15 year olds and cheat days?

Quote  |  Reply

Well Ive lost weight and i really want to maintain it without going above 105 lbs.

Im a teen and you know teens love candy and junk food, im no different. i love sweet and salty and im a girl so sometimes that gets very very hard to avoid.

should i have a cheat day or cheat meal?

usually i have a cheat meal, sometimes i binge though.

isnt it ok for a teen to eat? i mean it sounds like cheat days arent really good for you, but you dont eat the junk food everyday, shouldnt you be allowed to eat it?

as long as your not eating more than you are burning, it should be fine. just make sure you don't overeat. :)

I don't know your height, but 105 may be too low a weight for you.  At your age, you are still developing, both internally and externally, even if you aren't still growing taller.  Don't undereat, it is as unhealthy as overeating, and if you find that you are binging frequently, it may mean that you aren't eating enough.

If 105 isn't too low a weight for you,  you should be able to maintain on a reasonable diet of at least 2000 calories with a reasonable amount of exercise (more if you are very active).  Your calories should come mostly from healthy, wholesome, whole foods like whole grains, legumes, lean meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables.  But certainly you can indulge in the odd treat like candy, cake, or french fries without feeling guilty or gaining weight as long as you don't overdo it.

To be honest I think you should just be a normal teen who doesn't worry about her weight and 'cheat days'.  The best thing to learn about at your age is to eat a healthy balanced died without having to count the cals.  Don't try and restrict your cals, you body will tell you when it's full.  Fast food is only bad for you if you eat it too much.  So basically there if nothing wrong with having a McDonalds or any other meals from fast food restraint as long as it's not all the time.  I maybe have 3-4 McDonalds a year.

I'm a little worried about your weight as well.  It can be just as bad for your health under eating as over eating.  You're a developing young lady and you're going to continue developing for a few more years yet.

I don't think we should rip on her for her weight until we know her height. I'm a little over 4'11" and 105 pounds would put me at a healthy BMI of 21. That being said, if she's even a few inches taller than me, I'm editing my post to lay down some healthier guidelines...

Niceoneman, cheat days are perfectly normal. Although at your age, assuming that 105 is a healthy weight for your height, you really shouldn't be concerned with counting calories at all. Live a little and have fun with your food while you have the chance! Even a little bit of junk food is okay to have every day, as long as you don't go completely overboard with it. There's no need to restrict the sweets if you're eating them in moderation. :)

im 5'3 and 15
