Oh, the struggle.

Hello. My name is Lara. I am currently 5'1 and 165 lbs. I work out almost 5 times a week - 2x with a trainer. I have no problem working out, but its food that is a constant struggle. I got my BMI measured and am currently at 31%. Its frustrating to know that as much as I work out, I can't seem to drop the pounds. My goal is to get down to around 130. I have a sweet tooth and on the weekends its extremely difficult to eat healthy. I am trying this website out to monitor what I eat and see how much progress I can make in the summer. I hope to gain support and knowledge from everyone out there! :)

Welcome. If you are already working out then you are on your way. Of course, it really is about diet, but you'll learn a lot here to help.

good luck.

Hi Girl... welcome!  I think you'll find a lot of support here.

When I first started monitoring my calories I didn't lose a pound for 2 months!  I really had a hard time getting the calories down and was hungry all the time.  It wasn't until I found the right (better) combination of fiber, fat and protein specific to me that I stopped being so consistently hungry and adjusted to a calorie deficit.  At that point, the weight began falling off consistently.

This past winter I regained 10 of the 30 lbs I'd lost after a long distance move.  I think I ate my stress.  Regardless, back on the bandwagon and I'm down 4 of the 10.  It can be done!

I find that if I can get myself under control, I find the first 3-7 days challenging but after that, it gets pretty easy.

By the way, I need  between 30-40% of my daily calories to be protein (greek style yogurt contributes a lot), at least 30 grams of fiber (beans are a good source of protein AND fiber), 40-50% calories from carbs (obviously whole grains, vegetables, beans, legumes), and the rest from high quality fats.  I find I'm not too hungry if I manage to split up my diet this way.

Good luck on your journey!
