So, I've been on the "pill" since early summer...and I've gained 30lbs!  Well gaining weight was a combination of things really.  But I asked my doctor if the pill makes you gain weight..her response was, "no, it doesn't physically put pounds on you, it just ups your appetite and makes you crave things more."  well, to me thats the same thing as just putting pounds on me! haha.  This is mostly just a warning to girls, if you are gonna go on the pill, prepare to gain some weight!

anyone else experience this??

Mine kind of went in cycles...I gained at first then lost.  When I hit 30, I gained again.  Managed to drop the weight.  Now it's back again.  I can't say for certain that it is the Pill, but even if so, I'd rather work harder at dropping the pounds than have my period last 2-3 weeks! :o)
I wanna gain weight, maybe I should try... hehe, joking. But yeh, it also does somethin' to your hormones too I think.
I was on the Pill for about a year and a half and while on it I would binge eat on average around twice a week.  Binging to me equated eating for example 5 cookies after I had already eaten 8 and felt sick from the 8.  I didn't know what was causing the binges but decided to go off the Pill to see what would happen about three months ago.  I have not had a binge since.  I've also noticed I now have the ability to stop eating when I am satisfied as opposed to when I'm full.  My cravings are definetly down.

Just my experience with the Pill!
thats funny cuz when i was on the pill it made me so sick all the time. i never had an appetite for anything so i hardly ate at all.  didnt lose any, but didnt gain any either.
That scares me, because I was thinking about starting on it... but I don't want to gain again!
*eh* ive been on it for...quite some time..4 years or so

no weight gain from the pill ( i was at a steady weight for the first 2 of those years...haha)

honestly, it depends on the brand/type of hormones and how your body reacts to it...everybody is different

im on seasonale now...*eh* never had an issue..
As skye said, every body will react differently to different pills.

However, when I switched pills (due to my other one causing acne), the lady who prescribed it was telling me that no studies have actually proven that the pill causes weight gain.  However, many people still claim it does, so you kind of have to just try for yourself.

For me, I didn't experience any weight gain with either (ortho-trycyclin lo and now yaz)
I've been on the pill for about 2 years.  My most major concern was weight gain, but my doctor assured me that pills on today's market have come pretty far from "our mother's birth control"...

I haven't gained from birth control pills.... I gained from eating McDonalds every day.  Which in no way was a craving I experienced from being on birth control.

I'm not saying that everyone's body will react in the same way, its just my personal experience.

I did go through a phase of EXTREMELY painful and mood swing filled (mood swing is not the word, more like moments of possession by the devil) periods after starting the pill, though.  Those have seemed to subside, and I make sure that I slightly increase my calcium levels the week before my period, and take some b-vitamins to help with my mood- and its a bit more managable.
I've found that if I stay on the lowest doseage allowable for me, my symtoms of any sort are way less. (And I've pretty much been on them for 15 years.)  Not much longer and I'll hit the big "M" and no more periods.  Yeah! Mom, aunts and Grandma all went through menopause in their early 40's.  Sounds silly, I know, but I'm ready to be done.  :o)
I just started the pill again, and I talked at length with my doctor on this one.  She said if Im really diligent about working out and eating right I wont gain weight.  But its the combination of mood swings and hormones and headache that would normally make me run for the junk food, so it makes sense that if Im REALLY dedicated to living healthy, that I wont gain weight.
I started going on the pill at 18 (I'm 25 now).

I don't believe that the pill made me gain weight, it was being comfortable with my boyfriend. Ordering out every night - sitting down and not doing anything, going to mcdonald's at 3 in the morning...my boyfriend gained weight too (and he's obviously not on the pill! LOL)

I'm pretty sure that it's how your body responds to the pill. Some girls don't gain, others gain a lot...

I just started a new pill called Yaz two months ago, it is a low hormone version of Yasmin. In the past I used Ortho-Tri Cyclin and I think it messed with my hormones made me more emotional which in turn caused me to eat more and gain weight. HOwever on this new pill I find that I havnt gained any weight. They claim that Yaz is a diuretic so you arent as bloated as you are on other pills. Since I have started to exercise and diet I have actually lost weight and I feel that  Yaz doesnt have any effect either way. I also have found that it also doesnt cause me to be emotional like I was on Ortho-Tri Cyclin or Ortho-Tri Cyclin lowwhich allows me to control what I put in my mouth.
I never gained weight due to the pill and I've been on it for 13 years.
i was on the pill for about a year. i made me insane.  like PMS was so aweful.   I did seem to gain weight, like 10 lbs when I was on it.  however, i think it was just coincidence as i was away at university that year, binging a lot on food and alcohol.  and i had to work hard to lose those 10 lbs gained after i went off the pill.
I've been on 4 or 5 different types to get the right one since I was 12.  I suffer from horrible periods that would prevent me from getting out of bed for 2 days, I missed school often.

Most of the other ones didn't cause weight gain, but I think the one I'm on right now isn't helping in that area! I don't want to give it up, my cramps are tolerable all days, I'm light, and I don't really pms that bad.
I went on the pill about 7 years ago and noticed within several months that my chest and hips gained weight.  It was almost like a second puberty.  Since then I have gained weight all over, which I attribute mostly to poor diet and lack of exercise.  Just be careful, because if you have a family history of high cholesterol, you may want to get it checked after being on the pill for a while.  The increased levels of estrogen in your system can increase your cholesterol.  Per my doctor, the Nuva Ring is absorbed differently into the body and does not have to pass through the liver, thus it does not affect your cholesterol.  I take Seasonale, as it is a three month regimen and I only get my period once every 30 months.  My doctor said that you can take Nuva Ring like this as well and has suggested I get my cholesterol checked to ensure that the Seasonale is not affecting my levels.  Just something else to worry about!  Hope it is helpful!
3 months...not 30 months...sorry ;)
