Since November 2006, I've lost almost 40 kilos.... Now, due to stress eating and the pressure of doing an MBA degree, I have started to pick up weight again... Over the past 2 months I've gained 10 kilos already... I keep on telling myself that I'll start tomorrow, but after 2pm 'tomorrow' I find myself stuffing my mouth with comfort food and fail to stick to my promises. I need urgent help in terms of starting again and sticking to it.
Life is a series of stressful, challenging situations. We live, we encouter all kinds of emotions, and we deal with stress.
It is how you deal with those stressful challenging situations that forms our character and builds our inner strength.
Stop beating yourself up. Stop immediately. Instead, change your mindset.
1 - You are studying for an MBA to improve your career goals and education.
2 - You recognize that you have put on a wee bit of weight.....but you RECOGNIZE it and are not ignoring it.
3 - Take the next step and start planning.
Look at your meals and see how much protein you are getting. Are you eating every 2-3 hrs, little small meals? Are you planning out your meals and shopping so that you have the ingredients in the house?
I would venture to say that your 'comfort' foods are not the healthiest? Get them out of the house if you dont have the willpower to regulate their intake.
You have taken the first steps....you can follow through. As Nike slogan goes....JUST DO IT.
Check back in a week and let us all know how it is going....and dont forget to get your exercise as well!

Don't stop starting either - eventually you'll start and keep going. I like the "draw a line in the sand" approach as well. Also - the first day is the hardest.
Plus - how hard can an MBA be? It's only a masters degree for heaven's sake - it's not like you're specializing in... or wait - you are... oops... good luck with that! heh heh... oops... ahhh.... walk away slowly...
Seriously, as a person who has spent a LOT of time in university I'll give you this piece of advice - stay away from group work and you'll be fine... especially in marketing classes... (I'm KIND of joking here)...

I am going back to school for my masters also & I know how hard it is to balance school and work (I assume you're working too?). But like patsy says: JUST DO IT. Remember how you lost all that weight before? Just do those things again. Go back to healthy food, counting/weighing/measuring cals and food. Let's me honest, you're not sitting behind the desk 24/7. When you have 20min in the day, go for a run..stay active.
You're going to need to learn to add structure into your new lifestlye. Did you quit wokring out after you lost the weight? I think it's really importanant to stay active all the time...not just during the weight-loss process. That way when you have a slip like lthis, you can adjust a little easier.
Good luck!
I think that there is something about graduate school that has made me gain weight! You are not alone. I myself have gained about 10 - 15 lbs so, 6 kilos since going to grad school. It could be that my metabolism just decided to quit working but, I also have a new comfort food selection of fresh bread and chocolate.... so have you maybe switched to unhealthy snacking lately?
Are you making time for exercise? It is so hard to find the time but, there must be a solution... walking to places, taking the stairs when possible. Does your university have a gym that you can use?
Good luck to you. I think that there should be studies on this phenomena!
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
