how often do you wiegh yourself
Reason: Moved from Motivation to Weight Loss
When I'm losing weight, once a week.![]()
When I'm maintaining, everyday.![]()
When I'm out of control, never.![]()
Every single day. I really wish I didn't. I know that doing it once a week will make me feel better, but I'm afraid that I'll be gaining weight and not know about it until a week later! I actually weigh myself a few times a day, and when I don't like what it's saying, I'll stand in one place for about a minute, then try again. It usually makes it go down a little, haha
Ooooh, I need to stop ![]()
I weigh myself twice a day. In the morning, and at night. It's amazing how much of a difference there is between morning and night.
Once the numbers stop moving, I'll hopefully be able to hold back and only weigh myself once a week. It's definitely depressing when you don't see any movement on the scales.
My father, a physician and surgeon, explained it to me years ago. Your body weight naturally fluctuates throughout the day and even day to day. The minimum amount of time between weigh-ins should be at least a week, preferably the same day of the week, same time of day. The best time is first thing in the morning after you eliminate and before you eat.
Anything less than a week is erroneous information that is just going to either upset or excite you unnecessarily.
I used to weigh myself every morning, right after I went to the bathroom, because that is the best time to weigh yourself (or so I was told by many a fitness/health magazine). I have also read (in my most recent Women's Health magazine) that people who weigh themselves everyday have a better chance of keeping their weight from creeping upwards because they can see the weight gain happening and make small daily changes to keep on track.
However, as doctors have explained, weight fluctuates and who's to say I won't be down 2 pounds tomorrow from the weight I am today? So what's the point in weighing yourself everyday if it's going to fluctuate up and down? And since muscle weighs more than fat, if you've just started working out, the scale might not budge, but you will still be losing inches, so why let the scale measure your progress at all??
I don't think I can ever give up weighing myself because I do consider weight to be an important measurement when trying to be healthy, but I have stopped doing it daily. I think it makes more sense to do it weekly. I know what my "normal weight range" is and if I start creeping past that range, I know when I need to take corrective action.
I've gotten into a habit of doing it a few times a day. Usually once in the morning (which is pretty much your lowest weight during the day) and then maybe 1 or 2 other times. It's more amuzing just how much weight you can gain from eating a meal. Or how I didn't loose any weight for about a week because I was retaining water before my TOM. But once it ended, I dropped about 3 pds right away. I enter in my weight into the tracker only about once a week.

that movement is the wieght of the foods you've eaten during the day that haven't been digested. it takes about 24 hours to digest food. you're never going to stop seeing your weight fluctuate. it can fluctuate anwhere from one to five pounds.
