OMG!! just got some good news! Update on Nikki!!
Some of you may remember that our daughter's friend nikki who fell off the bow of a boat and was hit by the propellers. The right side of her head and right eye were gouged out. She was in a coma for 2 weeks. She is only 24 yrs old.
She is not only walking, but walking independantly!! She does have some weakness in her right arm. She wrote her name the other day. In therapy they purposely wrote her name wrong. she crossed it out and wrote it correctly! They put out 3 objects for her to identify. They, would for instance place a spoon, toothbrush, and pencil out on the table and ask her to pick up the spoon. She did this all correctly. They gave her a simple puzzle to put together. Again she did it correctly. THe Doctors are completely amazed at her progress. Parts of her frontal and temporal lobe of her brain missing. They told the parents that if she came out of the coma, she would most likely be a vegetable. she walked out on the bike path at the Marin Hospital with her physical therapist for 3/4 of a mile, while her Mom pushed the wheel chair behind her.
Every test that they have given her she has passed with flying colors. Her mouth has a arch support and her mouth is wired shut, so she cant talk yet. The other day, her Mom was crying as she was getting ready to leave, Nikki reached out and stroked her arm. Soon the Doctors probably will take out the arch support for her mouth and unwire her mouth and then will see if she can talk.
She has already done more than the Doctors and her therapists thought possible with the extent of her injuries. If God can part the waters..........
Please continue to keep Nikki in your thoughts and prayers.
love, Karen
Edit. Nikki has surpassed all of the Doctor's expectations. she has been moved out of the hospital in Marin county and has moved to a rehab hospital in southern Calif. that specializes in head trauma. They have taken out the arch support in her mouth and she is slowly adjusting to eating. She still has a feeding tube, until she eats enough to support life. She is scheduled to have reconstructive eye surgery and also to the side of her head. Most of the scar would be under her hair line. She is doing well with talking... gets frustrated when she cant think of the right word that she wants. she is wanting to go back to college. Her doctor broke down in tears as he talked to her about her recovery. Never has he seen a patient with as much brain injury, recover as well. He thought that at best she would be a vegetable... and she want to go back to college!!!!! THat is still a long way off. she needs a lot more therapy. When God works with you, who can be against you?!! He gave her a hug and said that he would help her in her goal to go back to college and would be on the front row when she graduates!
Thank you for your continued prayers

That is the best news. It is so amazing how the body can heal itself. I have seen this first hand a few times. Prayers that are answered with a yes are always the best.

That really IS great news.
That is wonderful, please keep posting updates!!!!
Great news! I hope she continues to recover. :)
This is the first that I have read of this great miracle that God has done. It is so awesome that she is doing so well. I too, like many here, was crying as I read your story. I do hope we will hear more about her recovery. God has made an incredible machine in the human body and it is amazing what we can overcome if we try and if we pray. May God continue to be with you all.
There must be something big planned for her future. I guess we should all appreciate every day we have.
That is fantastic news - thanks for the update.
That is utterly wonderful news. *VVVVVBS*
