P.S. Try to eat lots of veggies and fruits to fill you up!!
My suggestion would be to read up on Low GI diet principles. I too was someone that felt eternally hungry until understanding quite the link between sugar, starch, alcohol, blood-sugars, insulin levels and hunger pangs! By changing to Low GI foods, balancing my meals around lots of vegetables and cutting most of the sugars, starches, alcohol & junk out of my diet I have found that the hunger pang problem is much reduced.
My second suggestion would be to keep an accurate food diary, weighing and measuring everything you eat for a week or two and totting up the calories. Bottom line.... being overweight usually involves eating too much. For example. Weigh out 50g dry pasta and see how big it is both on the scales and when cooked on the plate. Compare that with what you'd normally cook and serve yourself. If your serving size would normally be bigger then you just have to trim it back.
As for exercise... Don't think you have to 'bust your buns' at the gym doing something strenuous! Start gently with a daily walk and build up from there. A half hour walk a day is very effective at getting your body burning fat more quickly. Using the stairs instead of the lift, walking instead of taking the car, not watching TV for more than 1 hour a day.... every little helps.
Check my profile for more details, but in a nutshell I'm 53 and just lost 100 lbs. So I think that you can probably get in shape at any age. 36 is FOR SURE not too old!
Good luck with your weight loss - and remember to WALK. If you do nothing else, just walk. At first it might be hard - don't push it. Take it easy and slowly increase the time and distance. After a while (perhaps a couple of weeks to a month) you will find yourself increasing the distance and you'll start to feel better, and the pounds will start to come off. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
I sure hope not, cause I've got you by a few years. I've already lost 10 pounds, with about 27 left to go. The exercise gets better, as you keep it up you will feel stronger and not so sore.
I'd add more, but basically it's a seond of all that gi-jane said. It's definitely not too late to get healthier!!!
exercise is harder, yes, but that's good - it means you're burning more calories!
do you eat breakfast? like, religiously? you should. also, i'm always hungry after exercise. i need something within 30 minutes. the key is that "something" doesn't have to be a big meal, and "very hungry" doesn't mean you need a lot of food. small meals and snacks can be just as satisfying as plates full of food. don't deprive yourself - just think small.
I'm 54 years young and lost 27 pounds so far, with over 45 to go. Its harder yes. A lot of people here can attest to the worthwhile effort however. Be good to yourself and be encouraged by the help you can get at this site.
36?? Too OLD???
You're kidding me right?
And if you're hungry ... mebbe you need to listen to your body and have a small healthy, low cal snack. Or chew gum or something.
I think you just need a positive attitude adjustment though - which only you can do - but at least you're here - that's a great first step.
You CAN do this. You are YOUNG enough to do whatever you like - please - you're never too old to do anything. You can do whatever you like - just put your mind to it and tell yourself every day you CAN do this. You deserve this. You WILL get there.
No, you are not too old. Let us know your stats so we can give some help.
The first thing I would suggest is "baby steps". You can do it little by little. For example, pick one thing today that you can change. Lets say replace soda with water and lemon.
Just think, after you lose the weight you will probably feel younger!
Take care!
Hell, No!!! I will be 39 next month and I have lost nearly 20 pounds since January. It is harder for us than the younger bucks, but it is not that hard! I saw a lady on here just today that is/was near 70, and I know there are plenty in their 60's too. I am impressed by these women who are still trying to live life to its fullest....if they can do it, so can we!
