How often do you weigh yourself?

Quote  |  Reply

I personally weigh myself once or twice a week, but I know people that weigh themselves on a daily basis, which in all honesty can't be that accurate. Your weight fluctuates a LOT during the day. Especially if you eat foods like granola and drink a lot of water. And obviously you'll weigh less after a BM (Bowel movement :P)

(I think some people forget that in addition to your actual body weight, the food you take in, and "release" still has weight. <_<)

I weigh myself every morning right after getting up. It stays pretty even.

I weigh myself every morning. Sure, your weight fluctuates during the day - that's why I don't weigh myself at other times - just in the morning (after pee, before shower or breakfast, no clothes).

And I don't pay attention to the individual weigh ins - I just look at the trend line - if it's headed down, I'm losing weight. If it's flat, I'm maintaining.

If you freak out if the scale says something high, then daily weighing isn't for you. But honestly, your daily weight is very dependent on what happened yesterday (workout, volume of food, bm, sodium, water, etc) not to mention if you are on your period (for women, of course). So if you only weigh yourself once a week, then what you are seeing is in part what happened yesterday. If you weigh yourself each day, you see the highs and lows, and can get a better sense of the trend.

That's just my preference, but unless a person is weighing herself multiple times a day, there isn't a wrong answer.

I weigh myself daily as well.  I don't do it at the same time of day.  Yes it flucuates by several pounds, but I don't worry about it.  It's the overall trend I am looking at.  I usually weigh myself every time I'm in the bathroom with the scale.  Not because I am obsessing, but just because I am bored/curious.  I've found that BMs don't make much of a difference for me.  Sorry, TMI.  Really its just a number though.  I measure my success moreso on how I feel.

I weigh myself daily too.  Sometimes more than one time per day.  I just like seeing where i'm at.   I just look for a trend to make sure i'm headed in the right direction I guess

ive weigh myself every morning first thing. for the first time in years i dont have scales as im travelling at the moment and although i can judge it by the way my clothes feel, unfortunately not seeing the numbers every day looses my motivation, im sure ive gained. I love seeing the number go down lets me know im doing the right thing and excites me to keep going, if it goes up i know ive been naughty and its a reminder to focus.

I weigh myself daily as well, once in the morning. I too feel more motivated and confident when I can see my trend line heading in the right direction.

I,  too, am a daily weigher.  I promised myself that if I ever started being so obsessive that the number on the scale starts impacting me emotionally that I would stop it immediately.  I know that the scale is just a number ... but I need to have that accountability ... because clearly my own judgement has not done me any favors in the past.  If I EVER weigh myself more than once a day ... I hope someone advises me to seek some professional help! LOLLaughing  That can not be healthy!

Once a month.  I got tired of seeing nothing day after day, and week after week.

Once a week is good enough for me!

I weigh in each morning but then I get all upset if I am up.  So it is best to pick once a week, same day, same time and go from there.

I weigh myself every morning right after I wake up and go pee.  I think it serves as great motivation for me.  I have had a couple of times where I have gone up a few pounds and it didn't bother me a bit.  Your weight fluctuates for different reasons and if you can keep that in mind, then I guess daily would be ok.

I weight myself like eight times a day.  I think it's so funny to see it fluctuate with meals.  But obviously the most accurate measure is to do it in the morning, naked, after you use the restroom.

I weigh myself pretty much daily and log my weight just as frequently but I have only one "official" weigh in day (Thursday) and go by that.  I know that weight fluctuates so a higher number than expected doesn't freak me out and a much lower than expected number doesn't elate me.  I do find though that weighing in regularly keeps me accountable and more conscious about the things that I choose to put in my body like sodium, caffeine and alcohol, all of these give me a higher number on the scale the next day at some point or another.  I know that weighing in daily is not necessary for a lot of people and for some it should be avoided if they tend to obsess over the numbers.  I say to each their own.  Do whatever works for you.  If you don't like to or don't benefit from a daily weigh in then don't do it but if you do then go with what works.  I know for me it helps keep me on track, makes me more aware, puts things into perspective and at the very least satisfies my curiosity. :)

I'm currently fighting the food demons, and weigh myself every day...Embarassed I don't think it's healthy, nor necessary to weigh every day, but old habits are hard to break... In a book by a leading vegan nutritionist, the author writes "leave scales where they belong - on fish." (and she wasn't just talking about diet Wink). She's of the opinion that by eating a healthy diet and getting sufficient exercise, scales are superfluous. I think they should serve to keep us on track, sure, and I think looking at it that way, once every week should be the max. - my ideal is once a month and I hope to get there soon.

My husband and I weigh in once a week, we have our own little "biggest loser" competiton going on now and the winner each week gets a special treat.

The scale by no means should be your only device for measuring success, your clothes being loser, rings getting to big, etc... You have to remember that as you excercise you will burn fat and gain lean muscle which weighs more but you are getting smaller.

I weigh in Daily but I only log Monday's weight in my journal.  I do it every morning after I wake up.

I tended to weigh myself daily, sometimes more than once a day, but as I'm recovering from an ED, that's not healthy - seeing the weigh fluctuate was the reason I'd fall back into binging and purging - so I started weighing myself weekly and now I'm planning on doing it monthly. Doing it once a month helps put me in a contained bubble and it feels like I'm training towards a competition - me and the scale, I have one month to get ready. I eat so I'm not hungry, logging everything, train very hard, have two active jobs and go to school full time. I lost over 10 pounds last month gradually implimenting my diet habits so that it was all very organic, and now that I've been for two weeks without bad days (the concept...just doesn't exist, I'm not even tempted by junk food, since I went gradually) and I can't wait for the next weight in in three weeks. I'M GONNA GETCHA, SCALE!

I weigh myself on a dialy basis but only Sunday morning way in gets logged in my journal. I weigh first thing in the morning that way there is no water weight form drinking and eating. It does fluctuate a little but as long as its not alot i don't freak out.

Really? 8 times??? Surprised

I step on the scale every Saturday morning and write it down.

I agree with sweetandbrown: "I know that weight fluctuates so a higher number than expected doesn't freak me out and a much lower than expected number doesn't elate me."

Years ago, I used to weigh myself daily.  The numbers would fluctuate so much that I would get a little irritated.  The once a week thing works for me.

If you don't stress over the numbers too much, then every day would also work.  More than once a day is a bit excessive I think.
