57 year old female needs buddies to help lose 40 lbs

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone.  I am a 57 year old female from Virginia.  I quit smoking in 2001 and started packing on the pounds.  All of a sudden I saw myself and very overweight.  A 5'2" body can't hold 170 lbs.

I never seem to gain in my legs, hips or arms.  All my weight goes to my tummy and bust.  I need help!!!

Buddies and support.

Where in Virginia, Connie? :) I'm from the Fairfax area myself. :)

Welcome to Calorie-Count.com. I'm sure you'll be able to find the buddies you need. :)

I added you as a friend. You are a few months younger than me, Wink

I have the BMI and BMR information posted in my journal that is used to calculate calories burned and will help with the math if needed.

Hi Connie,

I have just rejoined here today.  I am sure I will be among the hoards that want to get healthy in 2008.  I am 54 and want to lose 60 pounds.  That is almost 1 third of my weight.  I can't beleive it.  I would love a buddy or two so I am adding you to my friends and hope we can help motivate each other.  I am just browsing this site and then need to go grocery shopping.  I threw out the rest of my Xmas baking and need to give the random candies and chocolates to my daughter before the day is out.

Bev, Ontario Canada

I live in Harrisonburg.  Home of JMU.  Actually I am around 2 hours Southwest of D.C.

I need a buddy to help me get going on this.  Need to figure how how to add you to my buddy list.

I would like to add you as a buddy too...just don't know how....

Hi!  I'm also 57 and I would love to talk and help. I also need some motivation.  Right now I have a son who is back from overseas and needs some support - I work full time and am setting up a part-time business from home AND helping my elderly parents who live in two separate households - so time (or lack of it) is a major problem for me now - but it can be overcome!

Have a great New Year!

I Connieva:  We seem to have the exact same numbers:  5'2'' - 170 lbs.  In my teen years I was so skinny that I suffered a lot because of it...  I haven't been able to enjoy my ideal weight for a long time.  Now it's the reverse.  I too will wellcome buddies so that we can motivate and encourage each other.  I will add your name as a CC twin if you don't mind.  LOL.

I wish you the very best in 2008.   Loumi2

We're close. I'm 55...5'2 and 150 or so. I weighed 197 at one time. Went down to 135 on the Atkins but wasn't healthy and was still flabby. Hoping this time to do it right. It's great to be able to talk to others thru this.  WE CAN DO IT!!!!
Hi connieva:  I'm in Virginia as well - Middlesex County near Deltaville.  I've actually got a thread in Motivation looking for fellow Virginians and have had a bunch of people respond from all over Virginia.  Various ages, weights, etc. all with one goal in mind - losing weight!!!  I just turned 50 - was 212 when I started Oct 07 and today I'm 191.2 (got myself one of those uppity modern scales that does decimal points...LOL)  I'm 5'6" or I was - haven't done my height in quite a while.  And I'm kind of the opposite because most of my weight is in my legs and hips.  It's only since I had back surgery and hit middle age that I have actually put it on in my abdomen and waist.  Never really had much up top as far as cup size (sorry you guys out there) but I'm very broad across the back and wide shoulders so I wear a 42.  really hard to find a 42 B!!!!

Hi Connieva!  I'm 55, live in Kentucky, and have 40 pounds to lose!  I'd like to be friends...... we need all the help and support we can get, right?

We're gonna do it this time!

well hello to you Connieva. i'm 51, 5'5" at 181. right in line with everyone else it seems, nice to know that i'm not the only one struggling and choosing to change. i quit smoking a month ago--yeahhhhh! i too was very small in my youth and just blew up. knees and ankles are suffering as well as the emotional attitudes. but, hopefully this is the time!!!

 WE ALL CAN DO IT!!!!!!

hey all,

I too am here in the small town of gloucester va.  My last year resolution was to stop smoking (yeah one year on the 2nd cold turkey) and for the first few months, I gained nothing.  Well that didnt last long!  Now I sit here at 180 and seem to be rising.  It seems like in less then 3 months I have the urge to eat all the time....like every 5 minutes...hot flashes that I have NOT had before.....and peeing on myself all the time. HAHAHAHA!  Well guess it is NOW to get this weight off.  Hope to have you all to keep my butt focused and stay on target.

thanks

Geee I always wanted to have a brother or sister and now I have a TWIN.  LOL

I love having all these budies.  Yesterday was the first day of my calorie counting.  By the looks of things I went a little over 1,500.  Really can't complain because it looks like before I must have been eating around 3,000 or MORE.

Today I have a better handle of calories.  I bought the book Calorie King and had a real eye opening.

I tried to get more water down but still short for the day.

Hi Connieva---I am just starting out here too (Happy New Year!)  It is amazing how all the things we eat in the course of a day add up.  I have been guilty of too many "BLTs" over the holidays (Bites, Licks, and Tastes!Wink)  I commend you for quitting smoking--that is probably the best thing you can do for your overall health.  I would like to add you as a support buddy---together we can kick butt (or at least get rid of some of it!   lol)  I, too, have 40-50 lbs to lose.....seems daunting but nice to know that there is support here when you need it.  Best wishes for a happy (and thinner) 2008----Karen
Hi connieva:  How's it going?  Now that things are settling down after the holidays, hopefully you're feeling a little more comfortable about the decision to count calories.
The counting calories is so much easier than I thought it was going to be.  Giving up carbs was kind of hard but by not eating carbs I don't get so hungry.  It's amazing how I now feel full all the time.

I will be your buddy!

God bless youCool
