How old were you when you had your wisdom teeth out?
I was 18; my ex-husband was 22. He took our son to the orthodontist today, as the kid has lost a retainer and has to get it replaced. While they were there, the orthodontist told them that the kid needs to get his wisdom teeth taken out.
He's 14.
I know his teeth came in early, firmed up early so that he was done with braces at the age some kids are just getting theirs, but still, 14 seems absurdly young to me.
The x-rays don't lie, however; his wisdom teeth definitely need to come out.
Anyone else here have his/her wisdom teeth taken out so early, or know anyone who has?
Mine were taken out when I was fifteen. I had a route canal that'd gone wrong, and while they were pokin' around in there they determined my wisdom teefers had to come out, too. They were starting to crack my jaw.
It sucked. I had an infection that lasted for five months and two teeth cracked in the process, both of which that now need attention but damned it, after what they put me through getting my wisdom teeth out, I was too afraid to go to a dentist and haven't since then.
It's really not that horrible unless something goes wrong. The first night, as you know, sucks, but heck, we get out of school for a while if they're taken out young. :D
I just did mine 2 weeks ago! I'm not much help for you, since I'm 23, but I just want to remind everyone how much it freakin' sucks.
17.... I think..
i still haven't had mine out. =(
Aww, bernasha, you've got my sympathy. I remember spending my first week slumped over the kitchen sink with the spray hose in my mouth, constantly squirting in luke-warm water. It was the ONLY thing that kept me sane as I refuse to take any painkiller other than Ibuprofen 250MG, which didn't do crap for this kind of pain.
I had mine out when I was 16. My dad had his out at 42..
It's different for everyone I guess!
I was 18, but I had a really bad experience. The area where my tooth was taken out on the bottom left hand side of my mouth got infected big time. Apparently, the stitches that were used on that side dissolved to fast so I had a big hole in my gums. Something got in the hole and then the hole started to close up. Yeah, that wasn't fun at all. My whole left side of my jaw was puffed up to the point that I seriously looked like a puffer fish. I had to go back into the doctor and have it drained. Yuck.
Didn't have to get mine taken out - they managed to grow in completely and fit just fine. My dentist joked that I'm lucky I have a big mouth...
Anyway, my hubby had his taken out at 35, and it made him freakin' miserable for a week. The doctor put him on Demerol afterwards, and it only worked because it gave him a headache so bad that it made him forget about the pain in his mouth. After they switched to Percoset, he was better, but still miserable for about a week. He ate a lot of mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and soup.
I had mine taken out when I was 40. I only had the lowers.
Mine came out at 16 get those suckers fast before they mess up all that expensive straitening.
I never had any to take out. When DDS do xrays they just aren't there. My 21 yr old daughter had hers out a year or 2 ago and my 18 yo said she thinks hers are coming in. I am just so glad I never have to go thru that.
i think i was 30. maybe even 31. they never caused me any problems (never broke through) but my dentist figured it was just a matter of time.
I was 22 and I had all four out in one surgery. Didn't get to eat meat for about 3 weeks. It hurt like a mf. lol. Took ibuprofen as well as the narcotic prescription they gave me (in case I needed it).
i got mine out Sep 28th last year. Man i was on drugs for THREE weeks. It freaking hurts. I was 23.
my experience wasn't that bad. i had all four out under general anesthetic. was on antibiotics for three weeks, but only took the tylenol with codeine for a few days. my mouth wouldn't really open for about ten days, though, and i got pretty hungry!
I had mine taken out about a year ago, when I was 24. I have a good friend who had hers removed when she was 12; I don't remember why. She turned out ok though.
I was born with only one, and it still resides in my head but then again, my 12 year old molars didn't come in until I was 20 so there is still time. ^_^
14 is very young though, most people I know were 16-22ish. Poor kid, that's going to hurt.
I was 22. All 4 were impacted with active cavities, all 4 were yanked at once. Had to take Vicodin for a couple days afterwards.
Haven't had mine out, the pressure is daunting sometimes, but I am afraid of the dentist. I take very good care of my grill but haven't had a check up in 12 years.
I don't remember exactly how old I was. I know for sure it was teenage years. I am thinking more like jr. high age. I had to have one out from each corner. My doc had to break two first then take them out in pieces.
