Who, OH why?!?! Updated with gallery pics to add to my public humiliation

Quote  |  Reply

Since the 15th of December I've lost 12.1 pounds.  I was so pleased with myself and my more slender frame and finding my knees and my chin again I decided I'd reward myself !

I decided I'd reward myself with a haircut.

I'm no longer an emotional eater, but I AM an emotional hair cutter ! Undecided In June I had a miscarriage and I cut my hair from my breasts to my shoulder tops and liked it quite a lot.

So, when I lost this 12.1 pounds I thought " Yeah, your lookin' hot !  You'd look hotter if your hair was shorter, really show off your new found chin !"

You can see where I'm headed with this right?  Now, a non emotional hair cutter would probably stop themselves...but noooo !

I grabbed my trusty haircutting scissors and decided to YES that's right, cut the rest of my hair off.

So, I'm in the bathroom, hair is a'flyin', I mean there is bits of bright red hair every place you look ! And am I happy yet?!?! NOOOOOO! No, I'm not.  SO shorter it goes !

Soon, I am standing in a river of cut hair ( all my own) and with the frenzy of layers and graduations and precision cutting dying,   I turn my gaze from my hair itself to the greater picture of ME in the hair, and what do I see?

.... I see a renaissance page boy standing there ready to brush and saddle up the Lord's horses !

Now, I've been a professional hair cutter for 13 years, I KNOW what's gonna look good and what isn't on OTHER people...

I think sadly, I am one of those fatties that see themselves as thinner then I really am.  I also think that's how I allowed myself to get so big.  My inner self still felt thin and so I perceived myself as being more slender.

So, in my own round about way I have motivated myself to keep on loosing so that this shorter bob will look better on me.

At the end of the night, all I could do was laugh at myself and ask my adorable hubby if he'd "Ever had fantasies of doin' it with a renaissance page boy"

BTW- though I am an emotional hair cutter on my own head, I've never been an emotional hair cutter on a clients head.. heheWink

I added pics to my gallery so you can see why, I ask myself why....hehe

Does a page boy cut really look good on anyone?  I had one as a kid for years and always got mistaken for a boy.  I do love the cute little elfin cuts that a lot of women are sporting these days, but my ears would freeze.

It's not really a page boy, it's just a chin lenght bob, below the ears and graduated.

But when I looked at myself, my hair all disheveled, and my being tall, all I could think of was page boy ! Hehehe.

Do you have the chain mail bikini to go with?  Wink  If so, watch where some of those links go!

Ah yes, I do this too.

Before you know it, your hair will be longer. Probably healthier too. Since you're improving your health your new hair will come in better.

When I receive comments about my frequent and drastic hair changes I respond by saying "for a girl, hair is just another accessory".

Well, I think your haircut looks really cute!

It looks more like a bob to me. :D It will grow out soon!

I think it looks cute!

I love what you said!!! " think sadly, I am one of those fatties that see themselves as thinner then I really am.  I also think that's how I allowed myself to get so big.  My inner self still felt thin and so I perceived myself as being more slender."

Wow I have gained 45 pounds in the last 2 years and until I went shopping and saw myself in the mirror, I still felt thin!!! Despite that fact that bending over to do something as simple as tying a shoe lace was a major contortionist act, I felt thin!!! To go from a size 6 to 18 and I still felt thin??? So weird!!!

Not anymore!!! BTW  I think your hair looks cute- no worries and change can be good thing!!!

What was his answer?

hair looks cute!  cut the back super short and you'll have the trendy angled look and look less like a page too :P

Actually, the only "page-y" thing about it is the part down the middle haha!  Short hair is great!  You can completely change your look by moving your part or making your bangs go to the side for a day.  I can't wait to cut mine short again!

I have curly hair to the middle of my back all one length... that is until I thought I could pull off the straight bangs angled over my face... ha

That was a joke I hate them, not to mention everyone at my work say I look just like my sister who doesn't even attempt to fix her hair. (she works there too) but she has bangs fuzzy hanging over her face.and not to mention she i 7 years older than me..

I honestly thought I would look younger you know like the teenagers who have bangs. it is comical, but like everyone says it will grow back.

Anyway enough of a rant. I do think It looks cute.

Based on your post I was expecting something horrible, but I think it looks cute too!!!  I myself made the mistake of thinking I could pull off bangs (a Reece Witherspoon kind of look) and I just looked like an idiot!!!  Fortunately it's hair and it grows :)  Congrats on your weight loss and your new incentive to lose more!!

ahaha oh your too funny. Not at all page boy. Love your color too. I kept thinking more like fryer tuck hair cut or something. lol  I think It looks good on you. It deff works especially with the color.

I think it looks lovely, myself! And this is from someone who has been many lengths and shades (including pillarbox red, blue, and bright purple)! What I do know is that it takes a little adjusting to ANY new haircut, so give it a little while, yes? Congratulations on your loss so far. Also, at the end of the night, all I could do was laugh at myself and ask my adorable hubby if he'd "Ever had fantasies of doin' it with a renaissance page boy" - that made me giggle. :D

I love the cut, I must weird Laughing I agree with another poster, if you cut the back shorter it will be more "trendy" if thats the look you meant to go for.

I think it came out really cute (the color is pretty awesome too)!

At the end of the night, all I could do was laugh at myself and ask my adorable hubby if he'd "Ever had fantasies of doin' it with a renaissance page boy"

That cracked me up, I've done that too ended up with a haircut that looked like the little boy on paintcans (I believe its dutchboy)

I think it looks fantastic!! It suits you well and the color is great!! love it - you just need to get used to a change... you say it was emotional - consider it an emotional realization and this haircut marks a "begining" or "end" for you!

This is one of those "perfect mistakes" in my opinion - even though I never saw what your hair looked like before, your facial features need to be accentuated!

I LOVE it!! I love the cut and the color. I think you looking amazing. I like your piercing too!

sereniticat - I think it looks really cute! (And this is one of the most fun posts i've read so far) I am also a hairstylist. I would like your cut in a little darker shade of red or maybe a dark golden brown. I like short bobs in dark colors, for some reason. Just a thought.

I used to do the same thing with my hair but now I only trust my former manager to cut my hair AT ALL, instead of doing it myself, not liking it, then getting her to change it for me (the baseline's hard to do on yourself - how did you?)

It looks really good though. And you could also take this opportunity to get lots of volume out of it while it's easier (cuz it's shorter). Lots of upward airforming and some teasing at the crown and -voila- you've got the "trendy" angled look for a day without more chopping!  Congrats on the weight loss, too!

I love it! I think your haircut looks very saucy and cool. The color is also brilliant and looks fantastic with your eyes. No idea what it looked like before, but I don't think you should be humiliated at all! It's still very feminine...I was expecting more of a Julie Andrews super short man cut.
