Am I getting too many omega-3s?

I eat canned wild salmon twice a week and I also take 1000 mg of fish oil a day.

There is not sufficient data for scientists to set a UL (Tolerable Upper Intake Level - the level above which risk of toxicity would increase) for omega-3s; however, an AI (Adequate Intake - average requirement to prevent deficiency) has been set. It is 1600 mg for men and 1100mg for women. The best supplements contain 1000 mg of fish oil per capsule, which provides 440 mg of omega-3 fatty acids. A 3-ounce cooked portion of wild coho salmon has contains about 1500 mg of omega-3s. Because omega-3 supplements may increase the risk of excessive bleeding, people who take anticoagulant medications or aspirin should consult a doctor before taking omega-3s.
