Omega 3 Enhanced Eggs

Quote  |  Reply

What are these supposed to taste like?  Which ones do you like the most as far as flavor and price go?

I bought some for the first time yesterday, boiled two and ate them plain.  They tasted weird.  I couldn't quite place the flavor, so I looked at the package and saw that they feed the chickens fish oil, flax seed, and corn.  I put one in my turkey burger mix last night and didn't notice the slight fish oil taste at all.  But, when I ate a fried one this morning, I noticed a very slight fish oil taste when eating the yolk.  They are not expired, look and smell fresh and taste good in every other way, besides the hint of fish oil flavor.

I've never noticed a difference in taste.

I adore omega-3 enriched eggs because it's like you're eating fish.... except YOU'RE not! ha ha! I never actually have tasted anything "fishy" when eating these eggs though either... so perhaps your eggs were old? Or maybe it was all in your head because when you were eating them you were thinking about fish & flaxseeds? ha ha! Who knows, but don't give up on them!

Thank you! Yes, I can definitely taste the fish in those enhanced omega-3 eggs, and I hate it.

People in the U.K. may not notice it, since most chickens in the U.K. are fed fish meal, while in the U.S. we are used to eggs from corn-fed chickens.

Personally, I just prefer my regular old corn-fed eggs, and just east walnuts and cook with olive oil to get my omega threes.

Yeah, ok, it's not just me.  I just saw some third party information that confirmed the fishy taste.  I guess it's omega 3 that helps to give fish its flavor, but it is too strong in breakfasty eggs.  The turkey burger was fine, though.  I think I'm going to stick to regular eggs for breakfast and snacks.  :)

I have omega-3 enriched eggs for breakfast 4-5 days a week and I've never noticed any differance in taste (and I'm in the US).

There's increasing debate around at the moment about the whole field of omega-3 enrichment.  Apparently, it's better to get your Omega 3 direct from oily fish and other natural sources.  Seems it doesn't translate well as a supplement & the benefits are not quite what were expected.

If you don't like them, don't eat them...

I saw something last night about super tasters being able to detect the fishy flavor, so I guess I now have a new label for myself.  This is a good reason to eat the real deal, some delicious salmon or fatty fish.

To me, Omega3 eggs taste exactly the same as regular.

I'm pretty sure the fishy taste is all in your head, because I don't think they add fish properties to the eggs, but instead get the chickens to eat flax seeds.

there was a recent (UK i think) study on this that showed the benefits of Omega/DHA enriched foods like eggs and breads are negligible---ie a waste of money and wont up your levels in any measurable way.

dont buy into the commercial gimmicks---eat oily fish or take a good capsule supplement, like Solgar's ones. x
