Hi

I have just found out that whta I thought was a healthy pint of orange squash in fact had 54 calories in it!!!!

Does this mean I should be logging all the things I drink as well?

Anyone else having a hard time sticing to there daily calorie goal?

eh duh!!! like the USA  has the highest obesity rate in the world coz of (amongst other things!!) COKE PEPSI, in fact calories in drinks contribute massively to your weight, but not to your "feeling satisfied or full" centre in the brain. thats why if your on a weight  GAIN  diet one of the easiest ways to do it is to drink your  cals!

Yeah but i though orange squash would be ok! Its just orange and water!

:-(

Well, didn't you know oranges have calories? So does orange juice. Same thing.... if it involves calories, I log it, unless it's really low, like <5. So I drink water, sugar free lemonade (the little packets you put into water bottles), special k protein water (which i log because it has 30cal), and decaf iced tea with sweet 'n low.

Horrible isnt it.... having to log calories in something we drink!!!! Once I found out that just about everything you drink, except water, has calories I moved to water only. I FEEL SOOO DEPRIVED! What I would do for a DIET PEPSI! It contributed to me being Obese so there for its an enemy!!!! ha ha

I count everything including the <5 calories foods and drinks just because I maximize my calories daily and hit just right on my target number. :)

Good Luck!

yes you should log your drinks, fruits, veggies, etc... they all have calories and therefore they all count!  of course drinking o.j. is better than drinking coke, but if your trying to keep track of calories, they all count.

If only wine was calorie free....

I'm just dreaming! It's really the only thing besides water that I drink. I love juice, but the calories are too high to be worth it. I'll just eat the fruit instead. More filling that way.

Of course you log the calories in drinks.  The only one I skip is herb tea with 1 packet of splenda.  That's no more than 2 calories, and too little to bother with.

Hi, back.

1. I have never heard of orange squash, but 54 calories isn't all that dreadfful, is it?

2. I log everything that has 5+ calories... which includes beverages.

3. Most days, I am able to stick to my daily calorie budget. On days that I go over, I try to exercise more.

=^..^= MOLLY

demanding_munch are you from the uk?? I am and a lot of people here don't understand what squash is as it means something different in the US!

You can get many "no added sugar" versions of all different types of squash that usually have 8 cals or less per serving. They may contain artificial sweetner but if it helps you get your water it's not really that important!

Just make sure that EVERYTHING you drink is a diet/zero/no added sugar version.

Dont add sugar to tea and coffee, count your milk and use sweetners. Why waste calories on drinks when you could use them on something yummy...

And alcoholic drinks...stay away from beer, lager, cider, try to go for wine or spirits as lower in cals and when you have a 'mixer' ie vodka and coke (CHOOSE DIET COKE!!!)
Yes, it's sad to realise that even "healthy" things have calories and even more sad to realise that those foods/drink you once thought were healthy are actually not.

Oh but Zulu, cider is soooo good!  Tongue out

And here I thought this thread was a joke...

just remember that those artificial sweeteners are some harsh chemicals.  if you read up on aspartame it probably shouldn't even be approved. i wouldn't go overloading your body with them.  on occasion would be okay, just dont' over do it.  i get a headache from one diet coke bc of the aspartame- can't be good.

Aspartame is perfectly safe.  All studies have shown this.

"Aspartame is perfectly safe.  All studies have shown this."

Yes and studies have also shown how it's NOT safe so don't be fooled.

My boyfriend almost didn't believe me when I told him that I count drink calories too.

This thread makes me want to cry myself to sleep tonight.

Whether or not aspartame is good or bad for you is still up for debate, however, because it is still being debated its a bad idea to consume large amounts of it. I strongly believe you can make a study say whatever you want as long as you try hard enough, and I also believe that aspartame is horrendous for you. Even if you don't think it's bad for you the whole point of this site is to get healthy so why would you want to put weird man made chemicals into your body?

And yes, you should be keeping track of the calories in your drinks.

When Aspartame was up for FDA approval decades ago, it was shot down EIGHT times because scientists saw the detrimental effects it had.  It was only ever approved because the then- FDA Commissioner Arthur Hull Hayes allowed it (despite three out of six scientists recommending AGAINST it)...then, later that year, Hayes left his post as FDA Commissioner "amid charges of impropriety" (accepting bribes from FDA-regulated companies).  Additionally, the FDA has recognized NINETY-TWO different symptoms from consuming aspartame.

So...I would have to disagree that "Aspartame is perfectly safe."

 Nicely done.
