15 Years old in need of a weight loss partner

Quote  |  Reply

I have had trouble with my weight since the fourth grade when I got a blood disease called ITP and had to be put on multiple medications to keep from ultimately dying. Now that I am fifteen I am really starting to feel the effects of being overweight like not being able to do sports, date guys that I want to date, or wear a bikini without feeling self concious. I dont think I can lose my goal of 45 pounds by myself and would really like to have someone to be there for me when I need support. I will be there for you too. Laughing

Starting Weight: 175

End Goal: 130

Any Takers?

I'm 15, and 175 right now.  I was 198 when I started, and my goal is ~129.  I'd love to be your weight loss partner! ^_^

Great! I would like to reach somewhere in that area too! How long have you been trying to lose? I am just starting my diet and workout plan. What foods do you eat that help you?

I've been counting calories since January, but I've taken a couple weekend breaks.  I eat, well... what I like.  I've found it's pretty easy for me to get close to the ideals for teen nutrition without forcing down stuff I don't like.  I try to aim for at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, usually more, too.  I do drink a lot unsweetened, decaf tea, though.  I don't really work out at all. ^^;

I try to do my best counting calories, but sometimes that cake just sounds so good. haha. I drink alot of tea too, but I dont have the willpower to just drink unsweetened, I have to have sweet tea, but 1 good thing is that now I found diet sweet tea, 0 calories of deliciousness. I try to eat alot of fruits and veggies too. I usually have a grapefruit or a fruit smoothie with fiber powder for breakfast and for lunch I have a salad with no dressing or sauteed mushrooms and onions. And for dinner I always have atleast 1 side veggie. 1 bad thing about me dieting, I love carbs. I could live on pasta and bread, but I know that they are terrible for trying to lose weight.

I was looking at your profile and saw that you live in Florida. I do too, just north of Daytona! What part of Florida do you live in?

I know what you mean.  I made some awesome apple rhubarb cake yesterday, it's soooo good.  But it's pretty rich, so one 150 cal piece is all I need.

I didn't really care for unsweetened at first, but I started just getting it when I was out, at restaurants or festivals and stuff, and eventually I just adapted to it.  I really like it now.  My parents have always been sweet tea addicts, but they make it with 1 - 2 cups of sugar per pitcher.  Definitely not good. XD

I wouldn't say bread and pasta are bad!  I make spaghetti for dinner all the time, it's my fall-back when I don't feel like cooking, 'cause it's pretty much the only thing everyone in the family likes.  The important thing to remember, I think, is that it's not a diet.  It's a lifestyle change, so if you love something, you can't give it up.  Because why would you want to live without it forever when you can just incorporate it into your diet?

My diet isn't really consistent.  I don't have any staples other than spaghetti and stuffed pitas as dinners, everything's always changing.

I live in Bay County, a few blocks from the bayou.

What's your daily calorie target?

honey i understand how u feel about ur weight. unfortunately there isnt any shortcuts to loosing weight. however a very fast and guaranteed way is to cut off sugar, carbs e.g. chocolate, pasta, potatoes and bread. its ok to consume more protein as these wont be stored as fat so u can always have high protein meal without any carbs. if u dont like to work out, that's fine however a vy vy effective way to start is just to take a daily walk of at least 20 mins. after one week, once u feel more active due to fat loss, im sure u'll start to enjoy taking longer walks!

another vy vy important thing here: its ok to eat more during lunch but no matter what, try not to consume more than 600 kcal during dinner becos its less likely that's u'll get to burn the calories at night compared to during daytime!

Hi! I'm fifteen too. I used to be 185 pounds--struggled with my weight for most of my life--and reached my goal of 130 in March. I just wanted to wish you the best of luck! Cut down the desserts as much as you possibly can, work out lightly, and slowly reduce your portion size. You'll be at your goal in no time!

Actually, protein can be stored as fat.  Protein contains calories, just like fat, carbohydrates, and alcohol.  There are 7 calories in a gram of alcohol, 4 calories in a gram of carbohydrates, 9 calories in a gram of fat, and 4 calories in a gram of protein.  Too many calories, even if they're from protein, can be turned into fat...

It doesn't really matter when you consume your calories (source here, #10).  Your body doesn't stop making your heart beat, your lungs breath, and your blood flow just because you're asleep.  It's still burning calories, constantly.  In fact, if you look up your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), it will give you the number of calories you would burn in a day if you slept all day. =/

My daily target is 1750 calories a day. Sometimes I can stay within those limits but sometimes I way over exceed them. Today I got a very prestigious award at school, and my family being unaware of my dieting took me to get a blizzard at Dairy Queen. (NOT A GOOD THING) And I realize that it is a lifestyle change but I dont think that I can totally change my lifestyle for this.

I will start to elongate my walks, because I take my (overweight) dog for a walk atleast 3 times a day and I'm sure that she will appreciate it too. :)

Thank you all for your welcomes. :D

Congrats on the award. :) And walking 3 times a day, that's definitely an accomplishment.

I don't really like blizzards, and definitely don't think they're worth the calories. >.<  I think a small has close to 600 calories, and soft serve is sooo not worth it.  Marble Slab Creamery all the way. ;3

How tall are you, if you don't mind me asking?

5'2 and a half
