what is okra?

what is okra and what does it taste like? is it good?

It tastes bland and it's better when prepared with some tomato or curry sauce -;-)

This is a hard question. It's kind of bland for the most part, but it really depends on your tastes and how you cook it. For me, I like it stewed meals and only stewed meals, and I enjoy them because they have a bland taste since they are not the centerpiece of my meal.

It also tends to a certain... sliminess that some find unappetizing. But it can be really good if prepared correctly (like a lot of foods, I suppose)

It’s good when breaded and fried but the tomato thing *shudder*

Really its personal preference thing, you love it or hate it.

I had it in a soup once and found it slimey.  I'll stay away from it from now on.

I love fried okra only to also discover no to the comman okra in tomato sauce.  Also love fried catfish and realize I dont love either of them, I love fried cornbread coating.  Shouldve known! 

True the sliminess which doesnt bother those who like okra.  It can be found in gumbo soup and I found it peculiar who the sliminess causes the liquid to kind of cling to the sides of the bowl.

i make mine with egg-whites in the microwave

It's AMAZING.

lol, I just had some with an egg white and broccoli for dinner :)

I just steam it in the microwave with a little spray butter, no salt.
