My parents sent me a finals "care package" and I'm very thankful it was nice but it consists of a Cup of Noodles (I call it Cup of Sodium Death), poptarts, reeses, cookies, nutter butters, fatty trail mix, soda, Sunny Delight (unhealthy orange juice)...there are a couple reedeeming things like apple sauce, cup of peaches, and a couple granola bars but still!!! What am I going to do with all this in my room?! I DON'T buy the stuff because I don't want to have to stare at it. I feel like I should eat it because my parents bought it for me now I feel bad :(

Ahhhh this is why college students gain weight. They think this is what we need to eat for finals, go figure!

EDIT- I don't buy this trailmix but I'm looking at the calorie content and it's like a small bag of Kirkland, and there's THREE servings in this little bag at 160 calories each! 10 grams of fat! It's just m&ms, peanuts, and almonds! So, don't eat this product :)

Share it with your roomies or dorm mates.
Have a study group and distribute said junk food there.

Or just pass it out amongst roommates/suitemates.

If there's an RA in your suite, it might be a good way to butter her up!  : )
RE-GIFT.  Walk down the hall, shout out, "Free junk food!" and tell each person you thought they'd enjoy the sugar buzz while studying.
Find one of those students that you know is on a super tight budget and offer to share your care package. For them, your Cup of Sodium Death (love the name) is probably a nice late night snack and then you can tell your parents that you shared your care package and they'll feel good, too.

Alternatively, go visit the wrestling/football/any sport team and offer up the goodies to them.
Donate it to a homeless shelter ?
Get rid of it and get over feeling bad. Your parents don't have to know. But do tell them for future reference that you're "watching it."

My mom keeps doing that to me too. I just have to either give it to my friends or roomate, or bring it to organization meetings and offer it up for grabs.

Just getting it out of your room will make you feel better, because then there won't be any temptation!

Why would you be so upset about this? I think its great your parents sent you a nice little package.........Moderation is the key whats wrong with having a couple nutter butters every now and then? You need to learn self control and also learn that its not the end of the world if you eat something fatty or full of sodium every once in a while.

Until I joined this site I have never seen so many young girls obsessing over cals and what they should be eating. College shouldnt be stressing over your next meal if anything you should be more concerned about your grades.

Eat moms stuff a little bit at a time geesh shes not going to do this with you for the rest of your life so take advantage of it I say.
i would have one thing from the package, so i could tell mom and dad that i loved it, and give the rest away. or throw it out.
If there is a student center or a place where people just hang out leave the items sitting on a table around there, it will definetly get eaten there.
I completely understand where you're coming from, I just got my finals' care package yesterday!  Before I left for college I actually made my parents a list of things that I wanted sent to me, like fiber one cereal, fiber bars and pretzels, so I knew that I would get a semi-healthy treat from home.
Donate it to the food bank or homeless shelter.

I specifically tell my mom NOT to send food, especially chocolates, unless I ask for a particular item.

get rid of it..

but more importantly tell your parents you are trying to make healthy food choices and don't want that stuff!!  What parent doesn't want to hear that from their kid?

about the trail mix - most trail mixes are high in calorie/fat.  Eating one serving (measure it out) slowly will really stave off hunger though.  I eat a lot of nuts for protein since I don't eat meat, you just really have to watch portions.

:)

i agree with the homeless shelter idea
How is that a care package? Well, my parents know better i guess. :) I would just give it away.
