Why oh Why did I buy the big bag?

Quote  |  Reply
I ran over to CVS today to buy a sinful snack for snacktime. Lay's Wavy Regular Chips. I love Lay's Wavy Regular Chips. There was a sale on the big bag with 20% more... so I got the big bag thinking ah, I'm in control here, I can have those sitting there and not eat them.

WRONG!!

I ate them. All of them. The whole bag. 14 servigs of salty crunchy delight. That's roughly 2100 calories. *sigh* My coworkers think I'm crazed. It only took me 4 hours to take out the whole bag.

if it would make you feel any better
I pased by CVS on Friday to pick up Fever reducer for my toddler. Then I though, how much I miss Cadbury's Milk Choclate. I bout to Bars on with roasted almonds and one was plain (becuase I could not remember which one I liked better)
each bar is 3 servings. I started with the roasted Almond one. It tasted sooooooooooo good. Then I tried the Milk Choclate one .  it was soooooooooooo good .. I kept at it, by the end of Friday, both bars were gonnnnnnnnnnnne + a whole bag of twizzlers black licroice that I ate between the servings trying to change my mouth tase !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
don't beat yourself up too much clever! now you know, don't buy that big bag!  it's hard when they make it seem like such a bargain though i know (same thing at the fast food places and their evil biggie and supersizing). next time, look at the total calories on the bag and think to yourself, do i really want to eat this many calories worth of chips myself (even over a week)? if the answer is no, then buy the snack bag (even if it's a rip off!). then you'll have no choice but to stop there!
In addition to only buying the small bag, sometimes when I find myself eating a whole bag of something out of control I find it best to throw it away.  Throw it away and pour soap on top (like miranda in that sex and the city episode).
Pel - that is SO funny - all my friends call me the guy version of Miranda already.
Hey DO NOT FEEL BAD....

I ATE HALF A JAR OF NUTELLA..... it took me an hour..... we are talking 250 grams of nutella... It happens to the best of us and me too. :)

Oh that sex and the city episode! I remember that!

Yeah..... I had to throw away the rest of the jar..... I just realized what I did and threw it in the dishwater until morning just so I would not eat it.
its okay. it's done.. but i know how you feel.

When my friends and I are at blockbuster and we get to the candy aisle, I see the bag of skittles that is like 1,000 calories and I know if I get it , I'll eat it, so instead we go to a convenient store and get a regular size pack which is 250. If you don't buy it, you can't eat it. =D you learned your lesson, next time you'll know to get the small bag. Some things are just too hard to put down until they're gone ;).
I always do the same thing. Say I want some sour skittles, but they are 220 calories for the bag, so I go for the sour gummy worms instead, and they are like 110 for a serving, but there are like 5 servings in the bag. I'll think that I can control myself, but nooo, I eat the whole thing. I share a little with friends, but I still eat more than one serving. Then I regret not buying the normal bag of skittles. Actually, I did something similar to this on Tuesday. I bough a thing of Altoids mints, and ate THE WHOLE thing of mints. It was like 260 calories. I put one in my mouth, and then I wanted another, and so on. So, I've decided to not buy them again until I feel as though I have complete and utter control over them. I did this for Quakes Rice Snacks, and I bought a bag a week ago, and have only eaten 1 serving of them. And I think I ate that serving on the day that I bought them. This is the first time I have not eaten the whole bag in a day or two. : )
Hi guys.....

Ok, while we're all fessing up.... I bought a box of cereal last night (Special K Red Berries) and now it's gone!  Argh!  I just can't be trusted with an open box of cereal....

or an open box of anything, for that matter!
Not only did you consume all of those calories....you consumed a ton of salt and probably MSG.  You will probably retain water.  I don't know what would posess someone to drive all the way to cvs for a bag of chips anyway.
the soap trick really works. haha. I did that after Christmas when I sat down with a big pack of licorice my mom gave me... about 3500 calories total maybe.. and after about 6 pieces I realised I couldn't stop and emptied the bag into the garbage and poured dish soap over it. I may have stared at it sadly for a few minutes thinking what have I done?!  but after the initial feeling of loss I felt really empowered that I had beat the evil licorice.
LOL... I did the same thing with Special K red berries!!! :P

my mom sent me a box and .... well I had been months since I even seen a box and .. I opened it and  in two days.....*poof* it was gone.

:D Funny
When I look at the savings in buying the big bag over the small bag, I think about the convenience of having the nutritional information for the small bag vs. having to portion out from the big bag.
I'm definitely a sucker for a sale.  I'm very particular about my potato chips - they're expensive.  I can almost always resist, but if they're on sale (and it's usually a 2-for deal) I often cave.  I try to avoid that aisle altogether.

One strategy I've used that works well is instead of denying myself, I'll tell myself I can have them "later."  After work, for instance, when I'm hungry and tired, I'll tell myself that if I still want it (chips, beer, what have you), I can go get some after dinner.  Once i've settled in, had something to eat, got comfortable in my pajamas, i don't want it anymore.
Lol @ dishsoap on licorish..... you could have just washed it off or something.

I guess I have much better will power.   Though I love chips I don't buy them for myself anymore... I instead get them for the kids on occasion but I don't consider them something I can eat.

Fried chicken from Popeyes is my weakness.   Atleast it was last time I ate it because I just couldn't imagine how many calories were in a thigh... let alone 2 thighs, 2 wings and a leg.   Goodness... I had to go to the gym after that for an hour and a half to not feel guilty over it.  I won't be buying any more chicken there for a long long time.   Lesson learned.

Oh and I drank plenty of water to help it being processed a little faster.
My problem is if I allow my blood sugar to get too low.

Usually, I'm fine. I can eat what I need and not what I want, but if my blood sugar gets too low... :p

I believe Saturday I ate.. lemme see if I remember.. 13 Buffalo Wings, a large fry, 2 cheese sticks, 1 pizza skin and was STILL hungry.

It was what it was.. Sadly :p
jrnether...was your post intended to do anything other than make her feel bad? she's obviously well aware of what she ate, and personally, i don't see anything strange about running to CVS for one item.
First of all, this thread is HILARIOUS, I'm like, laughing outloud...

this morning I went to dunkin donuts to get my coffee and walked out with a 25 count of munchkins.  I'm not sure how it happened.

I managed to make it all the way to work without eating any, literally wrestling my own inner turmoil, when fnially, in the parking lot, I ate three of them in about 2 bites.

afterwards I literally RAN to the office kitchen and put them out for other suckers ;) 15 minutes later they were gone.  Th office kitchen, is my advice for getting rid of temptations!  Soap not necessary! (well, sometimes it is ;)
and "ditto" to jules, that was uncool
That's how I get with donuts. I can eat a 1/2 dozen alone, no problem. *sigh* Or a pint of ice cream. Or a whole can of Pringles.

Throwing it out when you realize you're going to eat it all is the only solution.

I once smashed a whole lemon icebox pie (minus one piece) down the drain just so I wouldn't be able to eat the rest of it in one sitting.
My friend at work just HAD TO GO AND HAVE A BIRTHDAY TODAY,  so I ate a piece of cake :'(  *cries*  it was 210 cals of crap I didn't need :(

UGHHHHHHHHHHHH why did I do that...............
