Hey, I was wondering what some of you ate for after school snacks?  I want to experiment on new things that are healthy and delicious!  I was also wondering of some different healthy breakfasts... Any suggestions?

Thanks!  Now what about lunch (to take to school)?  Usually I take a salad, Jello or yogurt, and a Special K Bar or carrots...  But I really want to make it a little different every day!

Carry some milk and a piece of fruit also.

Now to my next subject... LOL.  What are some good things to do to stay active.  I play tennis a lot, but when it is raining I don't have any other alternative exercise because the only thing I know how to do is tennis!  I am also trying to improve my flexibility because I can barely touch my toes )': .

Is Dance Dance Revolution good exercise?  I can play it on a hard level because I've practiced a lot.

Yea, Thats Great.

well, I'm not 13, but it was only 7 years ago... wow. when did I get old? :(

Anyways, when I was 14 I started doing some pilates to get more flexible for cheerleading, and it worked wonders!

Running is nice since you don't really need any equipment, is a great work-out and since in high school your fitness tests will most likely be running laps, why not get some practice in and get a nice A+ in gym? =P

I started lifting weights around 12-13 ish. But, if you do decide to do weights, keep it light. Since you're still growing its a bad idea to go too heavy, and be sure to have someone who knows what they are doing help you out.

Tennis sounds like a great workout :) volleyball and badminton are similar (err... far as i know) so maybe try picking up one of those?
Thanks!  Did you go to a Pilates place, or did you just do it at home?  How long did you do Pilates for (how many days/hour/etc.)?  I found some old Pilates books that my mom has, and some videos too, even though I don't know if they are any good...

I want to start lifting weights too, so I can get more muscles in my arms for tennis.  Last year I couldn't even do one pushup, but I worked realy hard in the summer, and now I can do some!  The most I've done is 20 in a row... Not perfect but better than 0!
I used videos since there was nowhere nearby to take classes. I imagine classes would be way better though! Not sure about books though. I did about 90 minutes a week, in 2-3 sessions, and lots of crunches on days aside from that.

I have a cheese stick after school.

Always, it fills me up until dinner.

I eat Carrots or oatmeal...those foods always fill me up until dinner or just as a night snack they're good too ....i get hungry just thinking of them! LOL!

sounds like my forte.. I am the QUEEN of after school snacks!
let's seee...

-small bowl of oatmeal
-apple w/ peanut butter
-sauteed veggies w/ shrimp
-cottage cheese, however you like it [verrryy filling]
-string cheese
-pretzels
-popcorn
-veggies with dip/fruit salad with yogurt
-homemade turkey chili
-small or 1/2 turkey sandwich loaded w/ veggies
-egg white omelette

guess that's sufficient.

PLAIN yogurt with FRESH fruit that YOU add in yourself (not that sweetened fruit on the bottom crap)

air-popped popcorn

beef jerky

peanuts

a big crunchy dill pickle

fruit, whatever kind you like

carrot/celery sticks

For a special treat, try fresh fruit dipped in sugar-free Jello pudding. It's like fondue!

Other ideas:
-hummus on pita bread
-canned or home made soup
-Satsuma oranges
-BLT sandwich
-fruit salad
-vegetables dipped in salsa
-popcorn (season it yourself with spices)

At 13, you really do not need to be worrying about what you eat. I mean, "eating healthy" is good, but you need to ensure that you are getting enough nutrients, protein, fats, and all of the other essentials for growth at this stage in your life. Even some of the bad stuff is good for you. You've only recently become a "teen" and still have many years to go, so don't get consumed with watching everything you eat. Really..

But, as far as after school snacks go, I don't usually need them anymore, believe it or not. I am in college so I get home before lunch and don't really require anything more until around 3pm or so when I grab some fruit or pretzels. I can't really give you good advice in regards to my middle and high school years, because i'm sure I was not eating "healthy" foods by anyone's standards - I don't think that is abnormal either.

As far as breakfast, I tend to enjoy english muffins, cereal, fruit, eggs, or things of that sort. I usually try to have a decent sized breakfast to carry me through the morning. Good luck.
