Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k How often do you weigh yourself
I have read recently that some doctors recommend weighing yourself everyday. I tried this and I get really frustrated. Do you think it is weight loss suicide to weigh once a month?
I weigh every morning.. one thing I HAVE learned.. weigh yourself at the SAME TIME every day to get accurate weight loss results.. you weigh more in the evenings..
well to avoid obsessing over NORMAL bodily flucuations, i only weight myself at the gym. the last time i weighed myself was about 2 weeks ago. i dont weight myself too often becuase that would just discourage me bcuz my weight loss is very very slow.
I read an article in the local paper about daily weighing. According to a study, individuals who weighed daily tend to be five to seven pounds lighter than their counterparts. Interesting. I used to weigh daily and now weigh every othe day or there about.
A long time ago I used to weigh myself once a week, so I could see my stats, if I was losing or gaining, most of it was losing. Now if I were to do that everyday I'd be way to frustrated b/c of all the weight I've gained. So it depends I think you should do it not so often, as to not frustrate yourself, but enough where you won't lose track of how you're doing.
daily!
I tried to weigh once a week, because that's what everyone told me to do, and ended up gaining a lot of weight. I would know that I tracked my weight on thursday so friday I would eat anything and everything and assume I could make up for it during the week... BAD MOVE on my part.
Now I weigh daily. I don't mind the fluctuations, they're normal. :)

Daily and usually many times but only one is logged at the same time each morning regardless if it goes down or up during the day (usually both!).
i weigh every day, but i also know my body. i know when i'm low because i'm dehydrated, and i know when i'm high because i'm pre-menstrual.
you have to do what works for you. if you find that the scale gets to have too much power, you should weigh less often or not at all.

I weigh myself once a month because if I weighed any more frequently, I would start to get obsessive. I think it would be better to do once a week but it would just not be good for me. I have lost weight just as expected with the monthly weighings (ie, 600 calorie deficit = 5.5 pounds lost per month). I plan and log my calories every single day, so I know what to expect at the end of the month.
I think if you are confident with your body and are trying to fine-tune your weight loss or figure out exactly what works for you, weighing more often is best.
I would only weigh myself daily if I knew there was NO chance I would freak out over having gained 1 or 2 pounds since yesterday. The comment about daily weighers losing more weight is interesting though. If I weighed daily I would lose more weight because every time I gained some water weight I would probably flip out and starve myself... even though I know fluctuations are normal :(

now going to be once a week or twice a month - i used to be obsessed with weighing and if the scale went in the wrong way i lose heart and hope and start picking to cheer myself up- i weighed today for the first time in five days or so and have put on 2.6lbs so i am now hiding the scales for a while till i get back to normal eating
I wish I could weigh myself everyday but my scale is a piece of junk. Does anyone have a certain type of scale they would recommend? This is the 2nd scale I have purchased and it's just as bad as the first. Thanks!
I know its probably not right but I go by the mirror and how I feel and look..
I weigh daily...reason being that I want to keep a track of my weight otherwise I fear I could become too complacent with it and gain weight
i weigh daily reason is i want to know what foods effect me. ie cause a retention and what not. i know all about the fluctations and take them with stride.
TOO MUCH lol. Every day atleast 5 times a day and it is frustrating because my weight fluctuates sooo much. I try to tell myself to do it once a week so that I can see more of a permanent change, but it never works, I can't help myself...I'm addicted lol!!! But on the other hand it is also very motivating cause when I'm down I'm so happy and it makes me want to go work out harder and when it's up it still makes me want to try harder.

Never!
DAILY! I need to know if I am up or down...my whole day depends on what that darned scale says to me!
I do the once a week thing but would rather weigh in everyday that way I would know how much it is fluctuating during the course of the week from day to day but im sticking to what the doc says for now and once a week
ive been doing it every day. If i loose, i say to myself 'ill check tomorrow, just to see if it is correct' but somehow ive been loosing very quickly, so ive had to check every day.
I will try and cut down on my weighing to every week, but its tempting when the scales are there! x

I weigh myself at least daily, sometimes more often, mostly because I'm trying to find out when and why my weight fluctuates during the day, week, month, based on stress, exercise, menstrual cycle etc. However, I only use the "Wednesday first weight after morning shower" as my official weigh-in to mark my progress with weight loss. This system has really helped me to see what factors effect my weight during different times and still help me see a steady weight loss over time. I don't get as frustrated with small fluctuations because I have figured out a lot of what causes them and I know they are normal for me. Sometimes, when I show a loss early in the week, it motivates me to try to keep it for the official day. My husband thinks I'm nuts, because I'll tell him "it's not official yet." He has been really supportive, bragging on me to family and friends.
it's usually weekly. the daily fluctations frustrated me too much. every now and then, i'll hop on the scale to see where i'm at, but i don't worry about it too much...it's the wednesday morning figure that counts...
