I just started counting again, because of this modest weight gain trend. But as far as I can figure out, the bigger factor is that I've slacked off on the running mileage in recent weeks, got to get that back up there to burn more calories! I'm still under my "trigger" weight though.
I do it every day. People say this isn't good because weight fluctuates, but it helps keep me under control and on track.

Almost everyday.  It helps me to keep track of what I do and eat and how it effects my diet.  But I only mark down the weight once a month in the journal.

I have read that weighing yourself once a month or week or day has it's benefits.  All depends who wrote the article I guess.

P.s. I believe I've read somewhere that successful weight loss maintainers weigh themselves every single day. Yeah, it can mess with your head -  if you let it - but it's supposedly highly effective to do so.
I also weigh myself everyday. After a while you learn to understand the fluctuations and, as jenmcc said, to judge your progress by looking at the trend. I find the trend calculator right here on Calorie-count to be pretty efficient and accurate.
I weigh myself first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom. This is my third day of official dieting and tomorrow I'm going to buy brand new scales 'cause I've had mine for a few years and I suspect they don't weigh accurately...

Weighing myself everyday helps me keep control over what I eat and do...however it's the official weekly weigh-in that really matters...

Bought a slimming magazine today. Although I enjoyed the success stories I won't look again at the different recipes. They made me really hungry considering I was eating a plate full of veggie soup

I have always been taught that weighing in every day is not a great idea.  Your body takes in and eliminates food and water as mass and on a daily basis you will see odd swings in weight depending on the actual weight of what you've eaten and what you've eliminated.  I weigh myself once a week on the same scale on the same day first thing in the morning (before eating or drinking).  In this way I can get at least a partially consistent reading.  The best accuracy comes over time as you can see the trend developing and your body changing.  Also, don't get discouraged by weighing in on a different scale and seeing a heavier reading - all that matters is that you find a way to measure your progress and that you feel better.

Actually, the C-C trend calculation is highly accurate - provided you weigh in every day or at least frequently. The less data points, the less accurate. That's what I find. I only update it with new lows, since I use the other tracking program for daily input.

My OWID (Official Weigh-In Day) is Sunday.

My first USWID (Unofficial Sneaky Weigh-in Day) is Thursday.

Sometimes, if I am not happy with Thursdays USWID, there is a Friday or Saturday USWID.

Only OWIDs get logged, the USWIDs merely get obsessed over.

I usually weigh myself usually more then twice a day, it's like an obsession and I cant help it.

I usually go on the first thing in the morning weight though as my official weight for that day.

The true test is how your clothes fit.  Of course I still weigh myself every morning!

I was weighing myself every Wednesday but latley it's been atleast 5 times a day or more. I am kind of getting obsessed with it but I dont let the fluctuations bother me! It keeps me on track. The only weight I go by is the morning weight!

I weigh myself every day and keep in mind that fluctuations are normal.

Considering fluctuations, I think it makes more sense to weigh in daily than weekly or monthly because your weight may be doing something wierd that one day of the week or that one day of the month.  Seeing the numbers everyday helps me determine when the fluctuations take place.  I also put in comments for things like eating out, or my birthday, or thanksgiving, or when my period starts.  This way when I go back and see that my weight spiked one day I can guess that it might have been because I ate out the day before my period started.  Because I have this information, I won't freak out about one spiked day.

i weigh myself every morning after i get up and go to the toilet ;p

so far its been going down every day unless i have a blip and eat more than my calorie goal :S

the best i think is to log your weight every morning and then just look at the trend line and see whether you are actually losing weight or not!

Obsessively, 10 times a day at least.

I weigh myself every other day and not at all on the weekends. Don't really have a reason why, just kinda how it works out. Smile So that would be Mon, Wed, & Fri.

I do see lots of fluxuations, but it doesn't bother me one bit, thanks to this site and now being so knowledgeable about how this all works.

I kinda like the zig-zaggy marks on my weight log lol

Jessie - I hate those zig-zaggy marks on my weight log!! I much prefer a descending line - that is my aim...

so...I weigh every day and tell myself what I ate the day before so that I can learn how my body reacts to certain foods

That way I can see less of Jessie's zig-zaggy lines - you can have em!

lol they are usually due to 0.5 pound, and they are zig zagging downward Tongue out

Once a week-ish. I start obsessing with a daily weigh-in, it's better for my psyche to see real results, rather then fluctuations.

Without dieting, I bounce around about 5-6 pounds in a month, it's just the way it goes for me. My weight still bounces, but at least the numbers get lower, even if the 5-6 lbs. range doesn't narrow:)
