54 Years Old, Needing to lose more then my age
Hi Folks,
I am looking for some of the post menopausal ladies that need to lose 60 pounds plus. I am only 5 foot 2 and need to lose about 60 pounds. I find I have no energy and my knees are starting to ache. Add on that I can't sleep straight through the night and you wonder why I have waited (weighted??) so long. I tried this in the summer and didn't stick with it so hope I can last this time. Anyone that would like to be friends on this journey are gratefully welcome. I won't promise to talk everyday, though I'll try but would like to touch base a few times a week to keep each other motivated and honest.![]()

Original Post by terry2fish:I need assistance...I am trying to post one of those TickerFactory.com weight tickers on my bio. I went to the site and made a ticker and got the code cut from the site and pasted it in my bio but I see the code and not the ticker. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I used the HTML code.
Terry
Here are some instructions that I followed. I did it a few weeks ago and had to try it a few times, but hopefully this works.
go to Community--> People
Click on edit page(it will be underneath the picture spot)
Scroll down to About Yourself
At that point you should see a box similar to the one used to create these wonderful posts. On the right hand side, there will be a yellow smiley , then next to it will be HTML. Click on HTML, and paste the code for your ticker in the box provided. Then click update.
Good Luck
I want to see what you picked. I used a purple centipede with a red ladybug walking up its back.
Hi Terry,
I am so happy we are all making such good progress. I know since I dropped those two pounds, I feel re-energized. I go in 5 lb increments so now I am onto my next 5 pound mark. Your absolutely correct Bev labels can be deceiving. I know some items I will eat low fat rather then fat free and the calorie difference is not that great.
It is gorgeous here today 65 degrees. Took the dog for a good hour walk, and wished I had not worn my jacket. Well, he is sleeping now and I have laundry to do.
Oh how I wish Spring was here already.....Catch up with everyone later.
Karen
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Terry, Thanks for the article re: chocolat. Geneen Roth is my favorite weight loss author. Her books are great. My favorites are "When You Eat at the Refridgerator, Pull Up a Chair" and "Feeding the Hungry Heart".
Karen, I will have to try black soybeans. Boston's Chinatown has a great market. I'm sure I'll find them there.
Well, I walked 2.5 miles today and did 20 minutes of step aerobics. Now I have work to do, so I will use my ball as a desk chair. Great for getting the core strong!
Oh my, I don't know what I would do in 26 degree weather
. I use to live in NY and the weather there was pretty cold, since I was just across from Manhattan. The water always made it feel colder. When I moved to Virginia, I was so glad the weather was warmer, the winters much more milder and the summer comfortable.
We already have some of our plants beginning to bloom. Last year I lost two of my rose plants because we had such great warm weather at the beginning of March and the first week of April we had below 20 degrees and frost and that just killed my plants. Until then my roses looked beautiful. I even tried to wrap them but it didn't work.
I hope this year is better. I just love to garden.
Karen
Thanks Bev! I got the ticker into my bio! Yay! It was a bit tricky but I did it. It is amazing to me how I can be so savvy about so many things and then some tech stuff just throws me for a loop. I am usually pretty stubborn and refuse to ask for help. I am learning to ask for help sooner now and life is easier this way!
I was hoping to be able to do some gardening today. I wanted to pull some weeds from my flower bed and get my raised beds ready for spring planting. It will have to wait until the weather is more hospitable again. I too am quite anxious for spring this year. I have big hopes of being able to do a lot more this year than I have been able to manage in years past. I will see if my dreams are bigger than my muscles! I do love to garden!
Spring is coming ladies! Sun will shine on us all again soon!
Terry
Hi Marie,
I think you will like them, please let me know when you do. If you eat a lot of salad differently try the black vinegar made from brown rice (Eden). I much prefer it over balsamic.
I walked 2 miles today, it was just so georgous out can't wait for spring/summer. I hope this year I am in better shape to do more in the yard.
Have a great evening everyone...
Karen
We were suppose to go to the show also but went shopping after supper. Men can be a pain in the a__ when in the store. It was embarrassing.
And my back has been hurting so I did not exercise yesterday or today. I am bad.
Bev we live so close together but I have three feet of snow on my front lawn. We have so much snow that we can not see when we back out of the driveway because of the snow banks. I need SPRING I am getting depressed.
Now I need to relax.
Hello All,
I added some photos to my page, so if you're curious, just clickon my name, then click on gallery.
The red shirt was at the start - 254 lbs. I wouldn't even stand up for the camera, like sitting was going to make me look thinner! The beige jacket is where I'm going - 190 lbs. The blue dress is next year's goal - 170lbs.
I am on the slow and steady. I want to make this lifestyle change a lasting one!
Boston is in the low 40's today, yipee! No hats, no scarves. Still wearing gloves. Still snow on the ground. But we will get there!
MCS,
I went to your page and there was no gallery to click on. Perhaps It didn't upload yet.
I read a great post on the forums today in a thread titled "What are your secret weight loss weapons?" This young lady said her secret weapon is that she never has to lose more than one pound. She said she has been successful over 65 times in succession now. She knows she is an all or nothing type person and having big goals that are too far out sets her up for failure. She falls down and can't get back up then. So she sets more easily attainable goals like one pound. Then she can focus on what she can to today to help make that goal. She doesn't worry about yesterday or tomorrow just what she has to do today. I added her to my friends list and will get her name so you can check out her journals. They are funny and inspiring I thought anyway! Her name is "snermy". I think this will be a very helpful tool for me now and into my maintenance that is so scary and foreign to me.
I must say that I am losing my fear and growing more confident each day in my ability to maintain my goal of healthy living at a healthy weight. Chatting with you ladies here and journaling is helping me realize my prior tendencies that caused me to fall into pot holes that I just kept slipping downward into.
Terry
Hi everyone, just here to say a big thank you to you all (incase you haven't read it on all the other posts I've been bragging on), why? I've just had my gym weigh in and guess what - 9lbs gone - and I owe you all a great debt for your support.
So now on to the next lb (I like that idea that you found Terry)
Congrats on the 9 lbs! I always think after the first five I am really on my way to the promise land! My scale fluctuates 5 pounds in a day so I have to get past those numbers to feel like I am making head way...
I love that I only ever have to lose one pound now too! It makes the idea of maintenance easier too. I can weigh in each morning and if I am up more than three pounds from my goal I just have to lose one pound to get back into the acceptable range!
Gotta see about getting a new cell phone for my mom...I don't like her to be traveling around without one and hers just died. She is in her 70's and very active and healthy! I might be able to be like her if I can maintain my weight loss!
Terry
I lost 1.5 lbs this week. I tend to weigh myself on Friday but I just felt lighter. I know it sounds crazy, but I am getting so tuned into my body.
Hi Terry...My mom is 80 and very active. She is 5'3" and has weighted 120 lbs HER WHOLE ADULT LIFE! I hate her. LOL. She is my role model. I want to be just like her when I'm 80. So active and independant.
Hope everyone has a good day and be healthy, wealthy and wise!
Marie
Good Morning All!
Marie I can relate to your love hate relationship with your mom. My mother is 5'4" and weighs in at 110. She is tiny and has always been that way. She plays tennis and golf. She can run me to the ground in a heart beat even now. I feel like now that I am exercising and have gotten healthier I can almost keep up with her as she is slowing down a bit! Hehehe...
I took her shopping yesterday for Baby Shower gifts for my new grandbaby and her great-grandchild, Bailey, that is due to arrive in June. Three hours of shopping and I am ready to call it a day. My mother is wanting to hit somemore stores. I was getting so hungry I had to pull out my snack reserves that I keep in my purse. I had an apple and two dates and managed to go a bit longer with her. By the time I got home at 2:30PM I was so starved for lunch I had to eat my crackers while I made the salads. I have to learn to take more snacks when I go out with her. Sometimes we go to lunch if there is a good place for a healthy salad. She eats everything and still is thin but not me! Her metabolism is that of a hummingbird and mine is like an elephant. I also have food sensitivities that make it harder to eat out. I am gluten intolerant which means no breads of the regular sort you find in restaurants.
Ok enough rambling on ...time to get on with my morning workout and then the gardening begins today!
Will check back later...Have a great day all...hope you are having lovely weather like we are here in California!
Terry
Hi everyone,
Terry, do you mind if I ask where in California, my son is in Temecula, used to live in San Deigo but moved out to be able to afford housing, and I'm visiting in May, this was one of the main spurs to my losing weight. Just can't face that 12 hr flight in the shape I was in, but I am getting healthier as well as losing weight.
I am actually enjoying this life change and feel so much better for it, just imagine how I will feel when I get to where I want to be.
Have a good one everyone
Pollockh, I am in Sacramento, California. I have a daughter and son-in-law living in the Los Angeles area. That is the daughter that is having a baby in June. Sounds like you and I have some fun coming up to look forward to! Temecula as San Diego is a beautiful area. From what I have heard about Northern Ireland though I think Temecula is not what you are used to. Have you been out here before? When are your grandchildren expected to be arriving this year?
One of the factors that got me motivated to get serious about getting healthy was my desire to be able to participate actively in the lives of my grandchildren. Last year before I began to count calories but was exercising regularly my daughter expressed concerns that I would not be around for or be fit enough to help her with her children when she had some. That was a real eye opener for me and I got busy!
It is wonderful to feel fit again. I am not as young as I once was...hehehe...but I am able to keep up now and move around without pain and discomfort.
Terry
Hi Angel,
You have come to the right place for support. There are a lot of us starting to work at losing the weight and just feeling better. Terry is here to help us out and show us it is possible. She is a wealth of info and is great at sharing.
The hardest part is getting started and you are here so that is done. Just remember it is a slow process, but as others have said, you just need to lose one pound. When that is done, you just need to keep that pound off and lose one pound. I have not lost a lot of weight since I have been here but I am more active and feel so much better. This has kept me going. I just have to remember this when I want to stray.

Hey, folks. May I join?
54, definitely NOT menopausal. (Menses came at age 7, and as far as I can tell I'm not even in perimenopause yet. I'd like it to be over, already!) Need to lose around 80 pounds. Two out of three ... does that qualify me?
I already know pollackh, Marie and Karen [waves] So maybe they will vouch for me?
I'm in several threads, so I don't promise to post every day, but I'm serious about getting fit, this time, so I will be around. Have you all figured out how to do journals, yet, and to follow friends' journals? It's a great way of keeping in touch, too.
Here, I'll earn my keep: Those of you having trouble sleeping at night. Why? Do you just wake up? Or, do any of these seem familiar:
- night sweats
- snoring (for first time, or heavier than before)
- dropping off to sleep at odd moments, while watching TV or reading ...
- feeling"blue" more than is normal for you
If any of those fit you, ask your doc about sleep apnea. I was *devastated* when I was diagnosed; it seemed to me a punishment for being overweight all my life. But now, they will have to pry my CPAP machine from my dead, cold fingers, if they want it back! I cannot tell you what a difference it has made in energy level, ability to sleep, concentration during the day ...
Just a suggestion.
