Older Young Calorie Counters.
I myself am 19 and while I am young I don't feel I really "fit in" with 13 year olds and such as I've pretty much already been through that.
Any thoughts?
hello. im 21, female, and a college senior.
scary!
hi, i'm 19 (20 next september) and just finishing up my sophomore year!
I'm 18 (turning 19 in October) and I understand what you mean curalium_lacrimo. I know I'm only a few years older but A LOT has happened in those few years. I feel like I only really began to understand life and the world when I started going to university. That's why I normally don't go to the "Young Calorie Counter" section. I just can't connect with the younger teens - and I really don't mean to insult anyone.
16 & a junior.
i dislike most teenagers.
i dislike most people in general, just because i'm annoyed really easily
but certain mannerisms specific to *most* teenagers i just hate.
in before "you're a hypocrite", because i'm no better than most of them
In response to all the "we were teens once too", and "this is the same as racial discrimination" crap:
When I'm reading the boards, I can easily tell what posts come from "younger" members. It's hard to explain, but even if their spelling and punctuation is perfect, it's still very easy to tell. (By the way, many 50-year-olds on here could use an elementary school grammar course - that's not the point!) Kids under 18 might not be that much younger, but they still have a different mind set than that of an adult, no matter how "mature" they are. What makes you think that a 25 year old will be interested in talking to a 15 year old? Of course younger people will always be interested in talking to someone who's older than them, but that's not always the case for older people. Why is it wrong for "older young adults" to want to talk to someone in their own age range? And what the hell does it have to do with racism or having once been a teenager? Seriously
Sorry for dropping in, I just wanted to see what this thread was all about. I intend for this to be my first, and last, time coming to this thread. That being said what age do you think I am knowing I'm under 18? I also wanted to say that I get along pretty well with adults. The only thing I can't talk to them about are intimacy because it's just akward for me. As for any other topic we can go on for hours.
- A curious teen.
I learnt to like and eat just about everything during Freshman year.... and that's how I ended up here.
21. officially a college senior as of last wednesday. trying to get between 90-100, wherever i feel/look the best.
and wow, how can anyone think that highschoolers and college kids have the same issues? that makes no sense.

Is that so inconceivable? Yes, our concerns do change once we enter college or university. However, when you consider that there are only two to three months of summer separating a high school senior from a college freshman, some of those issues are bound to overlap.
Sorry to stray off-topic. I'm 20 and new to these forums. It's very nice to meet similarly goal-oriented people. :)
Hey my name is Giselle.... or GIGI.. whichever... im 21... my highest weight was 215 when i was 16 and lowest 150 March 07.... ive went up to 185 due to just ME eating cuz i was bored from quitting my job and meds i was on.

I think that seeing that this is a weight type thing, the real difference between those under, I'd say, 19 and those over is that your metabolism seriously slows down at about 19. 13 year olds, regardless of their high school problems or teenage ways, still have little bodies, and I have noticed that most of them that are in these forums are just concerned about getting back to looking like little girls.
I am 22 and have gained and lost weight in my time. I am 5"8 and currently 145 pounds, which I think is ok. I want to get down to about 132, which I think is a perfectly healthy and realistic weight for my height, and for somebody who has already grown hips, tits and, please pardon my French, ass.
I would also like to see more topics relating to people in a similar situation, as opposed to teenagers with the metabolism of a young gaselle, or older women whose metabolisms have significantly decreased and who already have children.
So my question is: What do you guys eat when you eat out? Like in a restaurant or something? Assuming that, as somebody who has debts and not much money, you can't eat fancy in the finest macrobiotic restaurants?
Also, how do you guys cope in social drinking situations? Since joining this site, I am absolutely flabbergasted at the number of calories in alcohol, but my group of friends are generally people who like to hit the booze about twice a week.
Heyy Im 18, freshman in college and turning 19 in September.
5'6", 116 lbs, and trying to maintain. Any of you guys maintaining also??
I'm 20! And no offence to anybody, but I really hate young people (hahaha I sound like an old granny...) well, hate is a strong word, but I even hated High School because I was surrounded by bustling, intimidating teenagers. I like being old enough to pretend to be a grown up (but I HATE feeling old on my birthday.....:( 20 was a milestone and a half)
I'm trying to lose 30 or so lbs. Moving in with my boyfriend has proved detrimental to my diet, although it was never perfect to begin with. When I'm happy, I eat more! Food is my friend. Well it was. NOT ANYMORE!!
I think many of the points addressed in this forum are valid, especially the metabolism divide between older and younger "young calorie counters." Obviously, there's a huge lifestyle shift from high school to college and that makes it really hard to discuss diet and exercise with younger members of this group. Maybe the best option would be to make a new group for people in college that accounts for members who are dealing with losing weight in the context of crazy schedules, stress eating, late night delivery, dorm food, drinking and lack of funds. These were not a problem when I was 13, but they are at age 21 and I'm looking for people that can help me to lose weight without sacrificing fun.
I guess we're all looking for advice and support from people in a similar situation.
Alcohol Calories are the main reason Ive put on weight. I moves away to Uni last Sept, and since then i go out to clubs/pubs 3 or 4 nights a week. Def not good for me!!! But def good fun!!
I joined this site this week, but have dieted before. I am really focused this time to lose the weight i have gained since i started uni, and before healthier and happier!!!
So I've started eating better, exercising more, and moderating my alchol consumption, avoiding calorific cider!!! haha!
I'm 22 here. Anyone in the North Carolina area?
Hi.
I'm 23, female, 5'7". I gained weight gradually in college, senior year of high school I was 125 lbs. Senior year of college about 145 lbs, and now, graduated and working in the 'real world,' i'm 161.
I have been running on the elliptical at the gym for 30 minutes at my work pretty much every morning for about a month. This week I'm doing a free trial of fitness classes at a gym. I am thinking of signing up for a fitness camp nearby that lasts four weeks. Because the elliptical doesn't seem to be doing much. Does anyone know a good exercise for upper arms? I am trying to stay under 1300 calories per day (this has only been this week that I started really counting)
hannah_18, alcohol is definitely difficult for me too. Although I don't go out much these days. I think that organic (if you can find it) red wine is the best choice though. Sometimes you just have to have a drink! Also 'skinny bitches' aren't that bad either, except they don't taste very good. They are vodka and diet coke in case you didn't know.
My goal weight is 130. It would be nice to lose at least 10 lbs by June 28th (when i'm going to the beach) but we will see. My deadline to weigh 130 lbs is June 2009 when i'm getting married :)
I would love to have a group on here of 18-25! How do we start one? I just joined this week.
Good luck with your goals everyone!

Not just the metabolism thing, but also our bones start to fuse as we get older! When you're around 18-25ish your hip bones especially (when your a woman) start to flare out to make it easier for you to bare children. So even if you don't gain any weight, you can go from a size 5 to a size 7/9 just because of this osteological event!
I'm 24, a graduate student and archaeologist, and am just trying to drop those last 10 or so pounds before my upcoming beach wedding this September.
How much fibre should I eat per day?
In the US, the Daily Reference Intakes for fiber are: 25 grams for women 19 - 50 21 grams for women 51 - 70+ 38 grams for men 19 - 50 30 grams for men 51 -... Read more
