How often should weigh-ins be done?

My natural answer would be every day, naked before eating anything. But I know this isn't realistic or healthy. Soo...how often should weigh ins be done? Once a week? Every two weeks?

Also does anyone have recommendations for reliable scales? Are digital scales okay and how can I know if it is not working properly?

The answer to the reliable scale is still a mystery to me....

but as for weigh-ins, I usually weigh every day, but don't "count" it until i post for one of the challenges I'm currently in, which would be once a week.  This way, you are aware of fluctuations, but they shouldn't make or break your day.

Weighing in every day can be realistic and very healthy.  I've weighed and recorded my weight every morning (that I'm home, of course) for over two years.  It's just a part of my morning routine, no different from brushing my teethn.  I've lost 57 pounds.  I intend to weigh every morning for the rest of my life.  Once I hit maintenance, I'll stop recording, but I will still keep weighing. 

I weigh in twice a day, morning and evening, but some people might have problems with daily fluctuations. It all depends on the person.

I weigh every day, first thing in the morning, naked, after using the bathroom.  It's how I keep track of which fluctuations are from my cycle, and how I see what effect different types of food have on me.  If I'm not home, I just skip weighing that day.

 

I find that I tend to think of myself as whatever the lowest weight in the last week has been.

For me, weighing in daily is nuts. And disappointing to the max. I prefer to do it weekly because I can only lose a little less than 1 pound a week anyway unless I work out for HOURS, so I'm not going to see any changes day to day. Why bother? Weekly weigh-ins also allow me not to think about my weight every day and not feel obsessive.

I weigh daily which I believe isn't correct and it does occupy my mind that I haven't changed in weeks.  Same as you I only lose a little if any a week but I like to see I haven't gained.  Although it is disappointing when I have a night out and eat extra and drink then I add a pound on luckily I haven't keep any of it.  I only had 11 pounds to lose from the start and it's taken 7 weeks to lose 6 pounds. So now it's tough to keep on trucking not seeing any difference.

So I hope I can get myself out of this daily weigh in and go to a weekly.

 

I weigh in once daily in the morning on the same scale. I try to limit recording it to once a week.  I've got over 60 pounds to lose and part of the reason I got this way was ignoring what I was letting happen to my body.

By checking the scale daily, I'm forcing myself to be slightly obssesive and aware of my goals. I do better with a daily weigh in. However, I also know that the scales don't always accurately reflect things like muscle gain or inches lost-- so if I've had a good week with food and working out, then I allow myself to not worry about the daily fluctuations.

I weigh every day also, it's just a check-in and a reminder, even though I'm on maintenance now.  I know other folks would go nuts with the inevitable fluctuations (my range is around 5 pounds) and if that's the case for you, you might try weighing once a week.

I also weigh in everyday, but my weight tends to go up and down by as much as 3 to 4 pounds.  Just don't get to caught up in the numbers and be sure to measure your waist once a week to see any difference in the numbers.

I weigh every morning but I only officially record it once a week. I like seeing what my body is doing and adjusting how I eat and exercise according to the fluctuation.

I only weigh once a week to me weighing everyday would be dissapointing and very unstettling.  I am afraid I would lose my focus if I belived thing were not going my way and probably do something stupid like drink a milkshake.  I think it may just be a matter of personal prefrence.

 

 

It honestly depends on how you feel about yourself. there is no right or wrong. I only weigh myself once a week because if I do more I get discouraged from not seeing a change. If your mindset is different and don't expect a change in your weight for the good then don't do it. If you realize that it won't show much from day to day then I think its prefectly healthy to weigh in every day.

A good way to tell if a scale is a lemon or not is to step on and off 3 times in a row. If the scale tells you 3 different answers its garbage. My scales have always matched up with the doctors. I'd say if you want your scale to tell you the truth go get weighed at the office and when you get home weigh yourself and adjust the knoby to what the doctors scale showed.

I like to weigh everyday, first thing in the morning.  For the rest of the day I know where I started that day and what I need to do.  If my weight is the same, then I'm happy I haven't gained and need to continue to work on losing the last 7 pounds (slow but sure).  If I've gained, then I know I need to work a little harder that day!  If I've lost, then I'm happy that I'm continuing on the right path.  It is all about how you keep yourself on track, what works best for you. 

I used to weigh in once a day, but now I do it once a week. You're bound to see more accurate progress if you do it once a week as opposed to more than once a week.

Mostly every morning.  I've stopped weighing myself multiple times a day, and I don't weigh myself anymore during TTOM (too depressing).  I too fluctuate 3-4 lbs depending on water retention normally; I've been known to gain up to 7lbs during TTOM. 

I weigh once per week, I want to lose but more importantly i want to change my eating habits and exercise.  i also am taking my waist measurement every couple weeks and as long as something is going down or more importantly i am taking better care of myself life is good!

i weigh in everday.. even though everyone says you shouldn't. i understand weight fluctuations so weighing in everyday doesn't really bother me. i only keep track of my weight every wednesday.. every other day is just to keep in check.

I try to weight myself on a monday and a friday.  I always seem to find a difference at the start of the week and end of the week by a Kg.

I don't know if it's normal, perhaps due to indulgence over the weekend and menstral times but I find that one Kilo just goes up and down!

I weigh in once a day.  I find that doing it every day as part of my morning routine has made it habit forming.  Hopefully this will help me once I hit my goal and start maintaining.

I do it once a day at the same time and under the same circumstances. I was skeptical about that until I had a talk with a friend of mine who is a nutritionist and trainer.  He explained that your body changes and does fluctuate.  Sometimes you can find a pattern and I have.  I find that my body does its 'losing' between Tuesday and Thursday every week, for whatever reason.

If you weigh in once a week and that number is not a good one, you may not feel good about it.  But what if is was some extra sodium in your diet the day before that caused you to retain water and thus be heavier?  You only get that one chance per week to see what the scale says.  As long as it doesn't unnerve you to see the ebb and flow of your body, then I think it is healthy.  It helped me alot when I was losing weight (58 lbs) and am still doing it in maintenance now for the past few months.

The key to whenever you do it is to be consistent.  Weigh yourself on the same scale under the same exact circumstances so your comparison to the previous weight is an 'apples to apples' comparison.
