54 Years Old, Needing to lose more then my age
Hi Folks,
I am looking for some of the post menopausal ladies that need to lose 60 pounds plus. I am only 5 foot 2 and need to lose about 60 pounds. I find I have no energy and my knees are starting to ache. Add on that I can't sleep straight through the night and you wonder why I have waited (weighted??) so long. I tried this in the summer and didn't stick with it so hope I can last this time. Anyone that would like to be friends on this journey are gratefully welcome. I won't promise to talk everyday, though I'll try but would like to touch base a few times a week to keep each other motivated and honest.![]()

Hi beaverly ( love the name) I've been here exactly 1 week and I love the concept.
I'm a 55 (56 in March) yr old Granny from Ireland and have gone through the big M myself, well I think I have, I still get the occassional sleepless night and unexplainable "sweat" (horrible) but am on the up. Like you I've had the warning signs with the knees. CC says I should lose 91 lbs but I'm aiming for a more realistic 68 lbs (I've never weighed 131 lbs in my adult life) with my mini goal being 28lbs before May 14th when I travel to California to meet my new grandchild (due on or around 10th May) and I hate travelling and having to squeeze myself into those horrible, economy, slimline aircraft seats for 14 hrs.
If you feel like adding me as a friend I would be honoured and will try and help you (and me, (selfishly)) on this new journey to being slimmer and even more beautiful than we already are
.
Good luck, Dess
Hi Bev
I am 54 and need to lose 80 lbs. I have gone through WW 4-5 times and it works when I follow it and write everything done. I am trying this as something different and so far it looks like it could be very helpful. My goal is to be FIT by 55! I have one year to do that since I just had a birthday. Discipline is the key - Discipline to control eating and do the exercising! I refer to it as the BIG D!
Wishing you the best and also all the others that have replied to you in the same boat!
Together we can do this!

Hello!
We're did everybody go? I'm still here. Treading water....gulp...gulp...
I was slowly creeping up in my calorie intake and declining my cardio. Good thing for CC and the logs. I guess I'm a life logger or Log Lady.....
I hope everyone is on the path to being healthy, wealthy, and wise!
Marie
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site. I am 53 post men (lol) and have quite a bit of weight to lose. Let's say around 130. So my first mini goal is 26 lbs. I weigh 268, I am 5'4 inches Prayer, that's all I can ask for.
Welcome jfk1908, your not alone. We are all in the same boat whether you have 130 pounds to lose or 60, weight loss is not easy for any of us. We are all here to support each other and help each other through the tough times and help become more aware of our food options and exercise. I have 134 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight.
I have added you to my friend list and would be happy to hear about your progress.
Karen
Hi Beaverly,
I am 47 and have 60lbs + to lose/shed, losing weight somehow says me I want to find it again....I don't.
I had a hysterectomy 14 yrs ago, have been on HRT for that long, have a hourglass shape (24hrs lol) and have a fat flabby belly which never seems to shrink.
I have not slept a whole night in 14 yrs, wake up every 2 -3 hrs am always tired, only excerise I can physically do is walking. I live rurally and have no friends to go swim/excerise with. I have tried several times including last summer for my daughter's wedding, unsuccessfully. This time I have to be more determined.
If I may, I would like to add you as a friend.

Hi elliestarlight,
I know how hard it is to get started when you have no one around to help jump start you. But, you are actually in the best place to start. Walking is an excellent form of exercise, get yourself a little radio with ear phones and get on out there. I keep one earphone in my ear and leave the other out so I hear what is going on around me. What I have done is drive from my house to get the distance down then I know when I'm walking how far I am going. You can get some hand weights and do a little work out in your house using the weights, and you can do that while you are sitting down watching tv. I use the time I walk to think about things and clear my head, so I prefer to walk alone. I too have an hourglass figure and my weight is mostly in my mid section.
I will be glad to track progress with you.
Karen
Welcome JFK and Ellie!
I'm here, willing to help whenever you need it! Please add me as a friend.
It's so overwhelming when you're trying to lose weight and you can't move because everything hurts.
Ellie, you must be exhausted!
The hardest thing about exercising is getting started. Even when I'm in a routine, I still have a tough time getting those shoes on my feet and getting out the door. And in the winter, it's extra hard (I'm know in the summer I'll complain, too)! So, to start, you don't have to walk miles, just move!
I started by doing something for 5 minutes every two hours, anything that made me move: I danced, walked around the house in circles, stretched, vacuumed. (we had a very clean house for awhile). But seriously, doing 5 minutes 6 times during the day, gives you 30 minutes of cardio. It's not the perfect workout, but it gets you used to moving. Then eventually you'll get to 15 a few times day, which researchers are saying is better to keep your metabolism at it's optimum burn level. But soon you'll find what works for you.
My mother is afraid of falling in the winter so she has 'walk at home' tapes she plays. She can do up 2 miles just walking in place.
Hi Karen,
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
This link is a map of the USA, type in your city and state, then you'll have to zoom in a bit. Now you have a map of your town. Turn the calorie counter on and type in your weight, click on "start recording" and you can get a milage count for your walking route. This is very helpful if you walk a lot of one-way streets and can't drive it in your car to check what you walked!
I agree with you, walking alone is my time to think and reflect. I find it very relaxing.
I just reread this, sorry if I sound to 'preachy'. I'm really not, I only want you to see that it's easier than you think to start......
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the long absence but I seemed to have lost my way for a little while. I got a cold and couldn't excercise without a coughing fit. Why that would stop me from posting seems a little strange but ... I did put on a few pounds but not as many as I would have in the past so that is good. I am ready to hop back on the wagon so if anyone else needs a pull up let me know.
I am going to challenge myself to walk 10,000 steps tomorrow ( including the treadmill). It is my cleaning day so I seem to go back and forth and up and down the stairs a fair bit so I will see how that goes.
I may try my hand at making some nice a thick, hearty veggie soup to keep me going.
I added everyone here that has been on the site the last month as my buddies. I plan to start journalling again tomorrow. Anyone who wants to be removed from my buddy list just let me know or feel free to ignore me. I won't take offense.
Happy Friday everyone,
Bev![]()
Wow, thanks a lot. I looked at the site but I have to figure it out a bit. You know sounding like a preacher is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes we need that and sometimes we need a good kick in the pants (sort of speaking). I think that is what brings us all together here. It's all good sound advice and I for one appreciate it.
Thanks.. again..
Karen
Hi Bev,
Glad to be your buddy, and hope you are feeling better. I like a good heartly veggie soup myself.
Karen
Just saw this post and hey, I'm in this group too. I'm 55 and doc told me to lose about 60 pounds. Since I just discovered I'm pre-diabetic (my mom died at 73 of diabetes 10 years ago.) So, I'm really motivated!!!!Have lost the first 10 pounds so far...thanks to CC which I discovered on the day the doc gave me the scary news!!
Good luck to all those young close to and 50+ers out there! We CAN do this!
Welcome veram and m3beatty. It's all about the support. We can do this and we can do it together. Tell us a little something about yourselves.
Karen
Thanks, Karen!
Like so many other 50+ ers, I've yo yo dieted for years. But spending 26 years in the AF kept me at 120 - 130 pounds. I'm 5 ' even! After retiring in 2002, I ballooned to 182... Now, with my first grand baby on the way I want to get back in shape and be healthy. Living in Colorado, I want to be able to get back into ski clothes and onto the slopes.
I found this web site about a month ago and it's a great resource, both with the support (and meeting friends on line) and a healthy eating plan. I "tagged" this site and will enjoy celebrating everyone's successes. Cheers, Martha
Happy Saturday everybody,
Love to see all the new people here. There are obviously lots of us on the same wagon. If we stick together we can help pull people back up that start sliding off the wagon. I know lots of people prefer to lurk but I think for me I would rather report to everybody how I'm doing so I have a sense of accountability. There are always more things to learn, but I feel like I generally know what I should be doing/eating. I just need to do it.
What I am going to try is setting a weekly goal or a challenge that I am facing. Feel free to comment or kick me in the butt. It is big enough that you shouldn't miss.
With that being said, my goal for this week is to walk more every day and to have at least 4 days of 10,000 steps. I am going to post my steps every day. My challenge for this week is to drink more water. Sometimes I am fine and other times I neglect this. Anyone else want to join me? I know this isn't for everyone.
I live in Eastern Ontario and it is still cold and icy here so I guess it will be the treadmill for me to get the steps in today. That and housework. It surprisingly adds up.

Hi Veram
Thanks for adding me as a friend. I see that you are from Ontario to. Bet you are just as anxious as me for this winter to be over and be able to get outside.
Bev
Hi, Bev and Karen...
I see you added me as a friend. Thanks. I'm not sure I know how to do that yet...so will try to figure it out!
Great goals, Bev on the 10,000 steps a day, 4 days a week. I need to get a new pedometer myself. Since I've been back at work (commuting) an hour and a half each way, I've been really low on steps. So, you have inspired me to get up and get going. Let us know how it works out! Happy Saturday! Martha
