Are there any older people here?

Quote  |  Reply
I just joined CC this morning realizing I need the motivation and support of others since I am on my own. I will be 60 years old in September and currently weigh 215 pds. A year ago, I had lost 22 pounds on my own and then had to have surgery. I gained back 15 pds. over the course of last year.  I want to lose weight to make myself feel better, improve my health and live a long, full life. I have so many plans still for my life now that my sons are grown. Since I am divorced I live alone, and I love the freedom I have. But I am missing the "moral" support and motivation to get going and keep on losing the pounds I want to lose. Are there any "older" people here who find themselves in similar circumstances?

Debisue,

Welcome! You can do it! The Senior Corner is a good place to start. Also ClaireLaine (moderator for Recipes ) is a true inspiration. Hang in there. There are many here who love to help because we recognize we all need each other!

Thanks!  Right now it seems almost like a game as I figure out all the different aspects of this site.  My server was down the other evening and I can't believe how that upset me...I wanted to log my evening meal...AUGH!  I needed my calorie count fix.  Never in my life time would I think I would be upset over not writing something down that I had eaten.  Never been my style...which may explain why I now need to drop about 144 pounds.  I guess it keeps me occupied so I don't think I need something to eat.  I have been on my "new lifestyle" for 1 week as of today.  YEA!!  You hang in there and again thanks for the support :)

Well, I've been on CC since Nov' 07 but just found this thread and I'm 70 years young.Wink  I went from 174 to 130 in 1.5 years then back up to 140ish and have been trying to get back down to 130 for the past 8 months.  With healthy eating and exercise, I will do it someday.

I joined CC two days ago.  I am 52 and have found myself to be overweight, less active and stuck!  I have two grandsons that I need to keep up with so I really hope this works.  My problem is that I am single, live alone, and eat for comfort!  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there--another Golden Oldie here ( 54, F, Married--kids all gone--just me, the DH and the spoiled Belgian Malinois). Have gained a lost a literal ton over the course of my lifetime and have struggled and yo-yo'd my whole life.

All time top weight was 285 about three years ago ( at 5' 5"--it ain't pretty) lost 75 pounds; kept it off about six months and ate my way back to 240 at my beginning weight this time around-- on the Fourth of July.

I stumbled along from 7/4 until Aug. 5th on my own when I signed up here at 230...and it took me a couple of days to find this board and very glad I did!!

OP noted "moral support"--I'm here for the same; I have difficulty venting with the 20-ish crowd; they're a fun bunch, but the issues they face--let's face it--aren't precisely the same as the ones a couple of extra decades can pile on.

And pile it on I did--my GW is 140, based on a large frame ( which I actually do have--no excuses); so I have a substantial 90 pounds to go.  I think the last time I was 140 was third grade :(

There's nothing quite like a friendly kick in the butt from some Old Wise Ones......kick on!

Just joined calorie count today.  I'm certainly of the "older" genre.  Turned 55 last month.  I retired a year ago, divorced TWO years ago and I have gained 10-12 pounds since 2006.  No one's fault but my own.  (I eat too much and quit the heavy gym workouts).  I would like to lose 10-15 pounds and be strong again...keeping a journal and I'm back working out at home...

Would love to hear from others.  Maybe I'll check out the senior corner!

Turning 54 Saturday - glad to be a part of the "older" genre even though my mind is of a 32 year old!  (ha! ha!)  Just started a few days ago - check out "A New Beginning".  Interested in becoming a "buddy" contact me!  I love corresponding and encouraging!  Norma Jean

well im 56 if that counts as old - desperate to loose weight - so we may have something in common

Hi and Welcome!

I am 56 also and been making changes one at a time. It has been a very slippery slope but I have managed to keep off the weight that I lost. Many, many times I have messed up but I get right back on track. I feel better, sleep better, and I am getting stronger.

My highest weight was 216 and right now I weigh 201. This has been a slow journey but worth it! I have a part time job that requires lifting all day so I do have better muscle mass than when I started. My clothes fit different and people say they can tell that I lost weight. That helps me stick with things. I know that I have a ways to go but I am going in the right direction. I just wish I would have started sooner but I have to look forward and stay focused.

Everybody have a GREAT DAY!!!
