54 Years Old, Needing to lose more then my age

Quote  |  Reply

Hi Folks,

I am looking for some of the post menopausal ladies that need to lose 60 pounds plus.  I am only 5 foot 2 and need to lose about 60 pounds.  I find I have no energy and my knees are starting to ache.  Add on that I can't sleep straight through the night and you wonder why I have waited (weighted??) so long.  I tried this in the summer and didn't stick with it so hope I can last this time.  Anyone that would like to be friends on this journey are gratefully welcome.  I won't promise to talk everyday, though I'll try but would like to touch base a few times a week to keep each other motivated and honest.Kiss

Hello,

I'm Christine (exsurfergirl53), and I'm 55 years old.  Just went through the menopause thing.  Hot flashes and all that.

I read recently that women over 40 lose the enzymes that metabolize wheat properly, and that's why we gain weight.  I don't know it that's 100 percent true, but I think it bears exploring.

I hve more than 100 pounds to lose, and it sure went on easy after I lost my husband of 16 years, but it's not coming off very easy!

I would love to be your friend and weight loss buddy!  I'm new to this myself, and we can help each other along.  I will do my very best to at least write every other day.  I'm a full time college student, and there are just times when I won't be able to write every day.  But I will commit to at least every other day.

It's nice to meet you, and I'm in Southern California by the way.

Christine (exsurfergirl53)

Hi Christine and chistimedavidson, sorry haven't been in this forum for a while,  we all seemed to move to the Lets Geturdone forum.  Please feel free to join us there.  We are always happy to meet new folks.  I've added you to my friends list, please feel free to add me as well.  I know just how hard it is to lose weight and the stuggles with it.  We have a very good support system in place so please peak in on us and say hi.

Karen

Thank you for your responses I will definitely add you to my friends list and I will move to the Lets Geturdone forum.  I am starting a new job.  I am a retired Elementary Principal and I am now going to start working in a Parochial school.  I need to move around  lose weight and be the vibrant woman I know is hidden under all of this fat!!  I went to the beach today made myself put on a Bathing suit It worked I am not eating tonight.

I'm 49 (and have been several years now!) Your story is mine plus 15 pounds.  I have lost these 75 lbs. @ least 7 times in my life.  I was thin for 14 years and about 2 years ago I've eaten myself back to obesity.  YUCK, oh well today is the day I started (for the first time) to do it healthy.  I would do anything in the world before to lose weight except exercise.  With outside support and my innermost decision to start a healthy life style it's on.  I was in a fellowship group for support about my son's drug use years back and the ladies use to say, "I Can't We Can" so welcome to a WE World of support!

I actually did pretty well  for much of the  winter however i am now stuck and I need help.    I am not losing.   I am not gaining but  am not losing after losing about 22 lbs.  I would really like to lose again and I know that some exercise would do the trick.  You girls are CA girls but I am stuck in the house forthe winter.  We had another snow storn on Monday I am really sick of snow.  Your email message was a wake up call.  I will exercise tomorrow I will have a plan and I will log my food today and I will add you as a friend I need friends.  Thank you.  Lets do this

I had not been on this site for quite a while and just got a notice that there were new posts to this thread and what a welcome thought.  I had been going it alone for quite a while and was thinking that I needed to start focusing on this journey more.  This is just the poke that I needed.  Thanks ladies.

I am in Ontario and we are just starting to get some nice spring weather.  I think it will take another week though to get the ice off of the hiking trails.  I have lost about 25 pounds and have another 40 to lose.  I am trying to make it more of a lifestyle change so that I hope that this is the time that I don't bounce back.

It is funny that at this point no one has commented on my weight.  It has been a slow loss and I am still wearing the same clothes.  They were so tight when I started and now they are baggy.  Maybe if I wore a smaller size people would notice more.  With the current economy I am trying to put of buying anything new til I really need it.  Still , I would like to hear a compliment or two.

Anyway, there are far worse complaints then just not getting my ego strokedEmbarassed.

Thanks Ladies,

Nice to meet you.... Bev

Hi I just joined today. I think I am the oldest in this post but I need to loose about 60 lbs too. I have tried everything and I decided to look in to just counting calaries. If anyone has any tips please advice.  I am 61 and have a bad back and legs so walking is not something I can do for very long.

Bev congrats on your 25 pounds sounds like you are doing great.

Dear Lynn,

Dr. Phil sez just move.  I'm 55 and know just our metoblism is different, our lifestyles usually aren't as active and I applaud your willingness to count calories in your quest to lose weight.  Keep me posted, WE are the old ladies here. oxoxo

I forgot I am 61 years old. I am active my husband and I are both retired and we have 12 miniature horses so every morning I get up and take care of them. I am doing there feed, hay and water buckets all the time. I am cleaning out stalls that is not the greatest job but it has to be done.  It is hard work I walk from the house to the barn, to different parts of the property that we have fenced in. I have to keep the boys separated from the girls. The little girls separated from them all. So I do walk just not enough. It takes me about 2 hours of shoveling the you know what out of the stalls and getting them ready so when they come in they have there hay, feed, water in there. It is a lot of work for a 61 year old but I do it because I enjoy my miniature horses but I just don't loose any weight.

I have been on the Atkins diet for almost 2 months and it is not working for me this time around so I thought I should look into different things calorie counting I think might be the best. I just have to figure out what I can eat. I have been on the net trying to find a list of foods and the calories in them with no luck.

Hi Bev,

My name is Zenaida and i am 52 years old and i just started to go through menopause for almost three months now.  As you know it is the hardest thing a woman has to go through life with all the changes and you are somewhere inside seeing and feeling but not able to take control of your body. eating, sleeping more not motivated and somehow just being lazy and letting this menopause take over my mind and myself being.  I also stoped smoking and i need to lost about 30 pounds as of today but if i keep eating and sleeping i will end up to lose more then just thirty.  I need a friend that is going what i am going through..  right now i am going through hot flashes at night only my face i be sweating and then i be cold...

Hi and welcome to the site.  Im not fifty yet but real close.  I'm more thatn a 100 lbs and am desperate to lose the weight or risk becoming disabled from foot and les pain.  Three years ago I had lost over sixty lbs and felt great - it all came back after moving to bc and had to drive the car again.  It was hard work but am now motivated to try again.  Good luck to you and don't stop trying - it can be done, it just has to be the focus of your life until it becomes your life, ie: daily exercise  and eating healthy.  It's taken alot of research on what I can live with and now believe I'v have a battle plan I can live with.  Hope to hear from you!  ps am now dealing with the symptoms of "change of life" and my doctor has helped me with the sleepless nights.  Also one year smokefree.
