OMG... gained 2 pounds in the last 2 day
I have now reached a new all time high![]()
I'm feeling pretty crappy right now. I can't believe I've let myself get this way. Especially with all the health problems I've had over the years (breast cancer being only one of them), I should be so focused on living a healthy lifestyle. Instead I just tell myself I'm going to do better....and then I don't![]()
There's always at least two ways of looking at something. OK so your weight is quite high but the good news is that you've at least had the bottle to step on the scales .... some people never even get that far.
Rather than telling yourself you'll do better, have an actual plan. Be specific about what 'doing better' looks like. Doesn't have to be dramatic changes but if you can identify one or two areas for improvement and work on those, then you'd probably see a big difference.
BTW... if you gained 2lbs in 2 days it's most likely fluid retention rather than anything else. A healthy diet and plenty of water to drink will get rid of that no problem.
Good luck
Don't give up, I'm begging you. I've been there and it ain't pretty. I agree with the post above, have an actual plan. People wait for an "ah ha" moment, generally that's doesn't happen.
use this tool, calorie count, and track your food, see where you can "cut some corners" on your calorie intake. I truly believe that the reason I quit so many attempts and diets was because I thought the results would be fast and easily noticeable.
They aren't. Be realistic, do you have a job, family obligations, other responsibilites? Then chances are your weight loss will be more of a marathon than a sprint and that's okay. Second, stop jumping on the scale every few days...time of the day, what you've been eating, stress level, and million other things can contribute. Try weighing yourself once a week if you are really making an effort and write it down somewhere or keep referring to your log on here.
I got down on myself for hardly moving an ounce after 7 days but looked back at my log and felt good when I realized I had lost 10 pounds in the last month despite my "set back".
plan your meals, even if just in general, but mostly believe in yourself. You can do this, you will do this, you are trying to do this. Also, recognize that your weight may have emotional or mental scars attached to it, don't be afraid of confronting them and acknowledging them. The less scared you are or stressed you are the more prone to sticking with it and being successful.
i agree with both above posters!
for me, its about all the changes being sustainable, so while i have long term goals, i just work one little change at a time, get that stable, then make another little change, and so on. eventually, 25 lbs are gone. its taken seven months, but it took 30 years to get here, so i figure thats pretty good!
you can do this. just bite off one little change at a time. have your big picture plan, but also little steps to get there. that way, your always having small successes, and that helps keep and build the motivation.
dont give up! you are worth your efforts!
Two pounds is 7000 calories. Did you eat 7000 calories and burn none of it? No? You didn't gain two pounds. You didn't poop or you're retaining water or your scale's off or or or. Yesterday my scale said 162.6 first thing in the morning and this morning it said 164.8. I know I didn't gain two pounds and I'm not stressing it in the least.
Take a deep breath. It's okay. We're here and we do understand the feeling.
Cut the negative self-talk for starters. It isn't going to help you succeed to spend time hating yourself or beating yourself up or that you can't do it because all you do is say you'll do better and you don't.
Come up with a plan. "Today I'm going to write down everything I eat and see how it shakes down calorie and nutrition-wise. Tomorrow I'm going to make X change to what I had today. The day after that I'm going to do Y. I'm going to schedule this kind of exercise/movement on these days." Whatever works for you.
Be realistic with yourself. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. That may take some time, but you can do it.
thanks all, I appreciate the advice and support![]()
I'm just really frustrated with myself....this has been going on for way to long.
I started doing some light weight lifting, hoping that would help me to burn fat. Instead I gained 2 pounds, it upset me. I suppose it could be muscle? I just want all this weight GONE, ya know
and I want my eating addiction to disappear.
Hey, I guess if I'm wishing...a million dollars would be nice too![]()
I think I`ve seen someone say something about muscles retaining water at the very start of a new routine, hope they come along and clarify this for you.
But I doubt you`ve actually gained 2 pounds of muscle in 2 days just as much as I do that you`ve gained 2 pounds of fat in 2 days. The only type of gain that works like that, just 'poof' and it`s there, is water weight. Maybe you`re eating foods high in sodium, or high in fiber, or not hydrating yourself properly? Could be a ton of things really. Our weights naturally fluctuate by 5 pounds, I`ve heard.
Don`t stress too much about it, if you know you`re doing it right then the results you want will eventually appear. :) Good luck!
Thanks for this tip, Ily! I recently lost 30 pounds while looking for a job and attending school. Most of my time was spent at home, and then boom--a job fell in my lap that suddenly involved me moving around a lot. When I started working, I noticed my feet began to swell and I "gained" five pounds. I totally know it's fluid retention now, your post has confirmed my guess.
