Can a 43 year old woman lose weight? Should I just give up and try to maintain?

I am 5'5", 157 lbs and active running and training for a second 1/2 marathon.  Seems like no matter how many calories I cut and how many miles I log, the weight just won't budge.  I am beginning to think I should just give up and try not to gain anymore.  Is it even possible for a woman my age to lose weight and/or gain muscle?

In theory, you can lose weight and gain muscle at any age, although much of your capacity to burn calories, build muscle and store fat is determined by your genes. Your BMI is 26, which only marginally overweight. Several recent studies linking BMI to mortality have shown older women who have BMIs of 25 to 29.9 have the lowest mortality rates. And so, your weight is not a health issue, but a cosmetic issue if you choose to make it one.  Regardless of our weight status, we all have to exercise and eat a balanced diet.
