This oil takes up to 4 punds of the belly in 4 months!!!

Yes REALLY!  There is even a scientific experiment from a qualified university to back it up.   It is safflower oil.   Ohio State University did an experiment on several women who were post menapausal and had diabetes.   The women took 1 and 2/3 teaspoons of the oil per day for 26 weeks. They did not change thier diet or they way they exercise. They lost 2 to 4 inches from thier waist!  :)

Here is the link:

They were also took CLA.  But at a different time period.  Since CLA is found in high fat foods, then I am more interested in the safflower oil.  I had found some safflower mayo at the store the other day, and was looking it up to see if it had Omega 3's when I came across this article.  It has Omega 6, but hey, if it trims the waist then ok!! :)

Is anyone interested in trying this?  I am interested in starting a group of both men and women to see what the results would be in 4 months. I suppose  persons with alot of fat around the middle....kinda like me! hehehe

Somone pointed out that I misread the article.  It is 2 to 4 pounds of belly fat, not 2 to 4 inches.  I cut my caffine down to about 1/4  recently.  Bear with me! :)

From the article: "The newest study from Ohio State University researchers showed that women who simply took safflower oil supplements for sixteen weeks, lost 2-4 pounds of belly fat and lowered blood sugar levels an average of 11 to 19 points" No mention of 2-4 inches lost.

2-4 lbs of belly fat lost is nice, but over 16 weeks that's hardly phenomenal weight loss. Including safflower oil in your diet is a fine idea, but it won't be a substitute for eating well and exercising.

ETA: I followed the link at the bottom of the article you sent, and found this: "The dietary oils did not have significant effects on other health measurements, such as waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio and skinfold thickness measures of body fat, Belury noted."

It's been shown that people participating in health-related research tend to subconsciously eat better and exercise more because they are more aware of their health. That's probably enough to explain the small average weight loss.

If that oil really provided magical weight loss, we'd all know about it by now. Sorry, but there's no quick fix - eating better and moving more are the only ways to lose weight from your body, rather than just your wallet.

I'd have to see the actual study.  What you linked is a commercial website promoting this method.  It may or may not be true.  We have to be very careful when we find information on the internet.  If you can link the actual study, or an abstract, it would be more helpful.  I'm willing to bet that they were on a lower calorie diet as well as using this oil.

By the way, advertisement and self promotion are against the posting guidelines, just in case that's what you're doing here.  If you are not, then sorry to have mentioned it.  If the shoe fits, take it somewhere else.

The study was also very specific in targeting "postmenopausal diabetic women".  Unless you happen to fall into that category, you may not want to choke down straight oil.  Blech!  But it was less than a couple teaspoons per day, so I guess it's not a big deal either way.

Here's a link to the Ohio State University article about the study.  I always find this stuff interesting;  we can always quibble with results and methodology of course.

mehh just stick to the tried and true

eat healthy and exercise ! hahah

Ok, well I found the article in a medical journal I was reading someplace.  So I came home and did a websearch and that is the first article I found.  :)  So no self promotion of any  kind here, I mean you can buy safflower oil any where.

Safflower oil has plenty of vitaimen e, 20% RDA for 1 tsp.   Also it is loaded with Omega 6 fats wich have several health benefits.  So although I am not in the post menapausal dibetic group I would try it anyway.

I am lowering my caloric intake and planning to start doing strength and aerobic training.   Altough I am overweight it's only around 20 pounds.  I am close to the top end of my BMI, but not over.  The only thing that really bothers me is that I put the weight mostly around the mid section.   My hip to waist ratio is currently .89.   If I could improve that, then I would be happy, no matter how much I weighed.  I am really doing all of this for the long term health benifits and not so much how I look.  (I mean I admit I am tired of the mini muffin top and would like to see that go! lol) So I figured if there was something as simple as taking some oil each day that could help me accomplish that goal, then why not try? I have heard that belly fat is the hardest to get off  and thinking this might help a little.  If it doesn't, it doesn't,  I still got some benifit from it as the oils will help my dry skin out a bit. :)

P.S. 2 to 4 pounds is alot different than 2 to 4 inches. :(  But it is the "bad fat" that is coming off... or so the researchers think.  I will take it! :D

I actually take it.  Have for about 3 years.  I did a bit of research on it when I first started taking it and found out that CLA is pretty good if taking the right kind of isolates.

It is said to be a MAJOR anti carcinogen as well as boosting toning/slimming benefits to your waist line. I have also read that although it doesn't do anything to major as far as that goes it does help a little and is said to help prevent weight gain back in the area.

I went from 300 to 175 and had a waist of about 46 at 300, 28 at 175.  When I was 275 the first time around I had a waist of 44.  I gained weight back due to letting myself go over a hectic schedule, and new baby taking all my exercise time and not bothering to eat right or take proper vitamins.  So over the last year I hadnt dieted or exercised, and had stopped talking CLA about Jan 2008.

I weighed myself earlier this wek at 286 and I still only have size 40 waist.

Well that is significant!  It seems you gained weight back, but you kept it off the mid section.  So even though you are overweight again you are still healthier than you were!!  And really that's what it's all about in my opinion.  I mean if people could be overweight and healthy then I suppose it wouldn't be such a big deal right?

So thanks for sharing that! Laughing I didn't realize you could get the CLA suppliments.  I saw that it comes from beef, eggs, and dairy.  Well I am lactose intolerant, and the beef has alot of fat.  The amount of eggs I was eating before wasn't healthy at all! lol  So I was thinking that I just reduced these bad foods in my diet, so better try the safflower oil wich is fat, but good fat.  I got some safflower oil mayonaise at the store.   I eat mayonaise on my tuna and chicken salads.  So I figured I would just incorporate that into my diet and see how it goes.  That's the reason I was wondering if someone else would try it with me, so I could see if that was enough.   But I discovered something else about myself.......I have been eating FAR too much mayo!   Probably about 2 TABLESPOONS per serving of chicken salad! That's an extra 600 calories!   that stuff is 100 calories per TSP and 100 calories from fat!!  Even the light Mayo is around 45 calories per TSP 35 from fat!!!  So I figure I have to cut back on that as well.  The CLA suppliments might be in my best interests after all then? hmmmmm???? Something else to ponder.
