olive oil and bread for breakfast?

Quote  |  Reply

i like dipping bread in infused olive oil, was wondering if this seems like an okay breakfast if it's within calorie limits? i know bread isn't that great in terms of energy release, but the olive oil might make it okay overall to keep my energy levels stable for longer.

my cholesterol is quite high (despite being veggie!) so i'd like to eat more olive oil to combat this... plus it seems like a pretty effort-free brekkie and i am very lazy in the mornings!

Try using whole-grain bread and adding some protein. Just bread and oil wouldn't keep me going through the AM.

You can try and see if it works for you, I personally agree with the whole grain suggestion, and I would also advise you to get some protein as well.

How about toasting the bread and eating an omelette/poached/boiled&sliced egg on it? Or some cottage cheese/mozzarella and sliced tomato/tomato sauce? Or even a bit of grilled chicken/turkey? Shredded tuna? You can cook/slice everything the night before if you`re lazy in the mornings, so you`d just have to use the toaster or microwave for 1 min and everything`d be done.

Olive oil is a natural appetite suppressant... and it shows some promise in the treatment of obesity - but...  it’s really calorie dense stuff… the science of it is pretty solid… try it out – I'm with ily51 -  if it works for you – great – if not – try something else.

That is like a staple breakfast here in Spain and in Italy too because of the mediterranean diet. It is considered to be one of the healthiest breakfasts there are if you add some fresh fruit or yoghurt to that.

Really nice :)

my father's family is from southern france, and bread with oil is a staple healthy breakfast. rosemary bread or a multigrain roll w/ olive oil & spices is fantastic paired with fruit, and the fats in the oil keep you satiated until lunch.
