Thanks , but that's not exactly what I'm looking for - searching for food supplements ( alternative to fish oil )

Flax Seed Oil

Check to make sure it's in a vegetarian capsule if you're taking the capsule form.  Many supplements use gelatin in their capsules.  Or you can just use the oil for things like salad toppings or oatmeal topping.  Flax oil isn't suitable for cooking; it's best to use it as is.  Also, if you use the oil, make sure to refrigerate it so it won't go rancid.

I would try Wholefoods or a health food store for supplements without gelatin.  I buy my chewable vegetarian vitamins at Wholefoods and they seem to have a good deal of supplemental product that are vegetarian friendly.  Also, as I think a couple of people have mentioned you can buy flaxseed (either already ground or ungrounded), and you can buy the oil, but when you buy the oil do a little research first and compare the brands, usually the brands that are a little more expensive (unfortunately) have a higher concentration of omega-3s.

Also, I don't know what kind of vegetarian you are, but I'm a lacto-ovo so I consume carefully chosen eggs that have omega-3s, it is hard to find companies that don't debeak, and allow the chickens to freely access outside, and all that other important stuff though.

Hi , I'm lacto-ovo as well ( veggie for more then 6 years ). Recently decided to improve my meals with some supplements . Just one more question - should labels " suitable for vegetarians " be trusted or is there a chance that food or supplements still might contain some animal ingredients ?

There are quite a few different vegan DHA supplements on the market. They range from 100-300 mg of DHA and come in vege-capsules and drops.

walnuts!!! lots of em!

There are some great cereals providing omega 3's...uncle sam comes to mind.
